Connect the Bar to the television’s HDMI port marked ARC or eARC, select it as the TV’s audio output, enable HDMI-CEC, and set digital audio to Pass Through (or Auto when Pass Through is unavailable). Then use the TV’s A/V sync control to correct lip-sync. Optical is a fallback when the TV has no ARC/eARC, but it has fewer documented formats and does not pass TV-remote volume commands to the Bar.
For Apple TV Dolby Atmos, set Settings > Video and Audio > Audio Format > Auto, turn Dolby Atmos on, and make sure the television sends audio to the WiiM Bar. The Bar’s display should identify Dolby Atmos when that format is actually received.

Start with the correct connection
HDMI sockets on a television are not interchangeable for soundbar use. The WiiM Bar must be connected to the TV’s dedicated HDMI ARC/eARC socket. A regular HDMI input can carry video into the television, but it does not send the television’s own audio back to the Bar.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Plug one end of the HDMI cable into the WiiM Bar port labeled HDMI eARC.
- Plug the other end into the television socket labeled ARC or eARC. The label may be printed beside the socket or shown in the TV’s connection guide.
- On the television, open audio-output settings and choose the WiiM Bar, HDMI ARC device, or equivalent external-speaker option.
- On the Bar, select the HDMI eARC source.
If the TV has several HDMI sockets but none is marked ARC or eARC, do not expect another socket to provide TV-audio return. Use optical as the fallback described below.

What to identify before changing settings
Write down the TV model, the exact HDMI socket in use, the Bar’s current source, and whether the problem affects every source or only one app. Have the TV remote and the WiiM Home app available. This prevents a common troubleshooting mistake: changing several settings at once and losing track of which change helped.
Also check whether the television calls its external-speaker option “Receiver,” “Audio System,” “HDMI ARC,” or “WiiM Bar.” The wording can vary even when the function is the same. The important points are that the TV is not still set to its internal speakers and that the Bar is listening on HDMI eARC.
Set the television’s audio and control options
After the cable is in the ARC/eARC sockets, three TV settings determine whether audio reaches the Bar: HDMI-CEC, the audio-output device, and the digital-audio format.
Recommended Free Tools
Enable HDMI-CEC
HDMI-CEC lets the television and Bar exchange power, input, and volume commands. Manufacturers use different names for the same feature:
| TV brand | CEC label documented by WiiM |
|---|---|
| Samsung | AnyNet+ |
| LG | Simplink |
| Sony | BRAVIA Sync |
Turn the named CEC feature on, then reselect the WiiM Bar as the TV’s audio output. If CEC was already enabled, switch it off, restart both devices, and enable it again; this can force a fresh HDMI handshake without changing any hardware.
Choose Auto or Pass Through for digital audio
Set the TV’s digital-audio output to Pass Through when that choice is available. WiiM recommends Pass Through over Auto because it sends the source format onward instead of having the television decode or convert it. If Pass Through is not offered, choose Auto. Avoid forcing a format that the source or connection cannot carry.
Power-cycle the HDMI chain
When settings look correct but the Bar remains silent, turn off the TV and Bar, unplug both for about one minute, reconnect the HDMI cable firmly, and power the TV back on before the Bar. Reopening the connection in this order gives ARC/eARC and CEC a chance to negotiate again. This is a reset of the connection, not a factory reset of either product.

