To fix recurring YouTube Live disconnections on a podcast VPS in India, first match the interruption time to YouTube Live Control Room’s stream-health message and your encoder logs. Then check the outgoing stream settings, encoder health, and the VPS’s connection to YouTube’s ingest endpoint—in that order. India hosting alone does not establish the cause; a podcast may also have a separate connection from its encoder to the VPS.
Why does my YouTube live stream keep disconnecting?
A disconnection can originate in the encoder or its source, the VPS’s outbound network, or the connection settings used to reach YouTube. If your podcast encoder sends audio and video to the VPS before the VPS forwards the stream to YouTube, there are two network legs to check: encoder-to-VPS and VPS-to-YouTube. A healthy first leg does not prove the second is stable, or vice versa.

YouTube’s Live Control Room provides stream status and live analytics. Its health messages can point to a configuration issue, such as bitrate or format, but a message by itself does not prove that the VPS provider is at fault. Start with the timestamps and exact wording rather than changing providers based on the symptom alone. YouTube’s live-stream troubleshooting guidance recommends checking encoder health and, when it appears healthy, investigating outbound connectivity.

Capture evidence at the time of the interruption
- Write down the interruption time in UTC, including when the stream stopped and when it resumed.
- In YouTube Live Control Room, note the stream-health status and copy the exact error wording. Check the live preview and analytics around the same time.
- Compare those times with the encoder’s logs and preview. If local recording or archive is enabled, check whether the file contains gaps, frozen video, or missing audio.
- If the encoder sends a feed to the VPS, collect evidence from that incoming leg too. Note whether the encoder still reports a healthy connection to the VPS while YouTube reports a problem.
These timestamps let you distinguish a source or encoder failure from a likely outbound connectivity issue and give the hosting provider something specific to investigate.

Check bitrate, resolution, frame rate, and codec
Compare the encoder’s actual output settings with the settings selected for the YouTube stream. Choose a bitrate for the codec, resolution, and frame rate in use; copying a bitrate from a different format can overload a limited connection or unnecessarily reduce quality. YouTube’s settings page lists recommendations by format. YouTube recommends leaving 20% of upload capacity unused, and notes that shared networks can constrain an individual stream.

These are YouTube recommendations for the stated H.264 formats, not guarantees against disconnections or route instability. Check the relevant row for your stream, then verify that the VPS has sustained outbound capacity above the selected bitrate with YouTube’s recommended headroom. If YouTube reports insufficient incoming video or the available bandwidth cannot support the configured stream, reduce resolution or bitrate and test again.

Separate encoder problems from VPS network problems
If the encoder or source looks unhealthy
Inspect the encoder preview and logs, CPU load, and any local archive. Look for encoder errors, excessive CPU use, missing audio, frozen frames, or gaps in the recording. Resolve a source or encoding problem before investigating the VPS route; a network change will not fix an unhealthy media pipeline.

Measure outbound connectivity from the VPS during the periods when interruptions occur, and record the results with timestamps. Check whether the VPS can sustain the configured bitrate to the chosen YouTube ingest endpoint. If the podcast sends media to the VPS first, measure and inspect that leg separately. Share the Live Control Room error, relevant logs, and route or bandwidth measurements with the host. YouTube advises testing outbound connectivity and contacting the internet provider when connectivity problems are found; that guidance does not identify a particular VPS provider or India route as the cause.

Verify the YouTube ingest URL and protocol
Confirm that the encoder is using the intended YouTube ingestion endpoint and that its connection URL, application path, and stream-key configuration match. YouTube recommends RTMPS. Its documented RTMPS ingestion uses the rtmps protocol, a valid YouTube endpoint and application path, and port 443. RTMPS is RTMP carried through an SSL connection. - Check for a mistyped or outdated ingest URL and ensure the configured path belongs to the selected YouTube endpoint.
- Confirm the correct stream key is selected without exposing it in logs or support tickets.
- Check whether the VPS host or its firewall permits the required outbound connection on port 443.
YouTube’s protocol requirements do not establish how a particular provider configures its firewall. Ask the host to verify its own outbound rules if the endpoint is correct but the connection cannot be established.

Rehearse recovery before the podcast
Run a rehearsal using representative audio and video, monitor YouTube’s stream health, and confirm the preview before the scheduled broadcast. Start the encoder early enough to identify instability without pressure from a live audience. Check that any local archive is being written and is usable.

When does the VPS provider need to investigate?
Escalate when timestamps show a healthy encoder and source while YouTube reports connection trouble, or when outbound measurements show instability or inadequate sustained capacity. Send the provider the UTC interruption times, exact Live Control Room message, relevant encoder logs, and measurements from the VPS. Ask the host to investigate the outbound path to the selected ingest endpoint and any capacity or firewall issue matching those times.
Consider another region or provider only if evidence points to the hosting path. AWS documents India locations including Mumbai and Hyderabad Regions and Delhi and Kolkata Local Zones; Vultr has announced a Mumbai data-center location. These establish that location options exist, not that any one will provide a better route for your stream. AWS’s infrastructure locations and Vultr’s Mumbai announcement are not independent route benchmarks or comparative uptime data.
Compare alternatives using observed outbound stability to your chosen YouTube endpoint, sustained available capacity at your planned bitrate, current location availability, support’s ability to investigate timestamped incidents, and cost. A city name or provider location page cannot substitute for measurements from the route your stream will use.
