Start with Filmmaker Mode for unnatural motion, then reduce or disable motion smoothing if artifacts remain. If colors or color temperature jump between scenes, test the projector with Scenario Enhancement turned off. For a useful baseline, compare Filmmaker Mode with Theater Night and Theater Day before changing individual controls. A reviewer-tested combination—Filmmaker Mode, Warm 2, Dynamic Tone Mapping on, and Film motion—improved motion and overall balance, but intermittent color problems in dark scenes remained, so it is a starting point rather than a universal calibration.
Identify the symptom before changing settings
Use the same movie scene, game sequence, or test clip while comparing settings. Write down whether the problem appears on every input or only one device, only with HDR, only in a particular picture mode, or only in dark scenes. This prevents a source problem from being mistaken for a projector calibration problem.

- Washed-out colors: colors look gray, skin tones lack saturation, or the image appears milky even when brightness is adequate.
- Poor contrast: blacks look gray, shadow detail disappears, or bright areas seem flat beside dark areas.
- Motion issues: camera pans look unnaturally smooth, faces or objects show halos, or fast action breaks into trails and smears.
- Scene-to-scene shifts: the image suddenly becomes warmer, cooler, brighter, or darker, sometimes with a brief blackout.
Change one control at a time and allow the same scene to replay before judging it. If the issue occurs only on one HDMI source, check that source’s output range, HDR mode, and cable before altering the PX4 Pro’s global picture settings.

Use Filmmaker Mode as the first test
Open the PX4 Pro’s picture-mode menu and select Filmmaker Mode. In an exact-model review, this mode removed the motion problems the reviewer observed. It is the quickest way to determine whether the projector’s processing, rather than the source video, is creating the unnatural look.

Play a familiar 24-frame-per-second film scene with a slow pan, subtitles, and a moving face. Natural film motion should retain a slight cinematic cadence. If the pan still looks hyper-smooth or moving edges show halos, continue with the controls below.
Reduce or disable motion smoothing in other modes
If you prefer Theater Night, Theater Day, or another mode, locate the motion-smoothing or motion-enhancement control and reduce it to its lowest setting or turn it off. Tom’s Guide observed heavy default smoothing on the PX4 Pro that produced artifacts in some action scenes. Reviewer Mark Knapp described disabling or limiting the processing as simple and more pleasant for viewing.
Do not judge motion with a 60-fps sports feed alone; high-frame-rate content can look acceptable with settings that damage film playback. Check both a 24-fps movie and the content you watch most.

Choose Film motion only after the basic comparison
What Hi-Fi?’s tested setup used Film motion alongside Filmmaker Mode, Warm 2, and Dynamic Tone Mapping. Treat Film motion as a comparison option, not a guaranteed fix. If it introduces flicker, repeated frames, or visible judder in your room, return to the setting that preserves the most natural movement for your sources.
Stop abrupt color and temperature changes
Test Scenario Enhancement off
Tom’s Guide reported scene-dependent color and color-temperature swings when the PX4 Pro’s automatic Scenario Enhancement feature was active. The reviewer also saw an occasional brief blackout. Turn the feature off, replay the exact scene that changed appearance, and compare it with the original setting.
This is a targeted test, not proof that every owner’s color problem has the same cause. If disabling Scenario Enhancement makes scenes stable, leave it off and continue calibrating from that stable baseline. If nothing changes, restore your preferred setting and investigate the source signal or firmware instead.
Check whether HDR is the trigger
Play the same title in standard dynamic range and HDR when both versions are available. If color shifts occur only in HDR, compare the PX4 Pro’s HDR picture mode and tone-mapping options rather than changing SDR color controls. A setting that looks correct in SDR can make HDR highlights or shadows appear wrong.