HDMI ARC/eARC versus optical
The choice is primarily about the television’s available port, supported formats, and how you control volume. HDMI ARC/eARC is the preferred route when available because it is the documented Bar path for Dolby Atmos and the broadest format list. Optical is useful when the TV has no ARC/eARC socket, but it has two important limitations: WiiM’s optical list does not include Atmos, and the TV remote cannot adjust the Bar’s volume over optical.
| Question | HDMI ARC/eARC | Optical |
|---|---|---|
| Where does it connect? | TV socket marked ARC/eARC to the Bar’s HDMI eARC port | TV optical output to the Bar’s optical input |
| Atmos listed by WiiM? | Yes, on the HDMI eARC format list | No |
| TV remote volume? | Available through HDMI-CEC when enabled | Not available with the TV remote |
| Other listed formats | PCM, Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus, DTS, DTS-HD, and DTS:X | PCM, Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus, and DTS |
Do not purchase an optical cable as a first response to an HDMI problem if the TV already has ARC/eARC. Confirm the port and settings first. Optical is a connection fallback, not a way to add Atmos to a television that cannot send it through the available path.
Fix WiiM Bar audio that is ahead of or behind the picture
Use the television’s A/V-sync control rather than guessing with app-specific delays. Start playback with clear dialogue, open the TV’s sound or advanced-audio menu, and adjust the delay until mouth movement and speech coincide. Make small changes and recheck a scene with both speech and visible lip movement.
| TV manufacturer | Menu name documented by WiiM |
|---|---|
| Sony | A/V sync |
| LG (newer models) | Match Screen and Sound; HDMI (ARC) Device Delay |
| LG (older models) | AV Sync Adjustment |
| Samsung | Digital Output Audio Delay |
Exact wording and menu location vary by model and software version, so treat these names as search terms inside the TV settings rather than a promise that every set uses the same screen. If the delay changes when you switch from an internal TV app to a set-top box or game console, set the value for the source that is actually out of sync.
Surround-speaker systems need a stable network first
When the Bar is grouped with WiiM surround speakers, network timing can add instability that looks like lip-sync error. Keep the Bar and surround speakers on the same stable home network. WiiM suggests Ethernet for maximum stability where feasible. Improve the network connection before making fine A/V-sync adjustments; otherwise a temporary packet delay can make you chase a setting that is not the root cause.
When HDMI ARC/eARC produces no sound
Work through these checks in order. Stop when audio returns so you do not introduce an unnecessary change.
- Check both ends of the cable. Remove and reseat the plugs. Confirm the Bar end is in its HDMI eARC socket and the TV end is in the port marked ARC/eARC.
- Verify the TV output. Choose the WiiM Bar or HDMI ARC device as the active audio output, not the TV speakers or Bluetooth headphones.
- Enable CEC and ARC/eARC. Some televisions expose separate toggles for HDMI-CEC and ARC/eARC; both must be enabled.
- Set digital audio correctly. Use Pass Through, or Auto if Pass Through is unavailable.
- Select the Bar source. The Bar itself must be on HDMI eARC rather than another input.
- Restart the HDMI chain. Power-cycle both devices, then test a built-in TV app and a broadcast or connected source.
- Try another high-speed HDMI cable only if the checks fail. WiiM’s guidance treats a cable swap as a conditional diagnostic test, not a guaranteed cure. Test the existing cable and ports first.
- Check firmware. Open WiiM Home and note the installed version. WiiM’s September 11, 2026 release entry identifies firmware 5.2.829051 as latest in that entry, with a staged rollout, and records a fix for a no-sound issue with certain TVs. The note does not establish that every silent setup has that fault, and a staged rollout means your device may not receive the version immediately.
If sound works through another source but not a particular TV app, compare that app’s audio setting and the TV’s output mode rather than replacing the Bar. If no TV source produces sound after the port, settings, restart, cable test, and firmware checks, record the TV model, Bar firmware, connection type, and exact output settings before contacting support.

