Most Luna Pro+ problems fall into one of three categories: insufficient power, a phone or bridge that cannot reach the lock, or a bolt that is physically binding. With the door open, test the thumbturn and mechanical key first. Then follow the matching path: charge the rechargeable lithium pack with a 5V2A charger, restore local Bluetooth communication in the Yale Access app, or correct the door and strike alignment. A critically depleted lock can be powered briefly through its USB-C emergency-power port for entry, but that port is not a battery charger. Five rejected FaceScan, fingerprint, CPU-card, or PIN attempts within three minutes cause a three-minute lockout; waiting out the timer is part of the recovery.
Identify the failure before changing anything
Do not repeatedly enter credentials or cycle the motor while the door is closed. Open the door if possible, because an open-door test separates an electronic problem from a door-and-bolt problem and prevents a jammed lock from trapping you outside.

- Test the thumbturn. Rotate it through a complete lock and unlock cycle. It should move smoothly without grinding, scraping, or stopping as the bolt reaches the frame.
- Test the mechanical key override. If the key is stiff or the bolt stops near the strike plate, treat the symptom as mechanical first.
- Try one known-good credential with the door open. Note whether the credential is rejected, accepted but followed by a stalled motor, or accepted and operating normally.
- Check the app from close range. Stand within about 10 feet (3 m), turn Bluetooth on, and see whether local control works even if the app reports the lock as offline.

Fix Luna Pro+ battery drain and charging problems
Know the Pro+ battery specifications
Yale identifies the Luna Pro+ as being powered by a rechargeable lithium battery. The Yale Home Luna Pro/Pro+ manual specifies approximately 6–8 hours to charge with a 5V2A charger and estimates 6–8 months from a full charge, depending on actual use. Those are operating estimates, not a guarantee: frequent motor cycles, a door that makes the bolt stall, and repeated wireless reconnection attempts can shorten the interval.

Charge the installed pack correctly
- Keep the door open and remove the battery cover according to the regional Luna Pro+ instructions.
- Inspect the battery connector and seating. A connector that is not fully seated can look like a dead battery or cause intermittent resets.
- Charge the installed pack through the battery’s USB-C charging port, or install a fully charged compatible lithium pack, following the exact regional manual for your hardware revision.
- Use a 5V2A charger and allow approximately 6–8 hours for a complete charge. Do not infer a failed pack merely because the lock does not recover immediately after a brief charge.
- Reinstall the cover, then test the thumbturn, key override, one credential, and app control with the door still open.
The AA-battery instructions associated with Luna Pro do not apply to the Pro+ lithium pack. Using the wrong battery type can leave the lock without power and may damage the product; obtain the compatible pack specified for your regional model instead.

Use emergency USB-C power only for entry
When the main battery is critically depleted, the manual says an emergency supply can be provided through the emergency-power port with a Type-C USB cable for emergency access. It explicitly distinguishes this port from normal charging. Connect temporary power, unlock using an authorized method, and then charge or replace the internal lithium pack. Leaving the lock dependent on the emergency port is not a battery-repair strategy.
Keep a mechanical key override outside the property, as the manual recommends. Emergency power and the key are access fallbacks; neither corrects a pack that is repeatedly losing charge.
Find the cause of rapid drain after a full charge
If the battery falls quickly after a correct full charge, look for work the motor is being forced to repeat. A bolt that hits the strike plate, a swollen or shifted door, or a tight seal can make every lock cycle consume more power. Repeated connectivity retries can also increase consumption when a bridge or access module is unavailable. With the door open, run several cycles and compare them with the door closed. If operation is smooth open but stalls or slows closed, repair alignment before blaming the battery.

Yale support guidance says that a low-battery alert still present 24 hours after a battery replacement, while the lock and app are being used normally, should be referred to regional support. Record when the pack was charged or replaced, whether the alert clears, and whether the motor binds; those details help support distinguish a battery, contact, or lock fault.

A published estimate of about 50 operations after a low-battery reminder appears in the 2022 Luna Pro documentation. Treat that figure as a Luna Pro documentation estimate, not a guaranteed reserve for every Luna Pro+ installation; usage and regional hardware can differ.
Recover a Luna Pro+ that appears offline
Start with local Bluetooth control
“Offline” can describe the phone’s connection to the lock, the lock’s connection to a bridge, or stale app status. First determine whether the lock responds locally.
- Stand within approximately 10 feet (3 m) of the lock.
- Confirm Bluetooth is enabled on the phone and that the Yale Access app is current.
- Force-quit the Yale Access app, reopen it, and retry while remaining close to the lock.
- Toggle Bluetooth off, wait a moment, turn it on again, and retry.
- Test one local operation. If Bluetooth works nearby but remote commands or activity updates do not, the lock itself may be healthy.
Do not begin with a factory reset or repeated credential changes. Those actions can create new access problems while leaving a simple Bluetooth session or bridge outage untouched.

