How to Fix vMix Audio Out of Sync on a 24/7 YouTube Stream in India

First find out whether the audio is out of sync in vMix itself or only in YouTube playback. If vMix’s local output or recording is wrong, measure the mismatch and adjust the affected audio input’s delay. If the local version is in sync, leave that offset alone and investigate encoder load, stream health, archive evidence and the upload connection instead.

1. Locate where the sync problem begins

Use the same representative section to compare vMix’s local program output or a local recording with the stream in YouTube’s Live Control Room. Include clear movement paired with sound, such as a hand clap, and check more than one point in the stream if the problem changes over time. YouTube recommends testing with audio and movement like the real broadcast.

  • Out of sync locally and on YouTube: investigate the vMix production and input chain first.
  • In sync locally, wrong only on YouTube: check the encoder, stream-health messages and delivery path before changing an input delay.
  • Sync changes during the broadcast: note when it starts or worsens. A fixed offset and a changing mismatch are different clues; correlate the latter with stream-health timestamps and changing operating conditions.

For a continuous stream, preserve local evidence where practical. Check that any recording or archive is actually being created and inspect the affected section. YouTube says encoder streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; this does not establish that a 24-hour broadcast will be available as one complete archive. Confirm current archive behavior for your channel and plan for long runs accordingly. See YouTube’s encoder setup guidance.

2. If vMix’s local output is wrong, adjust the affected input

Separate camera and audio inputs can arrive at different times; vMix notes that audio may arrive sooner than video. Its input Delay is adjusted per audio input, so do not copy a millisecond value from another setup. Measure your own mismatch and make small adjustments.

  1. In vMix, open Audio Mixer.
  2. Click the settings button for the affected audio input.
  3. Open General and find Delay.
  4. If sound comes before the matching picture, increase the audio delay. If sound comes after it, adjust based on repeated checks rather than assuming the same direction applies.
  5. Use a repeatable visual and audio cue, make a small change, then check the local output or recording again. Repeat until the cue aligns.

Use the input carrying the audio that is actually mis-timed. This matters when camera video and a separate microphone or mixer are connected as distinct inputs. vMix’s guide also describes camera audio embedded through a capture-card input as a combined input path; consider a different signal path only after checking the camera, connection and current routing, not as a presumed fix for YouTube-side drift.

See vMix’s input-delay instructions.

3. If only YouTube playback is wrong, inspect delivery evidence

Compare the encoder’s output with the YouTube playback, then check the local archive or recording, encoder CPU load and Live Control Room stream-health messages. YouTube recommends checking the stream directly in the encoder, dashboard errors, local archive files and outbound connection strength. If the encoder output looks and sounds healthy, the outbound internet connection is one possible source of the problem.

  1. In YouTube’s Live Control Room, review stream health and note the exact messages and their timestamps.
  2. Check vMix’s output directly and review a local recording of the affected interval, if available.
  3. Check vMix’s CPU load and whether the encoder is reporting errors or struggling during the same interval.
  4. Measure upload capacity at the actual streaming location, including during the conditions when the mismatch happens. Check whether other users or devices share the connection.
  5. Correlate any upload variation or stream-health warnings with the time the sync issue begins. Avoid changing the vMix audio offset unless the local output also shows a mismatch.

Use YouTube’s live-stream troubleshooting guidance and Live Control Room metrics to interpret platform-side evidence.

4. Check upload headroom, buffering and encoder format

Upload headroom

YouTube recommends that total streaming bitrate fit within available upload bandwidth with 20% headroom. That is a recommendation, not a measurement of your Indian ISP or a guarantee of stable capacity. Measure from the place where vMix streams, and repeat under representative conditions; shared networks can reduce the upload available to the stream. Refer to YouTube’s streaming tips.

Network Buffer is not lip-sync correction

vMix’s Network Buffer sets the maximum time vMix can buffer; server and player buffers can add further latency. vMix says increasing the buffer may help when network speed is unreliable, but a larger buffer can increase delay. It does not correct the timing of an audio input relative to video. Do not use it as a substitute for the per-input Delay setting. Likewise, Stream Delay concerns buffering and latency, not input timing. See vMix Help 27: Streaming Quality.

Encoder settings

Before changing format settings, compare the selected encoder configuration with YouTube’s current recommendations and the messages in stream health. YouTube’s encoder guidance lists RTMP/RTMPS video codecs and audio codec options; it recommends constant bitrate (CBR), a two-second keyframe interval (not over four seconds), and, for stereo audio, a 44.1 kHz sample rate and 128 kbps audio bitrate. The cited vMix Help 27 page says AAC is the audio option when FFMPEG is selected. These settings are useful checks, but changing them is not a substitute for locating whether the mismatch begins locally or downstream.

5. Keep a 24/7 stream diagnosable

  • Monitor audio/video quality and stream health continuously, as YouTube recommends for live streams.
  • Keep a local recording or other usable evidence when practical; verify that it is growing and that the affected interval can be reviewed.
  • Record the time of any sync change and compare it with stream-health timestamps, encoder load and upload conditions.
  • Do not assume a single complete YouTube archive for a 24-hour run: YouTube’s stated automatic archive guidance covers encoder streams under 12 hours.

See YouTube’s live-stream tips for monitoring guidance.

Does streaming from India change the diagnosis?

The official vMix and YouTube guidance cited here does not identify India as a specific cause of audio sync problems. Treat location as a reason to measure upload stability at the actual streaming site and check for a shared connection—not as evidence that geography or a particular provider caused the fault. Use local measurements and timestamped stream-health information to narrow it down.

Or let it run in the cloud

If you do not want a computer or home connection to remain on for a 24/7 YouTube stream, StreamNeo runs uploaded videos from the cloud. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live.

  • Nothing has to stay on at home.
  • Any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps streams as made, at one flat price per slot.
  • Automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream.
  • The first day is free with no card.

The monthly option is $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo for details, or start the free first day.
