If The Crew Motorfest will not download, pauses at the same point, freezes after installation, or loses online access on Nintendo Switch 2, use the least destructive fix that matches the symptom. Close software that is running, resume the download, restart the console, update the system and game, and scan for corrupted data before deleting anything or formatting a microSD Express card.
Motorfest needs an internet connection to play, so a completed installation and a working online session are separate milestones. The Switch 2 troubleshooting steps below are Nintendo’s general downloaded-software guidance; the available official material does not establish a widespread Motorfest-specific Switch 2 defect or a universal error-code fix.

Identify the failure before changing anything
First decide whether the problem is a download that is paused or slow, software that installed but will not run, a possible storage-card fault, or an online-service connection problem. Those symptoms overlap, but they call for different actions. Starting with deletion or card formatting can turn a temporary pause into a long redownload and can erase unrelated files.

| What you see | Most appropriate path | Start here | Leave until last |
|---|---|---|---|
| The download has not started, is paused, or appears stuck | Download-progress and connection checks | Close the running game, then use the user-page download command | Delete and redownload |
| The game installed but freezes, will not respond, or will not update | Downloaded-software troubleshooting | Restart, update Switch 2 and Motorfest, then scan for corrupted data | Delete and redownload |
| The problem appears only with a microSD Express card | Storage isolation | Try system memory or another compatible card | Format the card, after backing up files |
| The game launches but online play or services fail | Connectivity troubleshooting | Test the console connection and follow Motorfest’s connectivity guidance | Assuming a reinstall will fix an outage or sign-in failure |
Do not treat a slow progress bar by itself as proof that Motorfest’s servers or the Switch 2 version are defective. Nintendo’s instructions apply to downloaded Switch 2 software generally, while Ubisoft’s connection guidance covers Motorfest’s online services.

What the Switch 2 release requires
Ubisoft announced a Nintendo Switch 2 launch date of October 8, 2026, with both a physical retail edition and a digital Nintendo eShop edition. The physical edition is described as a Game-Key Card: the card authorizes the software, but the game still needs a download before it can be installed. A physical package therefore does not guarantee an install that works entirely offline.
Ubisoft’s release information also states that a Ubisoft Account is required and that an online connection is required to play the game. The Game-Key Card and account details came from a regional Ubisoft release listing; check the current product page for your country because packaging, account wording, and availability can vary by region. The online-play requirement is the important troubleshooting boundary: an installation can complete successfully while sign-in, service authentication, or online gameplay still fails.
Do these reversible checks first
- Save any progress in software that is currently open.
- Return to HOME and check whether another game or application is running. Nintendo says downloads can pause for some software that is being played.
- Confirm that the console is connected to the internet and run its built-in connection test if progress is slow or repeatedly stops.
- Check available space in Data Management before starting a large download. Do not assume that a physical Game-Key Card contains all install data.
- Keep the console powered and connected while you test a resume or update. Avoid repeatedly launching the game during the download.
These checks do not erase software, save data, screenshots, or videos. If they change the symptom, continue with the matching section rather than jumping to a more destructive measure.
“Download of Software or Update Data is Stuck or Will Not Progress”
Close software that may be pausing the download
- From HOME, highlight the running game or application.
- Press X to close it and confirm the prompt.
- Leave the console at HOME long enough for the download to resume.
Nintendo’s wording is specific: “Downloads will pause for some games and software that is currently being played.” A paused download can therefore be normal console behavior rather than a failed Motorfest installation.
Use Update Download Progress
- Open the user page from HOME.
- Choose User Settings.
- Select Update Download Progress.
This asks Switch 2 to check the pending download again. If the progress bar moves, allow it to finish before opening Motorfest. If it remains unchanged, continue with the connection and restart checks below.