If local Bluetooth remains unresponsive, remove the lock’s battery or other power source, wait briefly, reinstall it, and allow the lock to boot fully. Keep the door open and an authorized credential available. Then repeat the close-range Bluetooth test. A power cycle can clear a stalled session, but it does not repair a physically binding bolt.

Recalibrate from Device Settings
Yale’s troubleshooting sequence calls for recalibration when calibration is suspected. In the Yale Access app, open the lock, go to Device Settings, and select the recalibration control shown for your installation. Follow the prompts with the door open unless the app specifically instructs otherwise. Recalibration is appropriate after confirming that the thumbturn and key move smoothly; it cannot compensate for a strike plate that is forcing the bolt sideways.
Check a Wi-Fi bridge or access module
If the lock works through Bluetooth at the door but appears offline for remote control, inspect any installed Wi-Fi bridge or access module. Confirm that the module has power and an internet connection, and check whether other devices on the same network are reachable. A bridge outage can prevent remote commands and activity updates while leaving local Bluetooth operation normal. Restore the module’s network connection before changing lock credentials.
Fix failed unlocks and the three-minute lockout
Wait out the security timeout
The Luna manual states that five accumulated failures for FaceScan, fingerprint, CPU card, or PIN within three minutes trigger a three-minute lockout. During that period, stop entering credentials; additional attempts do not accelerate recovery. Wait the full three minutes, then try one known-good credential with the door open.

When the credential is accepted but the bolt does not move
An accepted credential proves that the authentication step completed; it does not prove that the door can physically release the bolt. With the door open, operate the lock again. If it works open but not when the door is shut, inspect the gap around the door, the strike opening, and the deadbolt path. Door deformation or a mispositioned striker plate can prevent retraction or extension. Adjust the striker plate or correct the door condition before repeated unlock attempts drain the battery or overwork the motor.
Use the mechanical override as a planned fallback
Keep the mechanical key outside the property in a secure, accessible location. Use it when the battery is depleted, the app cannot connect, or electronic credentials are temporarily locked out. If the key itself will not turn smoothly with the door open, stop forcing it and treat the condition as a mechanical alignment or hardware problem.

The Luna guide instructs that, when a system error prevents operation, a tool can be used to press the system restart button for a reboot. Perform this procedure with the door open, the key available, and the battery correctly seated.

- Locate the system restart button identified in your regional guide.
- Press it with a suitable tool as directed by the guide; do not insert tools into unrelated openings.
- Wait for the lock to complete its boot sequence.
- Test, in order, the app over local Bluetooth, keypad or biometric access, the thumbturn, and the mechanical key.
If the restart clears the error but the same failure returns, record which access method fails and whether the bolt moves freely. That pattern determines whether the next step is alignment work, battery service, network troubleshooting, or support.

Correct door, deadbolt, and striker alignment
Physical resistance is one of the most common reasons an otherwise functional smart lock appears to have a battery or connectivity fault. Look for these signs:
- The thumbturn becomes tight only when the door is fully closed.
- The deadbolt scrapes the strike opening or stops near the frame.
- The key turns more easily while pushing or pulling the door.
- The motor stalls, reverses, or makes repeated attempts before reporting an error.
- The door has swollen, sagged, shifted on its hinges, or no longer meets the frame evenly.
Correct the door or striker plate so the deadbolt enters the opening without side pressure. Do not file or enlarge the opening blindly; preserve the required security engagement and follow the installation instructions for the lock and door construction.
The installation acceptance test calls for checking deadbolt operation, thumbturn movement, key override, credentials, and networking modules. Run that complete test after an alignment adjustment or battery replacement, with the door open first and then closed. A lock that passes electronic tests only while open is not ready for normal use.
Choose the recovery path by symptom and urgency

Prevent the problem from returning
- Charge before exhaustion. Plan around the manual’s approximately 6–8-hour charge time instead of waiting for emergency power.
- Track actual runtime. The 6–8-month estimate varies with use; note charge dates so a sudden change is visible.
- Keep the bolt path free. Seasonal door movement can turn a previously smooth installation into a motor-stalling installation.
- Maintain two access methods. Keep the mechanical key available and ensure at least one authorized electronic credential is current.
- Separate local and remote tests. Test Bluetooth at the door before diagnosing a bridge or internet problem.
- Retest after every intervention. A battery change, restart, recalibration, or strike adjustment should be followed by checks of the app, credentials, thumbturn, key, and networking module.
When to contact Yale support
Contact regional Yale support after completing the relevant prescribed steps when a low-battery alert remains 24 hours after a correct replacement, when the lock repeatedly drains a known-good pack, when local Bluetooth remains unavailable after app and power recovery, or when the bolt still binds after the door and striker are correctly aligned. Provide the lock’s regional model information, battery charge or replacement time, exact error behavior, whether the door was open during testing, and which access methods still work. Those observations are more useful than repeated failed unlock attempts and help identify whether the fault is power, mechanics, calibration, or connectivity.
