If the next objective in Disney Dreamlight Valley’s Rescue Mission quest is missing, the quest usually has not registered the previous interaction, item check, companion state, or delivery. Open the active quest tracker, read its complete remaining text, and finish the objective exactly as written before treating the quest as stuck.
Rescue Mission is the fourth quest in the six-week Oogie Boogie event sequence. It unlocked on October 14, 2026, after The Ghost in the Portrait and the related mailbox message. If that prerequisite or event release has not reached your account, no subsequent objective will appear.

Why Rescue Mission can look stuck
The quest advances through a fixed sequence. The game does not show the next marker until the current interaction, item requirement, companion state, crafting result, or delivery has registered. Finding an object without interacting with it, talking to Zero without equipping him, or crafting only one of the required sprays can therefore make progression appear frozen.
Availability is also controlled by the limited-time Oogie Boogie event. The Dreamlight Valley Wiki lists Rescue Mission as the fourth quest in a six-week sequence, released on October 14, 2026. You must first complete The Ghost in the Portrait and receive the mailbox message that starts this quest. Event timing can change with the live event state, so a missing quest before its release window is not a progression bug.

Follow the complete objective order
Use the quest tracker as the authority for the state you are currently on. Work through these objectives in order; do not skip ahead to a later character or item.
1. Visit Oogie Boogie in the Mirror Lair
Enter the Mirror Lair and talk to Oogie Boogie. The conversation is the opening trigger for the mission. If the tracker still points to this step, returning to the lair and completing the conversation is more useful than searching the valley for a new marker.
2. Investigate five unusual decorations
Search the lair for five decorations that look unusual and interact with each one. The walkthroughs describe these as fake green furniture items. Merely spotting them does not count; each of the five must produce an interaction and register in the tracker.
3. Confront Oogie Boogie about the Ghosties
After all five decorations are registered, speak with Oogie Boogie and select the conversation that confronts him about the Ghosties in the glowing decor. If the objective does not change, return to each suspicious decoration and check whether one interaction was missed.
4. Talk to Merlin
Find Merlin and complete the requested conversation. The next state is not triggered by simply approaching him; finish the dialogue while Rescue Mission is the selected quest.

5. Equip Zero as the active companion
Use the companion-selection interface to equip Zero as your active companion. Speaking to Zero, standing near him, or having him available in your collection is not the same as equipping him. The tracker should recognize Zero’s active companion status before the next objective appears.
6. Distract Oogie Boogie
With Zero equipped, return to Oogie Boogie and talk to him to distract him. If the game still shows the companion objective, leave the conversation, confirm Zero is active in the companion selector, and try the interaction again.

7. Pick up the paper or diary Zero dropped
Look for the paper or diary that Zero dropped in the lair and interact with it. This is a pickup objective, not a conversation. If the marker remains, search the immediate lair area for the interact prompt and verify that the item has entered your inventory or that the tracker has advanced.
8. Fish in the lava pond
Use the Royal Fishing Rod at the lava pond until you obtain both required catches: one Lava Core and one Skeleton Fish. The objective is complete only when you have one of each, so catching one item does not advance the quest by itself.
9. Ask Goofy for a fragrant, perfectly tended flower
Talk to Goofy and complete the flower request. The walkthrough identifies the requested flower as a Dandelion. If the tracker uses the more general wording “fragrant, perfectly tended flower,” follow the quest text and Goofy’s dialogue rather than substituting an unrelated flower from your inventory.

10. Gather 10 Dream Shards
Collect the full quantity shown by the tracker: 10 Dream Shards. Partial progress is not the same as completion. Once the tenth shard is counted, reopen the tracker to confirm that the collection state has changed before moving to the crafting station.
11. Craft two Extra-Strength Bug Sprays
At a crafting station, select the Oogie Boogie quest recipe and make two Extra-Strength Bug Sprays. Use the quest recipe rather than a similarly named item. Both sprays must exist in your inventory for the delivery objectives to register.
12. Deliver the sprays separately
Give one spray to Merlin and one to Scrooge McDuck. These are separate deliveries. Handing over one spray does not satisfy both characters, and the quest can remain on the delivery state until each recipient has accepted one.
13. Confront Oogie Boogie with Merlin and Scrooge
After both deliveries register, return to Oogie Boogie with Merlin and Scrooge McDuck for the final confrontation. This conversation completes Rescue Mission and is the last objective in the documented sequence.

Confirm the quest and prerequisite
- Select Rescue Mission as the active quest rather than another event or character quest.
- Confirm that The Ghost in the Portrait is complete.
- Check the mailbox and make sure the message that unlocks Rescue Mission was received.
- If the event has not reached the release window on your account, wait for the scheduled event state instead of trying to trigger later objectives manually.
Read the entire tracker entry
Open the active quest tracker and read the full remaining objective, including its quantity or recipient. A short marker on the map can be misleading: the actual unfinished requirement may be an interaction, a pickup, a companion state, or a delivery that is not obvious from the map icon.
Check the required inventory and equipment

Do not discard, sell, or move quest items out of reach while the related state is active. Keeping both sprays in your inventory until Merlin and Scrooge have each accepted one avoids an unregistered delivery.
Recheck interaction counts
If progression stopped around the beginning of the mission, revisit the five suspicious decorations in the Mirror Lair and interact with each one again. The game requires five registered interactions. A decoration that looked unusual but never displayed an interaction prompt may not have counted.
Recheck the companion state
When the tracker says to equip Zero, open the companion selector and make Zero the active companion. Then return to the distraction objective and talk to Oogie Boogie. This resolves the common mistake of treating a conversation with Zero as equivalent to equipping him.

At the crafting station, verify that the recipe produced two separate sprays. Then deliver them one at a time: first to Merlin and then to Scrooge McDuck, or in the order shown by the tracker. Wait for each delivery confirmation before leaving the character.

Restart once, but treat it as an unconfirmed workaround
If every objective shown in the tracker is complete and no new state appears, fully close the game and restart it once. A restart has been reported anecdotally for a progression soft-lock involving another Oogie Boogie quest, but that report is not a developer-confirmed fix for Rescue Mission. It may refresh a delayed quest state, but it cannot be promised to work.
Document the exact state before contacting support
If restarting does not restore progression, submit an in-game Gameloft help or bug report. Include:
- Your platform.
- The quest name: Rescue Mission.
- The exact objective text currently displayed.
- Which interactions, items, companion state, crafting result, and deliveries you have completed.
- A screenshot or video showing the tracker and the missing next objective.
There is no confirmed developer fix established for a permanently missing Rescue Mission objective. A precise report gives support enough information to distinguish an unmet prerequisite from a genuine quest-state failure.

How to avoid losing track of the quest state
- After every conversation, pickup, catch, or delivery, reopen the tracker and confirm the wording changed.
- When a quantity is involved, wait until the full number is recorded before leaving the area.
- Keep both crafted sprays available until both deliveries are visibly accepted.
- Use the tracker’s named recipient, location, and quantity instead of relying only on map markers.
- Record a screenshot when the objective stops changing; the exact text is more useful to support than a description such as “the quest is stuck.”
Bottom line
Rescue Mission progresses only through its fixed chain: five unusual-decor interactions, the Zero companion state, the diary pickup, the two lava catches, Goofy’s flower request, 10 Dream Shards, two quest-recipe sprays, two separate deliveries, and the final Oogie Boogie confrontation. Check the tracker and each registration first. Restarting is only an anecdotal workaround; if the complete sequence is registered but the next objective never appears, report the exact state to in-game support.
