How to Change a PlayStation Account Date of Birth

You usually can’t directly edit the date of birth on a PlayStation account. Sony documents one correction route for an existing child account: a parent or guardian in the UK or Ireland can send a family request, which the child accepts by entering their date of birth. Sony does not document the same process for adult accounts or accounts registered elsewhere.

Can you change your date of birth on a PlayStation account?

Sony’s account-creation guide says the date of birth entered when creating an account “can’t be changed later.” That statement is not a universal edit feature. Sony does document a specific family-request process for an existing child account in the UK and Ireland.

Correct an existing child account in the UK or Ireland

This process adds the child’s existing account to a parent or guardian’s family. Both accounts must be registered in the same country or region, and Sony says the feature is currently available only in the UK and Ireland.

Parent or guardian: Sign in to Account Management and open Family Management > Add Family Member.
Choose the option indicating that the child already has an account. Enter the child account’s sign-in email and date of birth, review the account-setting changes, accept the terms, and send the family request.
Child: Sign in to Account Management, then open Family Management > Received Family Requests.
Select the request and enter the date of birth when prompted to accept it and join the family.

Sony describes this as correcting an existing child account’s date of birth through the family process, not as a general profile-edit option.

What changes when the child account joins the family?

Parental controls apply to the child account.
Sony says games and pre-orders the child previously purchased remain in the Game Library.
Payment methods, linked services, authorised apps, and some Sony group single sign-on connections can be affected. The effects depend on the child’s age and the local age of digital consent.

What if the account is adult or outside the UK and Ireland?

The documented child-account process does not apply based on the guidance available for adult accounts or accounts outside the UK and Ireland. Sony’s account-creation page says the date of birth cannot be changed later, and no alternate correction route is established for these cases. Ask PlayStation Support about your circumstances; support’s ability to make a correction is not confirmed.

Is upgrading a child account to an adult account the same as correcting a birthday?

No. Sony separately allows an eligible child account to be upgraded to an adult account through Account Management. The upgrade cannot be reversed, and it is an age-status change—not a documented way to correct an inaccurate date of birth. Do not use it as a birthday-correction workaround.
