A missing Xbox Game Pass game usually has one of three causes: the signed-in account no longer has the membership or catalog entitlement, the title is unavailable on that device, or the Windows Xbox app is failing to display or recognize an installation. Check those possibilities in that order before reinstalling anything.
On Windows PC, compare the Xbox app with Microsoft Store, then use the supported Repair, Reset, and Store-library reinstall controls. On an Xbox console, verify membership and catalog availability, then use the current Xbox Support instructions for your console; do not apply Windows menu paths to the console.

First, identify what “disappeared” means
Game Pass access is a subscription benefit, not a permanent purchase. Installing a catalog game does not convert it into a title you own forever. A game can therefore vanish because access ended, because the catalog changed, or because an app stopped showing an installation that is still on the device.

1. Confirm the Microsoft account and Game Pass membership
Start with entitlement, not files. The Xbox app and Microsoft Store can be signed into different Microsoft accounts, especially on a shared Windows PC. A membership attached to one account does not automatically grant the other account access.

- Open the Xbox app and note the account currently signed in.
- Open Microsoft Store and check the account shown there as well.
- Compare both accounts with the one that owns the relevant Game Pass membership.
- Confirm that the membership is active and that the missing title is still included in the current Game Pass catalog.
Do not assume that a previously installed game remains available after a catalog change. If the title left the catalog, or if the membership ended, the installation history is not proof of continuing access. You may still see remnants of the game on the drive, but the subscription entitlement is what determines whether it can be launched through Game Pass.
If multiple accounts are present, record which account has the membership before changing sign-in state. Switching accounts without checking can make the situation harder to diagnose, because a correct installation may appear unavailable simply because the app is evaluating the wrong entitlement.
2. Check the title in Microsoft Store on Windows
Microsoft’s Store guidance recommends searching for the product and inspecting the Store library. This cross-check separates an Xbox app display problem from a genuine availability problem.
- Open Microsoft Store on the Windows PC where you expect to use the game.
- Search for the exact title, taking care with similarly named editions, bundles, and add-ons.
- Open the title’s Store page and check whether it is offered for the signed-in account and intended device.
- Open the Store library and look for the title or its install record.
Availability can differ across devices. A game that is listed for console, cloud, or another PC configuration may not be installable on the Windows device you are checking. Use the device designation shown by the Store rather than assuming that every Game Pass title is available in every mode.

If Microsoft Store cannot find the title
Recheck the spelling and edition, then return to the account and catalog checks. If the title is not in the current catalog or is not offered for the target device, repairing the Xbox app will not restore subscription access. The correct outcome in that case is to wait for a catalog change, use an edition you own, or use a supported device and entitlement shown for the title.
If Microsoft Store finds the title
A Store result or library entry means Windows can still identify the product for that account and device. If the Xbox app does not show it, continue with the PC-app troubleshooting steps instead of deleting game folders.
3. Understand the Xbox PC app’s aggregated library
Xbox announced an aggregated library for its PC app that can bring Xbox, Game Pass, Battle.net, and other supported PC storefront titles into one view. The feature is designed to let players launch games from several sources in a single library.

A title’s absence from one part of the interface does not by itself prove that its files were deleted. Conversely, seeing a title in the aggregated view does not establish that Game Pass currently covers it; the listing may point to another storefront or an owned copy.

Use the library as a recognition check
- Look through the Xbox PC app’s full library rather than only the Game Pass category.
- Open the game’s details and note whether the app identifies Game Pass, an owned license, or another storefront as the source.
- Compare that source with the account and catalog result from the first two steps.
If the title appears in the aggregated library but the install button or launch action fails, treat that as an app or service-recognition issue. If it is absent from the aggregated library but present in Microsoft Store, continue with repair and reset rather than assuming the game was erased.
4. Repair the Xbox app before resetting it
Microsoft’s Windows app troubleshooting guidance includes Repair and Reset controls. Repair is the less disruptive first action because it attempts to correct the app without removing its stored state. Windows labels and placement can vary by release, but the controls are available from the Xbox app’s installed-app settings.
- Open Windows Settings and go to the list of installed apps.
- Select the Xbox app and open its advanced or app-options page.
- Choose Repair and wait for Windows to finish.
- Reopen the Xbox app, sign in with the account verified earlier, and check the library and title page again.
Repair does not change catalog eligibility. It is intended for a broken app registration or local app state. If the title is not currently covered by the account, a successful repair will leave the entitlement result unchanged.

