How to Fix the C:WindowsSystem32LogiLDA.dll Startup Error

If Windows displays “There was a problem starting C:WindowsSystem32LogiLDA.dll. The specified module could not be found” when you sign in, the usual cause is a leftover startup entry for Logitech Download Assistant. Windows is trying to launch the assistant, but its LogiLDA.dll file is no longer where that entry expects it. This is normally a broken startup reference, not a missing core Windows component.

Start with the reversible fix: disable the Logitech Download Assistant entry in Task Manager, restart, and check whether the message has stopped. If it returns, remove the assistant and clean up its remaining service or registry entry. Do not download an individual DLL from a third-party repository.

What the LogiLDA.dll message means

LogiLDA.dll is associated with Logitech Download Assistant. The assistant can be configured to start automatically when Windows signs in. If the assistant was removed, partially updated, moved, or replaced by newer Logitech software, Windows may retain the instruction to launch it even though the DLL is gone.

That mismatch produces a startup message mentioning C:WindowsSystem32LogiLDA.dll and “The specified module could not be found.” The path in the message describes where Windows tried to load the module; it does not prove that the file should be restored to that folder.

Logitech M510 Full Size Ambidextrous 2.4 GHz Wireless Mouse | 2.4 GHz USB-A Nano Receiver, tilt-to-scroll function, 2-year battery life, Windows Mac Linux compatible, certified for Chrome
  • Your hand can relax in comfort hour after hour with this ergonomically designed mouse. Its contoured shape with soft rubber grips, gently curved sides and broad palm area give you the support you need for effortless control all day long.
  • You’ve got the control to do more, faster. Flipping through photo albums and Web pages is a breeze, especially for right-handers—with three standard buttons plus Back/Forward buttons that you can also program to switch applications, go full screen and more. And side-to-side scrolling plus zoom gives you the power to scroll horizontally and vertically through your music library, maps and Facebook feeds, and zoom in and out of photos and budget spreadsheets with a click.* * Requires Logitech SetPoint software (Windows) or Logitech Control Center software (Mac OS X)
  • Two years of battery life practically eliminates the need to replace batteries. ** The On/Off switch helps conserve power, smart sleep mode extends battery life and an indicator light eliminates surprises. ** Battery life may vary based on user and computing conditions.
  • The tiny Logitech Unifying receiver stays in your laptop. There’s no need to unplug it when you move around, so there’s less worry of it being lost. And you can easily add compatible wireless mice and keyboards to the same wireless receiver.

Microsoft Q&A troubleshooting guidance identifies Logitech Download Assistant as the usual source and recommends disabling or removing its startup reference. The basic Logitech mouse or keyboard can continue to work without this particular assistant. Extra functions may still depend on current Logitech software, so remove the assistant only after considering whether you need software-managed features.

Is LogiLDA.dll a Windows file, and is the error dangerous?

No. The startup item belongs to Logitech Download Assistant rather than to the Windows operating system itself. A missing-file message alone is not evidence that Windows is damaged or that your computer is infected. It means an automatic launch instruction points to a file that is unavailable.

The safest response is to remove the stale launch instruction, not to copy a DLL downloaded from an unknown site. An isolated DLL can be the wrong version, bundled with unwanted software, or unrelated to the Logitech program that requested it. If you still need Logitech software, obtain the current release from Logitech’s official support and downloads portal.

Before changing anything

  • Save open work. You will need to restart Windows to test the change.
  • Note whether the message appears only at sign-in or also when you open a Logitech utility. That distinction helps separate a startup reference from a currently used program.
  • If you plan to edit the registry, create an export backup first. Registry changes should be limited to the exact Logitech value that produces the message.
  • Have your Windows administrator account available. Disabling a startup item usually does not require elevated rights, while uninstalling software or changing some service and registry entries may.

Fix 1: Disable Logitech Download Assistant in Task Manager

Disabling the startup item is the recommended first step because it is easy to reverse and does not remove other Logitech software.

  1. Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager. If the compact view appears, select More details.
  2. Open Startup apps. On some Windows versions this area is labeled Startup.
  3. Look for Logitech Download Assistant, LogiDA, or a similarly named LogiLDA entry. Check the publisher or command details when several Logitech items are listed.
  4. Right-click the matching entry and choose Disable. Do not disable unrelated Logitech items merely because they contain the Logitech name.
  5. Close Task Manager and restart Windows.

After signing in, wait through a normal desktop startup. If the message no longer appears, the stale startup entry was the trigger. You can leave it disabled, or later install supported Logitech software and decide whether a new startup component is necessary.

If the entry is already disabled

An entry can be disabled in Task Manager while another copy remains in a service, an uninstall record, or the registry. Do not repeatedly toggle the same disabled entry. Continue with the uninstall and residual-entry checks below.

Fix 2: Uninstall Logitech Download Assistant

Use this step when disabling the entry did not stop the message, or when you no longer use the assistant. Removing the assistant addresses the program as well as its normal startup registration.

Windows Settings

  1. Open Settings.

  5. Restart Windows and test the sign-in message again.

Classic Programs and Features

If the assistant is not shown in Settings, open the classic Control Panel, choose Programs > Programs and Features, select Logitech Download Assistant, and choose Uninstall. Restart after the removal completes.

Do not remove a different Logitech application simply because its name is similar. If you rely on a Logitech utility for device-specific functions, keep that utility and remove only the Download Assistant entry that is associated with the missing DLL.

Fix 3: Check for a remaining Logitech service with System Configuration

A service can relaunch a component even after the visible startup entry has been disabled. Microsoft troubleshooting guidance recommends checking System Configuration after hiding Microsoft services.

