How to Fix Tormented Souls 2 Crashes, Freezes, and Launch Problems on Switch 2

Start with Nintendo’s standard recovery sequence: restart the Switch 2, install every available system and game update, check Tormented Souls 2 for corrupt data, then delete and redownload the software if necessary. If the game is installed on a microSD Express card, test it from system memory as a storage check.

No Tormented Souls 2-specific Switch 2 crash, freeze, launch defect, day-one patch, or verified fix had been documented in the information checked on 13 October 2026. Nintendo lists the Switch 2 release for 15 October 2026, so the steps below are general Switch 2 troubleshooting rather than confirmation of a defect in the game. Recheck Nintendo and PQube notices for changes after launch.

What is confirmed about the Switch 2 version

Nintendo’s game listing gives 15 October 2026 as the Switch 2 release date. PQube identifies Dual Effect Games as the developer, lists the original release as 23 October 2025, and describes the Switch 2 version as forthcoming on its official game page. The information available before that listed date does not establish that the Switch 2 build crashes, freezes, or fails to launch for a particular reason.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

That distinction matters: Nintendo’s instructions for downloaded Switch 2 software are a safe troubleshooting sequence, not a Tormented Souls 2 patch note. They can repair common installation, update, storage, or system-state problems, but they do not prove that the game itself contains a specific bug.

Samsung microSD Express Card – 256GB for Nintendo Switch™ 2
  • Nintendo Switch 2 uses a new standard of expandable memory card called microSD Express (sold separately). This kind of memory card is needed for faster access speeds and to ensure games will run smoothly.
  • Please note: Nintendo Switch 2 is only compatible with microSD Express cards. If the microSD cards you have used for Nintendo Switch do not support microSD Express standards, you cannot use them with Nintendo Switch 2.

Use the exact error text and the point at which the failure occurs to choose the correct branch below. Do not assume that a problem reported for another game, the first Tormented Souls, or a different platform applies to this Switch 2 release.

Identify the failure before changing anything

What you see Record first Start with
The picture or controls freeze, but the console still responds Where it froze: title screen, loading screen, cutscene, menu, or gameplay Use a normal restart, then run the common baseline
The Switch 2 stops responding completely Whether the POWER button or HOME button responds Use the forced-shutdown procedure, then run the baseline
The game closes and displays a software error The complete message and any error code Restart, update the console, reopen the game, and repeat the same action
The icon is present but the game will not start Digital or physical edition, and whether it ever launched successfully Check updates and corrupt data; redownload if needed
The problem appears only when using removable storage Whether the title is installed on a microSD Express card or system memory Test without the card or reinstall to system memory
A physical copy is not recognized Edition format and whether the card is seated as shown by its packaging Power down and reseat it according to Nintendo’s and the package instructions

Write these details down before deleting anything. A reproducible trigger—such as loading one save, opening one menu, or reaching one scene—is more useful to support staff than “it crashes.” Also note whether sound continues, whether the image is still animated, and whether the HOME button works. Those observations separate a game-process failure from a console-wide lockup without requiring you to guess at the cause.

Run the common five-step baseline

Complete these steps in order. After each step, launch the game and test the same situation that failed. Stop when the problem is gone; do not delete software first.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Restart normally. If the console responds, hold the POWER button for three seconds, choose Power Options, and select Restart. This clears a temporary software state without forcing the console off.
  2. Update Switch 2 system software. Open System Settings > System > System Update. Install the offered update, allow the console to restart, and retry Tormented Souls 2.
  3. Update the game. On the HOME Menu, highlight Tormented Souls 2 without opening it, press + or −, choose Software Update, then Via the Internet. Wait for the download and installation to finish before testing.
  4. Check the title for corrupt data. Open System Settings, go to the software and data-management area, select Tormented Souls 2, and choose the option to check for corrupt data. Follow the result screen’s instructions. Menu wording can change with system software, so select the entry specifically labelled for checking corrupted data rather than deleting save data.
  5. Delete and redownload the software if the fault remains. Use the title’s software-management menu, read every confirmation screen, and remove only the game software. Redownload it from the account or source used to obtain it, with the console connected to a stable internet connection and enough free storage. Do not select an option that deletes saved data unless you deliberately intend to erase it.

Nintendo describes this sequence in its Switch 2 downloaded-software freezing guidance. It is platform-level advice and does not identify a Tormented Souls 2 code defect.

Keep the console connected to power during a long update or redownload, and avoid launching another title while the installation is incomplete. If the download pauses, check the available space and connection before assuming that the game itself is damaged. Once the installation completes, test the same menu, scene, or save that originally failed so your comparison remains meaningful.

If the console or game is frozen

When the HOME Menu still opens

Press the HOME button once. If the system responds, close the game from the HOME Menu, restart normally using Power Options > Restart, and then run the baseline above. Avoid repeatedly holding buttons while the console is still processing; give it a moment to respond first.