Establish a reliable picture baseline
Before manual calibration, compare the factory modes under the lighting in which you normally watch. Projector Reviews described the factory presets as well calibrated for most viewers. What Hi-Fi? nevertheless found a useful combination that began with Filmmaker Mode and specific color and tone controls.
| Baseline or control | Best use in troubleshooting | What to watch for |
|---|---|---|
| Filmmaker Mode | First test for unnatural motion and processing artifacts | More natural movement; verify that dark-scene colors remain stable |
| Theater Night | Dim-room comparison | Shadow detail and black level without crushing near-black objects |
| Theater Day | Brighter-room comparison | Readable highlights and sufficient image brightness without a gray haze |
| Scenario Enhancement off | Test for abrupt scene-to-scene changes | More consistent color and temperature; note whether blackouts stop |
| Warm 2 | Reviewer-tested color-temperature starting point | Natural neutrals and skin tones; it may look noticeably warm on some units |
| Dynamic Tone Mapping on | Reviewer-tested HDR starting point | Highlight detail versus lifted blacks or altered shadow color |
Do not copy numeric settings from another projector or review without matching the signal type, picture mode, firmware, screen, and room. A value measured on one sample is not automatically correct for another unit.
Verify the source before recalibrating the projector
A useful isolation test is to leave the projector on one baseline mode and switch between two known-good sources. Use the same title, or as close a match as possible, from a streaming box, game console, disc player, or internal app. If only one source looks gray or has broken motion, the PX4 Pro is probably not the only variable.
- Confirm that the source is outputting the intended SDR or HDR format rather than converting everything to HDR.
- Compare the source’s video-range choice with the projector’s expected range. A mismatch can make blacks look gray or crush shadow detail.
- Try a different certified cable or input if the symptom includes dropouts, a brief blackout, or intermittent color changes.
- Disable extra image processing in the source while testing, so two devices are not smoothing or sharpening the same frame.
These checks do not replace PX4 Pro settings tests; they keep you from making a global adjustment to compensate for one misconfigured input.
Correct a picture that is too warm, too cool, or washed out
Compare color temperatures deliberately
Start from the baseline mode that looked most stable, then compare the available color-temperature choices using neutral objects: white subtitles, gray clothing, clouds, and skin. What Hi-Fi? found Warm 2 noticeably warm in its sample, while cooler profiles overshot in the opposite direction in some dark scenes.
Make only one temperature change, then replay bright and dim scenes. A setting that makes a white title card look neutral can still tint shadow areas blue or red. Keep the profile that produces the most consistent neutrals and believable skin across both conditions, not the one that wins a single frame.
Separate saturation from brightness
Washed-out color is not always caused by low color saturation. Excessive brightness, an incorrect black-level range from the source, or HDR tone mapping can flatten the image. First return to a known picture mode; then adjust color or brightness in small steps while watching a scene containing skin, foliage, a red object, and a near-black area.

If only one streaming box, console, or disc player looks gray, compare that device with another input using the same content. The projector cannot correct a source that is sending the wrong range or an altered HDR signal.

Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallProtect shadow detail while restoring contrast
Do not judge contrast from a black screen alone. Use a dark scene containing a black coat, hair, furniture, and a dimly lit wall. If all dark areas merge, you have crushed shadow detail; if every dark area is gray, the room, screen, source level, or iris setting may be limiting black level.
Use the fixed iris to balance black level and brightness
ProjectorScreen.com reported that closing the PX4 Pro’s fixed iris improved black level and native contrast while reducing brightness. There is no universally best position: a dark room with a bright screen can tolerate less light, while a room with ambient light may need the brighter setting even if blacks look less deep.
| Room or screen condition | Iris direction to test | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Dark room, image appears overly bright and blacks look gray | Close the iris incrementally | Deeper blacks and higher native contrast, with lower peak brightness |
| Ambient light or large screen, image lacks impact | Open the iris incrementally | More brightness, but blacks may look lighter |
| Mixed viewing conditions | Compare two practical positions for separate day and night use | One position cannot maximize brightness and black level simultaneously |
After each iris change, replay a bright HDR scene and a dark SDR or HDR scene. Keep the position that preserves readable highlights and shadow detail for your normal seating position, rather than selecting the setting with the highest contrast number in isolation.
Know what published measurements do—and do not—prove
Reviews provide useful context, but their figures are measurements of individual samples, not guarantees or failure rates for every PX4 Pro.
Quick wins for a faster PC:

|---|---|---|
| Brightness | 3,612 ANSI lumens | Tom’s Guide measurement using a nine-point lux-meter procedure in 2026; slightly above the 3,500-lumen rating |
| Full-on/full-off contrast | 12,417:1 | Tom’s Guide measurement; the reviewer cautioned that this extreme pattern does not represent most real-world scenes |
| Color coverage | 100% sRGB, 98% DCI-P3, 96% BT.2020 | Tom’s Guide colorimeter readings for that review sample and settings |

| Claimed color coverage | 118% BT.2020 | Manufacturer-quoted specification reported by What Hi-Fi?, not a guarantee for every unit or mode |
These figures explain why a unit can be bright and wide-gamut on paper yet still look washed out in a particular room or scene. They do not establish how many owners experience color or motion faults; no population-level complaint rate was established.
Check firmware before assuming a hardware fault
ProjectorScreen.com reported on September 18, 2026 that an update with Dynamic Iris and stronger optional rainbow-effect reduction was targeted for October. That report said testing was still pending, so availability and real-world results were not confirmed there.