Use the symptom to narrow the fault
- Absolutely no sound: start with the ARC/eARC port, TV output selection, CEC, digital-audio mode, and Bar source. These checks cost nothing and can identify a wrong connection quickly.
- Sound only after changing inputs: reselect HDMI eARC on the Bar and verify the TV still lists the WiiM Bar as its external output.
- Sound from optical but not HDMI: the Bar is producing audio, so concentrate on HDMI port selection, CEC/ARC negotiation, TV output mode, and the HDMI cable.
- Sound from one TV app but not another: compare the app’s available soundtrack and the TV’s handling of that source before changing hardware.
- Intermittent sound in a surround group: stabilize the shared network before repeatedly changing the delay value.
Using optical when the TV has no ARC/eARC
Optical is WiiM’s fallback connection when the television lacks ARC/eARC. Connect the TV’s optical output to the Bar’s optical input, select optical on the Bar, and choose the corresponding external-audio output in the TV menu.
| Connection | Formats listed by WiiM | TV-remote volume |
|---|---|---|
| HDMI ARC/eARC | PCM, Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby Atmos, DTS, DTS-HD, DTS:X | Supported through HDMI-CEC when enabled |
| Optical | PCM, Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus, DTS | Not available with the TV remote |
WiiM’s optical format list does not include Dolby Atmos. Optical therefore cannot be treated as an Atmos-equivalent substitute for eARC. It also does not allow the television remote to adjust the Bar’s volume, so use the Bar remote or WiiM controls for level changes.
After switching to optical, make sure the Bar is no longer set to HDMI eARC. The TV must also be set to its optical or external digital output. If the TV remains on internal speakers, a correctly connected optical cable will still appear to be silent.
Why Dolby Atmos is not appearing
Atmos requires the source, TV settings, and connection to preserve an Atmos-capable signal. The Bar’s display identifies Dolby Atmos when that format is received; a missing Atmos indicator means the incoming signal is another format or has been converted before reaching the Bar.
Apple TV setup
- On Apple TV, open Settings > Video and Audio > Audio Format.
- Set Audio Format to Auto.
- Turn Dolby Atmos on.
- On the television, select the WiiM Bar as the audio output.
- Enable HDMI-CEC (AnyNet+, Simplink, BRAVIA Sync, or the TV’s equivalent).
- Set the TV’s digital-audio output to Pass Through, or Auto if Pass Through is unavailable.
- Confirm the Apple TV is connected through an Atmos-capable HDMI path. The documented Bar format table identifies Atmos on HDMI eARC, not optical.
Play a title that actually carries an Atmos soundtrack and check the Bar’s screen. A title, app, account tier, or playback mode that supplies only stereo or Dolby Digital cannot produce an Atmos indication, even when every device setting is correct.
Other source devices
For a game console, disc player, or streaming box, leave the device’s audio output on its bitstream, passthrough, or automatic mode when those options are available, then let the TV pass the signal through. The exact labels differ by device, and WiiM’s published table is a format list rather than a complete compatibility matrix for every TV, app, and source. Do not promise Atmos for a path that converts audio to PCM or routes through optical.
Atmos troubleshooting questions
First ask where the source is connected. A source connected to the TV depends on the TV’s audio-return settings; a source routed through optical cannot deliver Atmos according to WiiM’s listed formats. Next ask what the source is actually sending. “Atmos on” in a device menu does not turn a stereo or Dolby Digital title into Atmos. Finally, check the Bar’s display while the content is playing. The display is the useful confirmation that an Atmos signal reached the Bar, rather than merely showing that the source has an Atmos option.

Understanding the HDMI format list
WiiM lists these formats for the Bar’s HDMI eARC path: PCM, Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby Atmos, DTS, DTS-HD, and DTS:X. The optical list is shorter: PCM, Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus, and DTS. The difference explains why eARC is the preferred connection for high-format TV audio and why an optical setup may sound different even when the source is unchanged.
ARC and eARC are TV-audio return paths, not identical guarantees for every source. The television, its software, the app, and the content all influence what arrives at the Bar. If the TV’s own information screen reports a converted format, troubleshoot that conversion before changing the Bar.

