If VLC stops after the last song, first check whether VLC is only playing a local playlist or is broadcasting the songs through VLM. For local playback, enable whole-playlist looping—not repeat-current-track. For a VLM broadcast, check that the channel lists the songs in sequence and that broadcast looping is enabled if the list should restart. These are different controls, so the fix depends on where playback is stopping.
First identify which part of the stream stops
“Live stream” can mean different setups. VLC may be playing songs on one computer while another app broadcasts them, or VLC may be broadcasting a playlist itself using its VideoLAN Manager (VLM) feature. The listener may also be watching a live source that is not a VLC playlist.

- Only local playback stops: VLC reaches the end of its playlist on the computer.
- The broadcast stops after the last song: VLC is likely acting as the broadcaster, and the VLM channel may need its input list or loop setting checked.
- Listeners lose the stream between songs: the output may not be kept across track transitions; compare the VLM configuration with VideoLAN’s documented multi-song example.

Before following version-specific menu directions, note the VLC version, operating system, source type (local files, a URL, or a VLM channel), and whether playback stops on the broadcaster’s computer or for remote listeners.

Choose loop-all, not repeat-current
VLC distinguishes between repeating the current item and looping the entire playlist. If you want the Indian music playlist to start again at its first song after the last one, select the whole-playlist loop or repeat-all control in your version of VLC. Repeat-current plays the same song again; it is not the setting for cycling through the list.

VideoLAN’s Lua playlist API documents separate controls for current-item repeat and playlist looping. Its HTTP interface reference likewise lists distinct pl_repeat and pl_loop commands. The names establish the distinction, but the exact on-screen control or icon can vary by VLC version and operating system.
Check that VLC has the intended playlist
Confirm the playlist contains every song you expect and that the final item is actually the end of the list. If VLC is playing a single file rather than a playlist, playlist looping cannot make a multi-song set continue. If your playlist uses URLs, verify those sources remain reachable when playback gets to them.

Fix a VLM broadcast that ends after the last song
Check the channel’s song inputs and order
In a VLM setup, confirm the broadcast channel contains all intended song inputs in the desired sequence. VideoLAN’s VLC 3.0 guide to broadcasting a playlist shows three successive song inputs on one channel and explains that VLM proceeds to the next input when the current one ends.

For a channel that should begin again after its final input, inspect the VLM broadcast loop option. The VLM documentation describes loop behavior as restarting the input list after the last input finishes. This is separate from looping a local VLC playlist; changing the local playback mode alone does not establish that a VLM channel will repeat.

Keep the stream output across song transitions
If the broadcast drops at each song boundary rather than ending cleanly after the last one, compare the output configuration with VideoLAN’s official VLM example. That example includes sout-keep so streaming does not break when one song ends. This recommendation is specific to the documented multi-input VLM configuration; it is not a universal fix for local playlist playback or every VLC streaming setup.
If a script launches VLC
When VLC is started by a script or automation, inspect its launch arguments and the automation for an explicit play-and-exit or quit-at-end instruction. Such an instruction is intended to close VLC when playback ends. Do not remove an argument based on its name alone: the exact behavior can depend on the installed version and how the script invokes VLC. Check that version’s own help and review the script before changing it.