  1. Press Windows + R, type msconfig, and press Enter.
  2. Open the Services tab.
  3. Enable Hide all Microsoft services. This prevents you from accidentally changing core Microsoft services while looking for the Logitech entry.
  4. Review the remaining list for Logitech Download Assistant, LogiDA, or a clearly matching LogiLDA service.
  5. If the service is present and you have already uninstalled the assistant, clear its check box, select Apply, then OK, and restart Windows.

If you are unsure whether a service belongs to the assistant, leave it unchanged and use the publisher or service description to identify it. Changing an unrelated service can affect another Logitech application or a different device function.

Fix 4: Remove the residual Run entry from the registry

Use registry cleanup only after the reversible startup and uninstall steps. A Run entry can continue calling the missing DLL even when the assistant itself is gone.

  • Laser grade tracking delivers smooth, responsive, precise cursor control on surfaces that cause problems for standard optical mice, such as polished or wood-grain tables.***

Back up the relevant key first

  1. Press Windows + R, type regedit, and press Enter.
  2. If Windows asks for permission, choose Yes.
  3. In Registry Editor, navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionRun.
  4. With the Run key selected, choose File > Export. Save the backup somewhere you can find later, such as your Documents folder, and give it a descriptive name.

Identify and remove only the matching value

  1. In the right pane, look for a value named Logitech Download Assistant, LogiDA, or another value whose command points to LogiLDA.dll.
  2. Double-check the value name and its command. Do not delete a value merely because it contains a generic Logitech reference.
  3. Right-click the confirmed stale value and choose Delete. Confirm the deletion.
  4. Close Registry Editor and restart Windows.

If the error disappears after this restart, the Run entry was the remaining trigger. If you removed the wrong value or another startup behavior changes, double-click the exported .reg backup to restore the key, then restart and reassess.

Fix 5: Keep or reinstall only the Logitech software you actually need

The startup assistant is separate from the basic operation of a Logitech mouse or keyboard. Many devices work without Download Assistant, while advanced functions may require current Logitech software. Examples include vendor-managed button assignments, profiles, updates, or other device-specific settings; the exact requirements depend on the model.

If a feature stopped working after you removed the assistant, use Logitech’s official support and downloads portal to identify the current software for your device. Install only software intended for your Windows edition and device model. Avoid restoring the old standalone LogiLDA.dll file or using a third-party DLL repository as a substitute for supported software.

After installing current Logitech software, restart Windows and check both the device function and the startup list. A current application may use a different name or startup component. The presence of a new Logitech entry is not, by itself, proof that the old missing-DLL error has returned; verify the actual command and the message shown at sign-in.

When the message still appears

Confirm that the exact wording is the same

Read the dialog carefully. The LogiLDA problem specifically references LogiLDA.dll and usually appears as a startup or RunDLL-style message. A different DLL name indicates a different startup item and needs separate identification.

Repeat the startup and service checks

Check Task Manager’s Startup apps list again, then review msconfig with Microsoft services hidden. A program update or repair can recreate an entry, so the list after a restart is more useful than the list before one.

Check the Run key again

Return to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionRun and verify that the confirmed Logitech Download Assistant value is gone. Do not broaden the cleanup to unrelated values or other registry locations without a specific matching entry.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Consider another user account or startup context

The documented registry path is machine-wide, but Windows can also retain startup configuration in other contexts. If the message appears for only one Windows account, compare the behavior with another account and inspect that account’s enabled startup items before making additional changes. Avoid deleting unknown entries simply to make the dialog disappear.

What each fix changes

Action Reversibility What it addresses When to use it
Disable the Task Manager startup item High; enable it again later Stops the assistant from launching at sign-in First choice for a safe test
Uninstall Logitech Download Assistant Reinstall required to restore the assistant Removes the assistant and its normal installation When you no longer need it or disabling is insufficient
Disable its service in System Configuration High; recheck the service later Prevents a remaining service from launching it When a service entry persists after uninstall or startup cleanup
Delete the confirmed Run value Restorable from a registry export Removes a residual registry launch command Last manual cleanup step after backup and identification
Install current Logitech software Depends on the software package Restores device features that require vendor software When a device feature is genuinely needed

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Downloading a random DLL: The recommended fix is to remove the stale startup reference, not to replace one file from an unverified repository.
  • Deleting every Logitech entry: A mouse or keyboard may use other Logitech software. Target only the Download Assistant or LogiLDA entry tied to the error.
  • Editing the registry first: Disabling the startup item gives you a reversible test. Registry deletion should follow a backup and exact identification.
  • Ignoring the restart: Startup changes are not fully tested until Windows has signed in again.
  • Assuming the device is broken: The error concerns an assistant’s launch instruction. It does not automatically mean the physical mouse or keyboard has failed.
  • Restoring an old assistant unnecessarily: If your device works without it, leaving the obsolete assistant removed avoids recreating the same missing-file reference.

How to verify that the problem is fixed

  1. Restart Windows after the last change.
  2. Sign in normally and wait for the desktop to finish loading.
  3. Confirm that no dialog references C:WindowsSystem32LogiLDA.dll.
  4. Open Task Manager and verify that the old Logitech Download Assistant entry is disabled or absent.
  5. If you uninstalled the assistant, confirm it is no longer listed in Installed apps or Programs and Features.
  6. Test the Logitech device and any features you depend on. If a feature is missing, install the current model-specific Logitech software rather than the old DLL alone.
