Reduce the video bitrate, resolution, or frame rate if the connection cannot sustain the stream with roughly 20% upload headroom. This diagnoses outgoing stream problems; it is different from viewers’ playback buffering.
1. Find out whether the encoder or connection is responsible
Before changing settings, run a test stream with movement and audio similar to your planned broadcast. In YouTube Live Control Room, watch stream health and note when frames drop. Check the encoder’s own status for network drops, rendering or encoding lag, and high CPU use. YouTube recommends testing under representative conditions and monitoring stream health.

If the local preview or a recording already looks poor, investigate the source and encoder first. If the encoder output is healthy but YouTube reports a connection problem, continue with the network checks below. YouTube also advises considering the encoder when viewers on different networks report errors; viewer reports alone do not prove an Airtel fault.
2. Check encoder settings and load
Update your encoder software and compare its codec, bitrate, frame rate, and keyframe interval with the settings selected for the YouTube stream and any Live Control Room warnings. YouTube recommends CBR, RTMP or RTMPS, a two-second keyframe interval (no more than four seconds), and a test that resembles the real broadcast.

For H.264, YouTube’s recommended live ingest bitrates are:

These are YouTube encoder recommendations, not a measurement of your Airtel upload capacity or a guarantee of stable streaming. If your connection cannot reliably sustain the selected bitrate, test a lower resolution or frame rate. Choose based on the visual detail or motion your broadcast needs and on measured, stable upload capacity. For other resolutions, frame rates, or ingest codecs, use YouTube’s live encoder settings and bitrate table.

3. Measure upload speed and leave headroom
Run a speed test that reports upload speed and ping. Download speed alone does not tell you how much capacity is available for sending a live stream. YouTube recommends keeping about 20% headroom above the total live bitrate. Count both primary and backup streams if you use one, and allow for other people or devices using the connection.

For example, a single H.264 stream at 720p30 uses YouTube’s recommended 5 Mbps video bitrate. Planning for approximately 20% room above that means the available upload should be around 6 Mbps or more, before accounting for other traffic. This is a planning guideline, not a guarantee; actual stability depends on the connection and route to YouTube.

Repeat the test at the times when dropped frames usually occur. Airtel recommends pausing background downloads and reducing connected devices during testing. A strong result at a quiet time does not establish that upload performance will remain stable during a busy stream.
4. Compare wired broadband with Wi-Fi
Connect the streaming computer directly to the Airtel router or ONT with an RJ45 Cat5 or Cat6 Ethernet cable. Repeat the upload test and, if possible, a test stream with other conditions unchanged. Airtel recommends a wired test because Wi-Fi can reduce measured speed and is susceptible to interference.

- Wired is stable, Wi-Fi is not: focus on wireless signal and interference. Move the router to an open, central location, reduce obstructions, and test again near the streaming computer.
- Both wired and Wi-Fi struggle: check encoder load and background traffic, then gather evidence for Airtel support if the wired connection remains poor.
Airtel describes 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi as longer-range but slower, and 5 GHz as faster but shorter-range. Choose based on signal quality at the streaming device and retest; switching bands or channels is not a guaranteed fix for packet loss. For Airtel Xstream Fiber, the Airtel Thanks app also offers Wi-Fi diagnosis or optimization. App labels can change.

If wired upload performance or outbound connectivity remains poor while the encoder’s local output is healthy, contact Airtel through the broadband support route that applies to your service and location. Airtel lists its app and broadband support channels; routes and labels may vary.

Share the dates and times affected, wired and Wi-Fi test results, upload speed and ping, YouTube stream-health messages, and whether other online services are affected. That information helps distinguish a home Wi-Fi issue from a broader connection problem.
