Switch the game to windowed or borderless windowed mode and test again: Discord’s revamped overlay does not appear over true fullscreen games. If it works in other games but not this one, the problem is likely specific to the game or its configuration.
1. Check whether your platform supports Game Overlay
Discord documents Game Overlay support for its desktop app on Windows 10 and Windows 11. It does not work on macOS or Linux, so changing overlay settings on those operating systems will not make it appear.

2. Enable the overlay globally and for the game
- Open Discord’s desktop app and select the cogwheel to open User Settings.
- Choose Overlay and turn on Enable Overlay.
- Check the affected game’s individual overlay setting. Overlay can be disabled for one game even while it is enabled globally.
If the overlay might be open but hidden, check the overlay keybind shown in your current Discord settings and try it while the game is running. Discord’s published instructions give conflicting defaults—Shift + backtick in one support article and Ctrl + backtick in a later blog post—so neither shortcut should be treated as universal. The keybind can reveal a hidden overlay, but it does not replace enabling the global and game-specific settings.

In the game’s video or display settings, switch from true fullscreen to Windowed or Borderless Windowed and test the overlay again. Discord’s revamped overlay supports windowed fullscreen and windowed borderless fullscreen, but not true fullscreen.

If you must use true fullscreen, check whether your Discord app still offers User Settings > Game Overlay > Enable legacy overlay. Discord has described this as a fallback that may be removed in the future, so it is not a guaranteed long-term option.
4. Find out whether the problem is limited to one game
Try the overlay in another game using the same Discord installation. If it appears there but not in the affected title, that points to a game-specific compatibility or configuration issue rather than a globally disabled overlay. Discord says support can vary by game; its cited guidance does not provide a definitive compatibility list, so a missing overlay in one title does not establish that the game is permanently unsupported.

5. Use System Helper only for an elevated-permissions keybind problem
If the game is running with elevated permissions and Discord keybinds—such as the overlay toggle—do not register, Discord System Helper may help. Discord describes it as an experimental feature available only to certain Windows desktop users. Install it only if Discord itself presents the prompt.
System Helper is for keybinds in elevated games; it is not documented as a universal fix for an overlay that will not render. Discord says that without the helper, keybinds may fail in elevated games while core Discord functionality remains unaffected.

6. Turn the overlay off if it makes the game unstable
If enabling Game Overlay causes lag, crashes, or other problems, Discord recommends disabling it for that specific game rather than leaving it on. If the game crashes with overlay enabled, Discord asks users to collect the hook log from the highest-numbered version folder at this path:

Submit a ticket to Discord Support with the game name, the issue, and the log. The placeholder in the path means the version directory whose number is highest on your computer.
What the rollout information does—and does not—tell you
Discord’s known-issue article says rollout of the revamped overlay began on April 15, 2024. In an update dated July 30, 2024, Discord reported availability to 100% of Canary and PTB users and said it had no ETA for complete Stable rollout at that time. That is a historical rollout update, not confirmation of Stable-channel availability in October 2026. If you do not see the legacy-overlay option or your interface differs, use the settings currently shown in your app.
