Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsStart by identifying the exact ThinkPad X1 2-in-1 generation and confirming that your particular LCD includes touch hardware. The troubleshooting and pen behavior documented for the ThinkPad X1 2-in-1 Gen 10 Aura Edition should not be assumed for every X1 generation. Once the model is confirmed, check Windows’ touch status, restore the HID touchscreen device in Device Manager, and install only drivers offered for that machine and Windows version.
For a Gen 10 Yoga Pen, charging, Bluetooth pairing, and Lenovo Pen Settings are the first checks. If the screen will not rotate, do not copy a BIOS or sensor fix from another Yoga model: use the exact X1 support page, because Lenovo’s published autorotation procedure in the available documentation applies to the L390 Yoga, not the X1 2-in-1.

Identify the exact X1 2-in-1 before changing software
“ThinkPad X1 2-in-1” describes more than one generation. Driver, firmware, display, and pen compatibility can differ between them, so begin with the product name, machine type, serial number, and Windows edition shown on your computer. Lenovo Support’s product-selection page can then present the Drivers & Software list for the correct unit.

Use the model and serial information printed on the computer, its original documentation, or the Lenovo support application already installed on Windows. If the computer starts normally, Windows’ system information also identifies the model. Record the complete designation rather than relying on “X1 Yoga” or “X1 2-in-1” alone. That detail prevents installing a package intended for another generation.

Confirm that the LCD is actually touch-capable
Search Windows for Pen and Touch and open the system information result. Lenovo notes that the message No pen or touch input is available for this display
can mean the installed LCD does not support touch. A touch-equipped panel may report Windows touch support, including support for 10 touch points, although the wording can vary by hardware and Windows version.
Treat that message as a hardware-configuration clue, not automatically as a failed driver. Check the exact machine specification and the LCD part information for your serial-number-selected computer. Some X1 2-in-1 configurations can look identical while using different display assemblies. If the parts listing identifies a non-touch panel, no driver can add touch capability.
Use this order of checks
- Identify the generation and serial number. Select that computer on Lenovo Support before downloading anything.
- Verify the display configuration. Check Pen and Touch in Windows and compare it with the machine’s specification and LCD part.
- Inspect the input device. For touch, look for the HID-compliant touchscreen in Device Manager. For a pen, check charging, Bluetooth, and Lenovo Pen Settings.
- Check convertible mode. On the documented Gen 10 design, stand, tent, and tablet modes intentionally disable the keyboard and pointing device.
- Repair software only after the hardware and mode checks. Update, reinstall, or roll back the package selected for the exact model and operating system.
- Escalate model-specific firmware or hardware faults. Do not apply a BIOS or sensor procedure copied from another Yoga model.
Fix a touchscreen that does not respond
1. Establish whether Windows expects touch
Open Pen and Touch in Windows system information. If Windows reports that no pen or touch input is available, compare that result with Lenovo’s specification for your exact machine. When the specification says the computer has a touch panel but Windows reports none, continue with Device Manager. When both indicate a non-touch LCD, the behavior is expected.

2. Inspect Human Interface Devices
Right-click the Start button and open Device Manager. Expand Human Interface Devices. Look for HID-compliant touchscreen or the corresponding HID touch entry.
If the entry is missing, select View > Show hidden devices. A hidden entry can indicate that Windows has retained the device record but is not currently presenting it. If an entry appears disabled, right-click it and choose Enable device.
3. Disable, re-enable, and restart
For an expected touch panel whose HID entry is present, Lenovo’s troubleshooting sequence includes disabling the touchscreen device and then enabling it again. Right-click the HID-compliant touchscreen, choose Disable device, confirm, then open the menu again and choose Enable device. Restart Windows and test with a simple tap, drag, and two-finger gesture.
Restarting matters because the HID stack and the panel controller are initialized again during boot. If the device reappears and responds after the restart, avoid replacing drivers unnecessarily.
4. Update the touchscreen driver for the selected computer
In Device Manager, right-click the HID-compliant touchscreen and select Update driver. After Windows completes the operation, restart and test again. If Windows reports that the best driver is already installed but the panel remains unusable, use Lenovo Support’s Drivers & Software area for the exact model and operating system rather than a generic driver website or an automatic updater.