When nothing responds

Hold the POWER button for twelve seconds to force the Switch 2 off. Wait briefly, press POWER to turn it on, and run the system-update, game-update, corrupt-data, and redownload checks. A forced shutdown is a recovery measure for an unresponsive console, not evidence that Tormented Souls 2 is defective.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

If the freeze returns at the same point

Note the chapter or location, loading transition, menu action, and whether the same save file is involved. Test once after the baseline has completed. If it still freezes, stop repeating resets and preserve those details for support; repeated forced shutdowns will not create a title-specific fix.

If only one save appears affected, do not overwrite it while troubleshooting. Record the save slot and scene, then test another available save only if doing so will not erase evidence. A failure that follows one save is useful information for PQube; a failure that occurs on every new or existing save points to a broader installation or platform question.

If Tormented Souls 2 closes with a software error

Nintendo’s dedicated software-error guidance says to restart the console, verify that system software is current, reopen the game, and return to the circumstance where the error appeared. Follow that order:

  1. Read the message completely and photograph or transcribe the code.
  2. Restart the Switch 2 normally. If it was unresponsive, use the twelve-second forced shutdown instead.
  3. Check System Settings > System > System Update.
  4. Open Tormented Souls 2 again and repeat the same action that produced the error.
  5. If it repeats, check for a game update and corrupt data, then redownload the software if required.

Keep the exact message even if the game later starts. Nintendo directs players to contact support when the same software error persists after the restart and update checks. Include whether the error appears immediately after selecting the icon or only after loading a save; that timing can help support distinguish launch failure from an in-game trigger.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

If the game will not launch

Digital download

Confirm that the Tormented Souls 2 icon appears on the HOME Menu and that the console is signed in to the account that obtained it. Highlight the icon and use Software Update > Via the Internet; then run the corrupt-data check. If the title still returns to the HOME Menu, remove and redownload the software using the baseline procedure. A failed launch alone does not show whether the cause is an incomplete download, damaged data, a system state, or a game-specific defect.

  • Multiple Capacity Options – Available in 256GB, 512GB and 1TB options to suit your storage needs. Note that actual usable storage may be slightly less due to system formatting and a portion reserved for card management functions, which is a standard industry practice to ensure optimal performance and reliability.

Check whether other downloaded games start normally. This is not a diagnosis, but it helps describe the scope of the problem: Tormented Souls 2 alone, all software on the console, or titles installed on one storage device. Do not change several settings at once; complete one check, test, and record the result.

Physical game card or key-card edition

PQube has announced a physical Switch 2 edition, but its announcement does not document a particular launch fault or a special installation procedure. Confirm that you have the Switch 2 edition described on the packaging, power down as directed by Nintendo, and seat the game card or key card exactly as the package instructs. If the icon is not recognized, record the edition, the console’s system version, and the behavior shown on the HOME Menu before contacting support.

Do not download a second copy or buy a different edition solely because the first launch failed. First complete the update and data checks, then establish whether the failure follows the software, the storage location, or the physical media. If the console recognizes another compatible game card but not Tormented Souls 2, include that comparison in your support report rather than repeatedly reinserting the card.

Test internal storage versus microSD Express

Switch 2 supports microSD Express cards, but the card is optional. Nintendo’s general freezing guidance recommends testing downloaded software without removable storage or installing it to system memory when a card may be involved. This is a diagnostic comparison, not a confirmed Tormented Souls 2 fix.

  1. Check where Tormented Souls 2 is installed in the console’s data-management settings.
  2. If it is on a microSD Express card, shut down the console and remove or disable the card according to Nintendo’s instructions.
  3. Install or redownload the game to system memory, leaving sufficient free space. Nintendo’s regional store pages do not establish one universal download-size figure, so use the requirement shown for your region.
  4. Launch from system memory and repeat the action that previously failed.
  5. If the problem disappears only in system memory, record the card model, installation location, and result for support rather than treating the card test as proof of a game bug.

Conversely, a failure in both locations points away from a simple removable-storage path, but it still does not identify the underlying cause. Do not remove a microSD Express card while the console is running; power down and follow Nintendo’s handling instructions. The card is an optional storage purchase, not a guaranteed remedy, so buy one only if you need additional capacity or want to perform this comparison.

Understand the patch situation

PQube’s 18 June 2026 patch announcement says the latest update was available on Steam, Epic Games Store, GOG.com, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, bringing the console versions to PC patch 1.5.0.12. The notice’s explicit platform list does not include the Switch 2 build, despite the page title referring to all platforms. Therefore, do not assume that patch 1.5.0.12 is installed on Switch 2 or that it fixes a Switch 2 crash.

Check free space without guessing a download size

Nintendo’s store listing advises leaving enough free space for downloads, while regional listings can state different sizes. Do not rely on a size copied from another country’s storefront. Open the Switch 2 data-management screen, review available system and microSD Express capacity, and make room before beginning a redownload. If the download stops, restarts, or completes with a corrupt-data warning, note the available space and storage location.