- Open the PX4 Pro’s system or support menu and note the installed firmware version exactly as shown on the projector.
- Compare that version with the update information supplied for your region and model. Do not install firmware intended for a different Hisense projector or television.
- If an update is offered through the projector, follow its on-screen power and network instructions and do not interrupt the installation.
- After updating, restore or recheck your picture mode, motion, Scenario Enhancement, tone-mapping, color-temperature, and iris settings; firmware can change defaults.
- Replay the same reference scenes and record whether the original symptom changed before altering additional controls.
Menu names and update availability can vary by country and software version. Verify the model identifier on the projector itself rather than relying on a generic support page.
Common comparison mistakes to avoid
- Changing several controls at once, which hides which adjustment helped or hurt.
- Comparing different scenes, streams, or frame rates and attributing their natural differences to the projector.
- Evaluating only a bright title card, where crushed blacks and color-temperature errors are invisible.
- Choosing the brightest iris position by eye in daylight, then discovering that it looks gray in a dark room.
- Assuming a reviewer’s measured color gamut or contrast ratio predicts your screen, firmware, or viewing environment.
- Using a generic Hisense television menu guide as if every label and path were confirmed for the PX4 Pro.
Keep a short settings log with the input, SDR or HDR status, picture mode, motion setting, Scenario Enhancement state, color temperature, tone mapping, iris position, and firmware version. It makes a repeat test possible and gives support a usable description if service becomes necessary.
Reset only after isolating the cause
A reset can remove an accidental combination of picture settings, but it also erases adjustments that were working. Use it after you have identified whether the issue follows the projector, input, HDR mode, or picture preset.
- Photograph or write down your current picture, motion, HDR, color-temperature, Scenario Enhancement, and iris choices.
- Disconnect unnecessary sources and test one known-good input with a familiar scene.
- Use the projector’s own reset option only after confirming the menu label and warning screen on your PX4 Pro.
- Reapply one baseline mode, then test motion, color stability, and contrast before restoring personal preferences.
The official manual surfaced for this subject is a general Hisense MT9612 NA television e-manual, not a verified PX4 Pro projector manual. It describes general picture controls and a reset option, but explicitly notes that features and menus vary by model, country, and content. Treat its navigation as background information, not confirmed PX4 Pro instructions.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. When settings are unlikely to solve the problem
- The symptom appears on every input, in every picture mode, with both SDR and HDR, after a documented firmware check.
- Color changes are accompanied by persistent blackouts, flicker, or a mechanical noise rather than a single brief transition.
- One side of the image is consistently tinted, dimmer, or lower in contrast than the other side.
- Motion artifacts remain with Filmmaker Mode and motion processing disabled, including on multiple sources.
- The projector cannot retain settings after power cycles or repeatedly returns to a different picture mode.
At that point, record the model and serial information, firmware version, input device, signal format, picture mode, and a short description of the repeatable scene. Contact Hisense support or the retailer using those details. Avoid opening the optical engine or attempting internal calibration without qualified service.
A repeatable five-minute verification routine
- Choose one 24-fps film scene with a slow pan, one bright scene with skin tones, and one dark scene with visible shadow detail.
- Set Filmmaker Mode and note whether motion artifacts disappear.
- Turn Scenario Enhancement off and replay the bright and dark scenes to check for color-temperature swings or blackouts.
- Compare Warm 2 with one cooler profile, changing nothing else, and keep notes on neutral objects and skin.
- Test Dynamic Tone Mapping on and off with HDR content, watching highlight detail and black level.
- Try one more-closed and one more-open iris position, choosing according to room brightness and screen size.
- Repeat the winning combination on a second input. If the symptom follows only one source, troubleshoot that source instead of changing the projector again.
This sequence produces a usable baseline without assuming that a reviewer’s sample, room, screen, firmware, or preferred brightness matches yours.
Frequently Asked Questions
What should I try first when the PX4 Pro looks like a soap opera?
Select Filmmaker Mode and replay a 24-fps movie scene. If you use another picture mode, reduce or disable motion smoothing, then compare the same pan and moving faces again.

Why do colors change between scenes on my Hisense PX4 Pro?
Test Scenario Enhancement with the feature turned off. Tom’s Guide observed scene-dependent color and color-temperature swings, including an occasional brief blackout, with this automatic feature active. If the change remains, compare HDR and SDR and check the source signal.
Is Warm 2 the correct color-temperature setting?
Warm 2 is a useful reviewer-tested starting point, but What Hi-Fi? found it noticeably warm on its sample. Compare it with a cooler profile using white subtitles, gray objects, and skin tones in both bright and dark scenes.
Will closing the iris always improve the picture?
Closing the fixed iris can improve black level and native contrast, but it reduces brightness. It is usually worth testing in a dark room with a bright screen; open it more when ambient light or a large screen makes the image lack impact.
Can the published 3,612-lumen or 12,417:1 figures diagnose my unit?
No. Those are Tom’s Guide measurements of one sample using specific procedures. The full-on/full-off contrast figure especially does not represent most real-world scenes, and neither number establishes a failure rate.
Should I follow a Hisense television manual for PX4 Pro menu paths?
Only as general background. The manual identified for these controls is a Hisense MT9612 NA television e-manual, not a verified PX4 Pro projector manual. Confirm labels and reset warnings on the projector or in PX4 Pro-specific support material.
When should I contact Hisense instead of changing settings again?
Seek support when the problem persists on every input and in every mode after a firmware check, when one side is consistently tinted or dim, when blackouts or mechanical noise continue, or when settings will not stay saved. Provide the model, serial number, firmware, signal format, and repeatable scene.
The Bottom Line
For motion issues, begin with Filmmaker Mode and reduce or disable smoothing. For abrupt color shifts, test Scenario Enhancement off. Then compare Theater Night and Theater Day, evaluate Warm 2 and Dynamic Tone Mapping deliberately, and use the fixed iris to balance black level against brightness. Test one change at a time on the same SDR and HDR scenes, verify firmware on the projector, and seek service when symptoms persist across sources and modes.