Follow Lenovo’s package instructions, restart when requested, and test touch before installing another package. A driver intended for a different X1 generation can be accepted by Windows while still failing to initialize the panel correctly.
5. Reinstall or roll back when the timing points to a driver change
If the fault began immediately after a driver update, open the touchscreen device’s Properties in Device Manager and check the Driver tab. Use Roll Back Driver when Windows makes that option available. This is preferable to guessing at an older package because it returns to the previous driver recorded by Windows.
If rollback is unavailable or does not help, Lenovo describes uninstalling the touchscreen device and then installing the appropriate Lenovo driver from the model-specific support page. In Device Manager, choose Uninstall device, confirm, restart, and install the downloaded Lenovo package. Restart again and verify the HID entry and touch response.
6. Treat ghost touches as a separate symptom
For taps that appear without contact or a pointer that moves as if the screen is being pressed, clean and dry the display and remove anything pressing against its edges. Lenovo’s touch-screen guidance starts with screen cleanliness and then returns to confirming the configured touch display and the HID device and driver state.
Do not assume that a registry edit, unofficial calibration utility, or a driver for another ThinkPad is a Lenovo-confirmed fix. If ghost input continues after the configuration and driver checks, document whether it occurs in Windows immediately after startup and contact Lenovo service for the exact machine.
Fix a Lenovo pen that is not detected or does not write
The detailed pen directions available for this family address the Lenovo Yoga Pen with the ThinkPad X1 2-in-1 Gen 10 Aura Edition. They are useful for that documented combination, but they do not establish that one pen model works across every X1 2-in-1 generation. Confirm the pen part and computer generation before buying a replacement.
1. Charge the pen
Charge the pen using its specified charging method. Charging time varies by pen type, so a short charge time or a blinking indicator should not be interpreted as a universal standard. If the pen has been stored for a long period, leave it connected long enough to establish a charge before attempting Bluetooth pairing.

Pairing is distinct from writing: a pen can be physically charged yet absent from Windows, or paired while its buttons and hover behavior are misconfigured. Test writing in a basic Windows text or drawing area after pairing.
3. Check Lenovo Pen Settings
Update or open Lenovo Pen Settings for the supported computer. Lenovo’s Gen 10 feature documentation says this utility can display pen battery state and configure pen-button functions and hover behavior. If writing works but a button does not, inspect the assigned action instead of treating the whole pen as disconnected.
Windows also exposes pen controls under Bluetooth & devices > Pen & Windows Ink. Review those settings when the pen is connected but pressure, shortcuts, or hover behavior is not what you expect.

The available X1 FAQ specifically documents the Yoga Pen for Gen 10. It does not verify universal interchangeability among X1 2-in-1 generations, current retail stock, or compatibility with every pen sold under a similar name. Use the serial-number-selected Lenovo support page and the machine’s parts information to confirm the supported pen before ordering.
| Pen symptom | First check | What to verify next |
|---|---|---|
| Pen is not listed in Windows | Charge and turn on Bluetooth | Remove an old pairing and pair again near the computer |
| Pen pairs but does not write | Test in a basic Windows writing area | Confirm the display is a touch-capable configuration and inspect the HID touchscreen |
| Writing works but a button fails | Open Lenovo Pen Settings | Check button assignments, battery state, and hover options |