When testing storage, change only the installation location where possible. Moving the game and updating the system simultaneously makes the result harder to interpret. After a successful redownload, confirm that the displayed software version is current, then reproduce the original failure before drawing conclusions.

When to contact Nintendo or PQube

Contact support after the relevant baseline and storage test fail, or immediately if the console repeatedly shows a serious system error. Send a concise reproducibility report containing:

  • The exact text and number of any software error.
  • Where the failure occurs: launch, loading screen, menu, cutscene, or gameplay.
  • Whether the failure is a freeze, a return to HOME, or a complete power-button lockup.
  • Tormented Souls 2’s displayed software version and the Switch 2 system-software version.
  • Digital or physical/key-card edition, purchase region, and—if digital—the installation location.
  • Whether the game was tested in system memory and on a microSD Express card.
  • The date and time of each attempt, the save or scene involved, and which Nintendo steps were completed.

Use Nintendo for console, system-software, account, storage, or error-message issues. Use PQube’s official channels for a reproducible problem that remains after the console and software checks. Do not promise a particular response or resolution; support may need the regional edition, logs, screenshots, or additional testing.

Mistakes that make diagnosis harder

  • Calling it a confirmed bug too early: no Switch 2-specific crash or freeze had been verified in the information checked before the listed launch date.
  • Installing a patch from another platform manually: the PC identifier 1.5.0.12 does not establish Switch 2 compatibility.
  • Deleting saved data with the software: read the menu choice carefully and remove only the game software when redownloading.
  • Changing several variables at once: if you update, move storage, and replace the installation simultaneously, you cannot tell which step changed the result. Test after each completed action.
  • Removing a microSD Express card while powered on: shut down and follow Nintendo’s handling instructions.
  • Using a regional download-size claim: storefront requirements can differ by region; check the listing attached to your account.
  • Confusing titles: report Tormented Souls 2 for Switch 2 specifically, not the earlier game or another horror title.
  • Repeating a forced shutdown indefinitely: once the console restarts, move to updates, data verification, and storage testing instead of cycling power.

Practical stop points

Use this order to decide what to do next:

  1. If a normal restart restores play, continue playing and keep the error details in case it returns.
  2. If the problem remains, complete both system and game updates before testing again.
  3. If corrupt data is reported, follow the console’s repair or redownload instruction.
  4. If the title fails from a microSD Express card, test a system-memory installation.
  5. If the same error or freeze persists in both storage locations after a clean redownload, stop cycling through resets and send support the complete reproduction report.

The best-supported action today is therefore a disciplined Nintendo troubleshooting sequence, not a claim that Tormented Souls 2 has a confirmed Switch 2 defect. Check the Nintendo listing and PQube notices again after 15 October 2026 for release-specific fixes or compatibility information.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Tormented Souls 2 known to crash on Switch 2?

No Switch 2-specific crash, freeze, launch defect, or verified fix was documented in the information checked on 13 October 2026. Nintendo lists the release date as 15 October 2026, so use the general troubleshooting steps and check later Nintendo or PQube notices for confirmed post-launch information.

What should I do first when Tormented Souls 2 freezes?

If the HOME button still works, close the game and choose Power Options > Restart. If the console is completely unresponsive, hold POWER for 12 seconds to force it off, then restart and run the system-update, game-update, corrupt-data, and redownload checks.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Will deleting and redownloading erase my save?

Use the software-management option that removes only the game software. Read each confirmation screen carefully and do not select an option that deletes saved data unless you intentionally want to erase it.

Can a microSD Express card cause the problem?

Nintendo recommends testing downloaded software without removable storage or installing it to system memory when a card may be involved. This is a diagnostic comparison, not proof that Tormented Souls 2 has a card-related bug or that buying a card will fix crashes.

Does PC patch 1.5.0.12 fix the Switch 2 version?

It has not been established. PQube’s 18 June 2026 announcement lists Steam, Epic Games Store, GOG.com, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, but not the Switch 2 build. Check the Switch 2 HOME Menu for its own available update.

What information should I send support?

Provide the exact error text or code, where the failure occurs, the game and system versions, digital or physical edition, purchase region, storage location, whether system memory was tested, the affected save or scene, and which troubleshooting steps were completed.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What if the physical game card is not recognized?

Confirm that it is the Switch 2 edition, power down as directed by Nintendo, and reseat the card according to the package instructions. Record the edition, system version, and HOME Menu behavior before contacting support.

The Bottom Line

Restart first, update the Switch 2 and the game, check for corrupt data, then redownload if needed. Test system memory against microSD Express storage, preserve the exact error and reproduction steps, and contact Nintendo or PQube if the problem survives a clean installation. No Switch 2-specific Tormented Souls 2 defect was confirmed as of 13 October 2026.
