Windows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallOutdated Drivers Are Slowing You Down
One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchStart by identifying whether Wildermyth will not launch, crashes during play, stops responding, or leaves the display black—then check OpenGL support, GPU selection, and graphics drivers. For a Steam installation, validate the game files before considering a reinstall, and back up the players folder first. These are developer-documented troubleshooting steps, not guaranteed fixes.
First, identify the failure
The right checks depend on what happens. Note whether Wildermyth never opens, appears to run without showing a window, crashes to desktop during play, stops responding while Windows remains usable, or leaves the display black while audio continues. Also record when it happens: at startup, while loading a save, or at a repeatable point in a session. These symptoms help describe the problem, but do not by themselves establish its cause.

Check Windows and graphics compatibility
Steam lists these minimum requirements for Wildermyth: a 64-bit processor and operating system, Windows 7 or later, an i3 or better, 3 GB of RAM, OpenGL 3.2, and 2 GB of available storage. Steam separately notes that its client supports Windows 10 and later starting January 1, 2024; that client note is distinct from the game’s listed minimum operating system. See the Wildermyth Steam listing.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors- Check whether your graphics hardware supports OpenGL 3.2.
- If your PC has more than one graphics adapter, make sure the game is using the dedicated GPU.
- Update the graphics driver from the relevant hardware maker.
- When contacting support, note your Windows version, GPU model, and driver version.
Worldwalker Games lists OpenGL capability, dedicated-GPU selection, and graphics-driver updates among its first checks in its technical support post. Replacing a graphics card is not a routine crash fix; it is relevant only if the current hardware cannot meet the OpenGL requirement.

If Wildermyth will not launch
Try the game executable
If launching through Steam does not open the game, try running the Windows executable directly from Wildermyth’s installation folder. The developer says this has helped some players, but it is not a guaranteed workaround.
Collect launch diagnostics
If the game produces no logs, a developer reply suggests adding --console to Wildermyth’s Steam launch options to obtain more diagnostic detail. This is a troubleshooting suggestion, not a confirmed fix. The related developer replies about a game that does not launch also recommend validating Steam files before reinstalling.
Validate files before reinstalling
In Steam, open Wildermyth’s Properties, choose Installed Files, then select Verify integrity of game files. If you still decide to fully uninstall and reinstall, first make a separate backup of the players folder so you can protect local player data. The backup advice comes from the developer’s replies in the same support thread.

If the game crashes or freezes after it opens
After a crash, relaunch Wildermyth and press F11 to open its Feedback tool. Select the option to send all logs, then describe what you were doing immediately before the failure. The developer’s pinned technical support post says the tool sends a screenshot, logs, and your message to the team. Include an email address if you want a reply.
If you cannot open the Feedback tool, look for a /logs directory in the game’s installation folder. A useful report includes the game version shown in the logs, Windows version, GPU and driver version, whether the PC has multiple GPUs, and the exact action or loading point where the crash or freeze occurs. Do not assume that a freeze and a crash have the same cause.
If the display goes black
A black screen is different from the game simply becoming unresponsive, particularly if audio continues. In a Windows 11 display-related support thread, the developer suggested checking computer power settings and graphics drivers, considering whether the installation uses an unusual setup such as an external drive, and trying windowed mode or disabling game mode. The developer described some suggestions as guesses; the thread documents a particular case, not a general Windows 11 defect or a proven universal fix. See the display-issue discussion.