Understand keyboard and pointing-device behavior after folding the display
On the documented ThinkPad X1 2-in-1 Gen 10 Aura Edition, Lenovo defines four operating positions:
| Mode | Keyboard and pointing device | Intended primary control |
|---|---|---|
| Notebook mode | Available | Keyboard, pointing device, or touch |
| Stand mode | Automatically disabled | Touch |
| Tent mode | Automatically disabled | Touch |
| Tablet mode | Automatically disabled | Touch |
Lenovo states: The keyboard and the pointing device are automatically disabled in the stand mode, tent mode, and tablet mode.
Therefore, a dark keyboard or inactive touchpad immediately after folding is not, by itself, evidence of a hardware failure. Return the display to notebook mode and check whether both devices return.
Do not force the hinge or press hard on the upper corners while rotating the display. Lenovo specifically cautions against excessive force during conversion. If the keyboard and pointing device remain disabled in notebook mode, troubleshoot them as a separate input problem and verify that touch is available as a temporary control method.
Troubleshoot an X1 2-in-1 that will not auto-rotate
Start with the symptom and recent change
Confirm that the screen is physically in a convertible position and that Windows is not configured to lock the current orientation. Check Windows’ display-orientation and rotation-lock controls, then test again after returning to notebook mode and folding the display once more. Note whether the failure began after a Windows update, driver installation, firmware change, or motherboard repair.

The available Lenovo material does not establish an X1 2-in-1-specific sensor driver name, BIOS version, or exact Windows menu sequence for autorotation. That limitation matters: a sensor package that fixes another Yoga model can be wrong for an X1.
Do not copy the L390 Yoga procedure to an X1
Lenovo documents a narrow case for the ThinkPad L390 Yoga: after a motherboard replacement, if Intel Integrated Sensor Solution is missing in Device Manager under System devices, Lenovo recommends updating the BIOS or loading BIOS defaults. After restarting, the sensor entry should be present.
That procedure is tied to the L390 Yoga and its post-motherboard-replacement condition. It is not evidence that an X1 2-in-1 uses the same sensor package, BIOS baseline, or recovery steps. Do not install an L390 BIOS or sensor driver on an X1.
Use the exact X1 support page
Select the X1 2-in-1 by serial number on Lenovo Support and review the packages listed for that computer. Check sensor, chipset, graphics, and firmware entries that Lenovo identifies for that generation and Windows version. Read the release notes and installation requirements before changing BIOS or firmware, keep the computer on reliable power, and avoid interrupting an update.
If no X1-specific package or documented procedure addresses the symptom, record the machine type, serial number, Windows version, recent hardware work, and the presence or absence of sensor entries in Device Manager. That information gives Lenovo service a reproducible starting point without risking an incompatible BIOS.
Select drivers and firmware without creating a second problem
Use Lenovo’s model-and-serial workflow
Open Lenovo Support, select the computer using its exact product or serial number, choose Drivers & Software, and set the installed Windows version when the site asks. Download only packages listed for that selection. Keep the downloaded file name and release notes so you can identify what changed if the symptom persists.
Match the remedy to the event that preceded the fault
- Touch disappeared after folding: return to notebook mode, then inspect the HID touchscreen.
- Touch disappeared after an update: check Roll Back Driver before searching for an older package.
- Touch is absent on a newly purchased configuration: verify that the LCD is a touch model before reinstalling software.
- Pen will not connect: charge it, enable Bluetooth, pair it, and inspect Lenovo Pen Settings.
- Rotation failed after board or firmware work: use the exact X1 support page and report the hardware change; do not substitute an L390 procedure.
Avoid generic driver-updater tools
Generic driver catalogs cannot reliably distinguish every X1 2-in-1 generation, display assembly, sensor, and Windows edition. They can also replace a working Lenovo-tuned package with one that lacks the required device configuration. The supported path for these symptoms is Lenovo’s model-specific driver and firmware selection.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
When the software checks do not restore input
Stop repeating driver installations when the exact machine is configured with a touch panel, the HID entry remains absent after showing hidden devices, or the pen and rotation failures began after physical repair. Gather the evidence below before contacting Lenovo:
- Complete ThinkPad model and serial number.
- Windows edition and version.
- Whether Pen and Touch reports touch support.
- Whether HID-compliant touchscreen is present, hidden, disabled, or missing.
- Driver actions already attempted and their dates.
- For a pen, charging status, Bluetooth pairing result, and Lenovo Pen Settings behavior.
- For rotation, the mode in which it fails and any recent BIOS, driver, or motherboard work.
This record separates an unsupported display configuration from a disabled device, an update regression, an expected convertible-mode switch, and a model-specific sensor or hardware fault. It also gives support enough detail to choose the correct package instead of asking you to try unrelated firmware.