Firmware and staged updates
Check firmware in the WiiM Home app rather than relying on a web article’s version number. The WiiM Bar Firmware Release Notes entry dated September 11, 2026 lists version 5.2.829051 as the latest version in that entry, says distribution is staged, and includes the change: “Fixed a no-sound issue with certain TVs.” Because rollouts and current releases can change, use the version shown for your device as the authoritative value.
- Open WiiM Home while the Bar is powered and connected to the network.
- Open the device page and its firmware or device-information section.
- Record the installed version before updating.
- If an update is offered, keep the Bar powered and on a stable network until installation completes.
- After the update, repeat the HDMI source selection and test TV audio.
A firmware update can address a known compatibility defect, but it cannot correct a cable plugged into a non-ARC socket or a TV still set to internal speakers.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What to document before contacting support
Support can work more efficiently when the setup is described precisely. Record the TV model and software version if shown, whether the port is ARC or eARC, the Bar’s firmware version, the selected Bar source, the TV audio-output label, the CEC name and status, and whether digital audio is set to Pass Through or Auto. Note whether optical works, whether the fault affects every app, and whether the problem is silence, delay, dropouts, or a missing Atmos indicator.
This record also prevents unnecessary purchases. A replacement high-speed HDMI cable is a reasonable conditional test, but no cable can make a non-ARC TV port return audio or make an optical connection carry a format WiiM does not list for optical.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesQuick diagnosis by symptom
- No sound at all: verify the ARC/eARC port, TV output selection, CEC, Pass Through/Auto, Bar HDMI eARC source, cable seating, and firmware.
- Sound from optical but not HDMI: the speakers are operating; focus on ARC/eARC port selection, CEC negotiation, TV output mode, and the HDMI cable.
- Dialogue is consistently late or early: adjust the TV’s A/V sync control and use the manufacturer-specific menu name listed above.
- Atmos never appears: use HDMI eARC, set the source to automatic audio with Atmos enabled where applicable, set the TV to Pass Through/Auto, and confirm the content carries Atmos.
- Audio drops out in a surround setup: stabilize the shared network, use Ethernet where practical, then retune A/V sync.
- The TV remote changes nothing: check CEC for HDMI. Optical does not support TV-remote volume adjustment.
When replacing hardware is justified
Do not buy a new cable or soundbar until the connection path has been isolated. A replacement high-speed HDMI cable is a reasonable test only after confirming the correct ports and settings. If the TV lacks ARC/eARC, optical may be the only documented fallback, with the format and remote-control limits above. If the television has ARC/eARC and remains silent after the complete sequence, preserve the model and firmware details for support; those details are more useful than simply reporting “no sound.”

Frequently Asked Questions
Which HDMI port should connect to the WiiM Bar?
Use the television’s port marked ARC or eARC and connect it to the Bar’s HDMI eARC port. A normal HDMI input does not return the TV’s audio to the Bar.
Why does my WiiM Bar have no sound over HDMI ARC?
Confirm the cable is seated in both ARC/eARC ports, select the WiiM Bar as the TV’s audio output, enable HDMI-CEC and ARC/eARC, set digital audio to Pass Through or Auto, and select HDMI eARC on the Bar. Then power-cycle the devices, try another high-speed HDMI cable as a diagnostic, and check WiiM Home for firmware updates.
How do I fix WiiM Bar lip-sync delay?
Adjust the television’s A/V sync control while playing dialogue. Sony calls it A/V sync; LG uses Match Screen and Sound, HDMI (ARC) Device Delay, or AV Sync Adjustment; Samsung uses Digital Output Audio Delay. Menu names vary by model.
Why is Dolby Atmos not showing on the WiiM Bar?
Use HDMI eARC rather than optical, set the TV to the WiiM Bar with CEC enabled and digital audio on Pass Through or Auto, and verify that the source and title actually provide Atmos. On Apple TV, use Audio Format Auto and turn Dolby Atmos on. The Bar’s display identifies Atmos when it receives that format.
Can optical deliver Dolby Atmos to the WiiM Bar?
WiiM’s optical format list includes PCM, Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus, and DTS, but not Dolby Atmos. Optical is a fallback for TVs without ARC/eARC, not an Atmos-equivalent connection.
Why does my TV remote control volume over HDMI but not optical?
HDMI-CEC can carry TV-remote volume commands when enabled. WiiM documents no TV-remote volume adjustment over optical, so use the Bar remote or WiiM controls with that connection.
What firmware version should my WiiM Bar have?
WiiM’s September 11, 2026 release entry lists 5.2.829051 as latest in that entry and notes a staged rollout plus a fix for no sound with certain TVs. Check the installed version in WiiM Home because releases and rollout timing can change.
Quick wins for a faster PC:

Yes, instability in a multi-device WiiM setup can look like lip-sync trouble. Keep the Bar and surround speakers on one stable network, use Ethernet where feasible, stabilize the network, and then fine-tune the TV’s A/V sync.
The Bottom Line
Start with the free checks: WiiM Bar HDMI eARC to the TV’s ARC/eARC port, WiiM selected as audio output, CEC enabled, digital audio on Pass Through or Auto, and the Bar set to HDMI eARC. Use the TV’s A/V sync control for lip-sync. For Atmos, use HDMI eARC and the source’s automatic Atmos settings; optical is only a fallback and does not carry Atmos or TV-remote volume commands. Check WiiM Home for firmware before buying replacement hardware.
