A game-specific guide reports that placing the right Joy-Con 2 on a flat surface activates mouse mode by default, while lifting it switches back to button controls. If the controller keeps changing modes unexpectedly, check the game’s control settings: the guide says automatic switching can be changed, but does not provide an exact menu path or setting label. Use the game’s own control display if your bindings or behavior differ. Move the Joy-Con 2 to a stable, flat surface such as a table. Avoid glass and highly reflective surfaces; Nintendo warns that some materials or fabrics may not track properly. Uneven surfaces, including a lap, can also interfere with tracking. If you are using the controller on your lap or another uneven surface, try again on a clear, flat surface with no obstructions between the controllers and console.

3. Attach the Joy-Con 2 strap
Nintendo instructs players to attach the strap before using mouse controls: “Always attach the Joy-Con 2 strap to the controllers before using mouse controls.” Follow the handling guidance in Nintendo Support’s “Using Joy-Con 2 as a Mouse”.
4. Check for a game update
Nintendo’s update history lists Ver. 1.0.1, released September 16, 2026, as the latest update recorded there. Nintendo says it “Fixed various issues to create a smoother gaming experience,” but does not identify mouse controls as a specific fix. Install the available update, then test the same controller and surface again. Do not treat the general update note as confirmation that it resolves mouse tracking problems. 5. If the problem persists
If the cursor still will not respond or track accurately after checking the mode, surface, strap, and update, contact Nintendo Support for diagnosis. The official sources cited here do not identify a known mouse-control bug or provide a Joy-Con 2 sensor test, so persistent trouble alone does not establish whether the cause is the game, the controller, or another issue. A replacement is not a guaranteed fix.