5. Use Reset only when Repair does not help
Reset is the next supported app action when Repair has not restored the listing or launch behavior. It clears the app’s stored data and can require you to sign in again. Because that local state is removed, use Reset after confirming the account and catalog rather than as the first response.

- Return to the Xbox app’s installed-app options in Windows Settings.
- Select Reset and acknowledge the warning shown by Windows.
- Launch the Xbox app again and sign in to the membership account.
- Check the full library and retry the title.
If Reset fixes the listing, the cause was likely local app state rather than a catalog removal. If it does not, compare the Store result again and continue to the Gaming Services check below.

A Microsoft Q&A response about subscription recognition suggests repairing or resetting the Xbox app and checking Gaming Services. This is community guidance, not a guaranteed Microsoft fix, so use it as a diagnostic branch rather than a promise of restoration.
First, verify that the Xbox app and Microsoft Store still use the membership account. Then inspect Windows’ installed-app settings for Gaming Services and use the same supported Repair or Reset controls if Windows offers them. Reopen the Xbox app after each change and test the title before making another change.

If the Store does not offer the title for the intended device, return to the catalog and device-availability decision instead of repeatedly resetting services.
7. Reinstall through Microsoft Store when the library record is damaged
Microsoft’s Store troubleshooting guidance includes reinstalling an app through the Store library. Use that supported route when the title is visible in the Store but the Xbox app’s installation record is broken.
- Open Microsoft Store and go to your library.
- Select the game’s Store entry.
- Use the available install or reinstall action shown for the verified account and device.
- After installation, open the Xbox app and allow it to refresh the library.
The Store library is preferable to deleting protected game folders or attempting to reconstruct permissions manually. A reinstall can take significant time and storage, so perform it only after the account, catalog, and Store-availability checks identify the title as valid for that PC.
8. Avoid destructive “fixes” that are not supported here
Do not delete protected Windows gaming folders merely because a library entry is missing. The evidence available for this problem supports account checks, Store verification, app Repair or Reset, Gaming Services checks, and Store-library reinstall. It does not support unverified PowerShell commands, registry edits, permission changes, or manual removal of protected directories as a universal solution.
- Do not treat an old installation folder as proof that Game Pass access is still active.
- Do not assume that an aggregated-library entry identifies the entitlement source.
- Do not switch accounts repeatedly without recording which account owns the membership.
- Do not use Windows PC paths to troubleshoot an Xbox console.
9. A concise Windows decision path
Use this order so each result narrows the cause:
- Account: Xbox app and Microsoft Store show the account with the active membership.
- Catalog: The title is currently included for that membership.
- Device: Microsoft Store offers the title for the Windows PC you are using.
- Store library: The title appears in the Store library or on its Store page.
- Xbox library: Check the aggregated library and identify the listed storefront or entitlement.
- Repair: Repair the Xbox app, reopen it, and test again.
- Reset: Reset the Xbox app if Repair fails, then sign in again.
- Gaming Services: Apply the supported Windows app controls as a community-guided diagnostic.
- Reinstall: Reinstall from Microsoft Store only when the title remains valid for the account and device.
Stop at the first step that explains the symptom. For example, a title missing from the current catalog is an access issue, while a title present in Store but absent from Xbox is an app-recognition issue. Treating both as file corruption leads to unnecessary reinstalls.
10. Xbox console owners need a separate path
The Windows checks above do not translate directly to Xbox consoles. The available support material does not establish a reliable, current console menu sequence for a missing Game Pass library entry, and Xbox menu labels can change with system updates.
On a console, verify the membership account and current catalog availability first. Then consult the current Xbox Support instructions for your console and the specific library or installation symptom. Use the console-specific steps shown there rather than selecting Windows Settings controls that do not exist on the console.
If support confirms that the account and catalog are valid but the console still omits the title, provide the exact console model, account state, title edition, and whether the game appears in the Store. Those details distinguish an entitlement problem from a console library or installation problem without risking unsupported resets.
