Use the tournament’s official live leaderboard for scores, then add player alerts or lock-screen updates for quick checks. If you want commentary without video, look for the event’s official radio or audio stream. Coverage and features can vary by tournament, location, and device.
Start with the official live golf leaderboard
A tournament or tour leaderboard is usually the simplest way to follow golf scores on your phone without watching video. The PGA TOUR app listing describes real-time leaderboards, player scorecards, and live stats. Apple Sports also offers live scores for official PGA TOUR and LPGA Tour events, including majors, with hole-by-hole results and individual scorecards, according to Apple’s February 4, 2026 announcement.

Look for the specific tournament in the app or on its official website. A general score page may show standings, while a player scorecard can give you a hole-by-hole view. What appears depends on the event and the service covering it.

If you care about a particular golfer, choose a service with a player-following feature rather than checking the overall standings repeatedly. The PGA TOUR app describes shot trails and play-by-play. The Open’s official app page describes ShotView, with shot-by-shot data and statistics; the PGA Championship’s 2026 spectator guide describes 3D shot tracking for the field. Those are event-specific features, not a standard feature set across all tournaments.

Enable notifications for the player or tour you want to follow. The PGA TOUR app listing describes push notifications for followed tours and players, plus lock-screen Live Activities. The Open’s official app FAQ says Championship notifications can include scoring, leaders, and radio or video schedules. Apple Sports also describes Live Activities on iPhone and Apple Watch.
Before the round, check the app’s notification settings and follow the correct player or event. If your phone offers a lock-screen activity, start or enable it from the relevant app; support depends on the service and device.

Listen to live golf radio or audio
For commentary without a screen, check the tournament’s official coverage page for radio or audio. The Open’s 2026 “How to follow” guide said The Open Radio would be available globally through its website, app, and R&A TV, as well as on talkSPORT 2 in the UK and SiriusXM across North America. The PGA Championship’s 2026 spectator guide said its app carried SiriusXM’s PGA Championship Radio without subscription or authentication. These are examples for those events, not a promise that every tournament offers free or broadly available audio.
Check region and device restrictions before relying on a stream
Video and app features can vary by country and platform. The Open’s official app FAQ says the live video streams shown in the app may differ by country according to available TV coverage, and recommends enabling Location Services so the app can show the correct streams. It also says Android users are directed to a website shortcut, while the iOS app is built for the App Store. Check the event’s own coverage page and the app listing for your device before the tournament starts.

Choose the right way to follow
| What you need | Best option | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| A quick score check | Official tournament or tour leaderboard | Whether it covers the event and provides live scoring. |
| One golfer’s progress | Player scorecard, shot trail, play-by-play, or shot tracking | Which player-level details the event and app provide. |
| Updates without opening the app | Player alerts or lock-screen Live Activities | Notification settings, device support, and whether the app supports the feature. |
| Commentary without video | Official tournament radio or audio stream | Availability for your event and location, plus any access requirements. |
If you only need to know who is leading, a leaderboard is enough. For a chosen player, combine a scorecard or shot feature with alerts. For a broadcast-like experience without watching, look for the event’s official radio and confirm it works in your region.