Restart and reconnect
- Use the console’s Power menu to choose Restart.
- After the HOME screen returns, wait for the internet connection to re-establish.
- Check the download status before launching any software that could pause it.
A restart is useful when the queue or network session has stopped responding. It is not evidence that the title itself is corrupt. If the console’s connection test reports a problem or other downloads are also slow, address the network connection rather than repeatedly reinstalling Motorfest.
When a slow download is different from a paused download
A progress bar that advances slowly is still making progress. Test the Switch 2 connection, reduce competing traffic on your network if you control it, and leave the console connected until the transfer completes. Nintendo’s general guidance does not publish a Motorfest-specific speed threshold or download-size estimate, so do not infer a failure from an expected completion time found elsewhere.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsIf the console connects normally but only Motorfest refuses to advance after closing software, updating progress, and restarting, record what the bar does and move to the downloaded-software checks. Persistent service-side connection trouble should also be checked against Ubisoft’s Motorfest connectivity guidance.
“General Problems with Downloaded Software for Nintendo Switch 2 (Freezing, Not Responding, etc.)”
Restart before checking data
If Motorfest has installed but freezes at launch, stops responding, or crashes during use, restart the Switch 2 first. A restart clears a temporary software state without removing the title. After the console returns to HOME, try the game once before making further changes.
Bring the console and game up to date
Nintendo recommends checking both system software and the affected game. Connect the console to the internet, then:

- Highlight Motorfest on HOME without starting it.
- Press + or −.
- Choose Software Update.
- Select Via the Internet.
Allow the update to finish, then start the game. Also install any pending Switch 2 system update through the console’s System Settings. A title update and a system update are separate checks; completing one does not prove that the other is current.

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Scan for corrupted data
- Open System Settings.
- Choose Data Management.
- Select Manage Software.
- Choose Motorfest.
- Select Scan for Corrupted Data.
Let the scan complete before launching the game again. This step is preferable to immediate deletion because it checks the installed files without forcing a full redownload. If the scan reports a problem, follow the console’s repair or redownload prompt and test the game afterward.
Delete and redownload only after the checks fail
Nintendo’s general downloaded-software guidance places deletion and redownload after restarting, updating, and scanning for corruption. Use it when Motorfest still freezes or will not update and the earlier steps produced no change. Deleting software means downloading the game again, which can take substantially longer than a corruption scan and requires a stable connection.
- Open the Switch 2 Data Management controls for installed software.
- Select Motorfest and choose the delete option shown by the console.
- Confirm the deletion, then return to HOME or the eShop library and start the download again.
- Keep the console connected until the complete install and any subsequent update finish.
- Launch the game only after the redownload and update queue report completion.
Read every confirmation screen. Nintendo’s support information states that save data is stored in system memory, while downloaded software can be managed separately; do not confuse deleting the software with erasing a storage card. If you rely on a particular account or backup arrangement, verify it before confirming any deletion.
Do not buy another copy as a troubleshooting step. A second physical package would still use the same Switch 2 platform process, and a Game-Key Card still requires its installation download.

When a microSD Express card may be involved
Nintendo lists a separate storage path for downloaded-software problems that occur while a microSD Express card is being used. The card is a conditional suspect, not a proven Motorfest requirement and not a guaranteed cause of a failed install. Isolate it in the least destructive order.
Try system memory first
Remove the microSD Express card according to Nintendo’s handling instructions, then download Motorfest to the Switch 2’s system memory. This is the cleanest way to see whether the card or its data is involved. If the game installs and runs from system memory, the earlier failure was associated with the card path, although that does not identify the exact card fault.
Try a different microSD Express card
If you need expansion storage, Nintendo also lists trying another microSD Express card. Use a card that the Switch 2 recognizes as compatible and test the installation before moving other data. A successful test on another card points toward the original card or its contents, but it does not establish that every card of the same capacity will behave the same way.
Format only as a last resort
Formatting erases the card’s data. Back up screenshots and videos first, then use the Switch 2 formatting command only if system memory and another compatible card are not practical or have not resolved the problem. Do not format a card merely because a download is slow, and do not format before trying the system-memory option.

One-click scans. No signup required.
Because the card-format operation is destructive, check the destination of your screenshots, videos, and other files before proceeding. Save data is stored in system memory according to Nintendo’s guidance, but card formatting still removes the card’s own contents and requires those files to be restored from a backup if you need them.

If Motorfest installs but online services do not work
Installation and online access are separate stages. Ubisoft states that an online connection is required to play Motorfest. If the game reaches its menus but cannot sign in, load online activities, or maintain a service connection, a successful reinstall is not by itself a solution.
Separate console connectivity from game-service connectivity
- If the Switch 2 connection test fails or other online software is affected, troubleshoot the console’s internet connection first.
- If the console connects normally but Motorfest alone reports a service or sign-in problem, follow Ubisoft’s guide titled “Troubleshooting connectivity issues in The Crew Motorfest.”
- Check that the Ubisoft Account required by the release information is available and that you are using the intended account.
- If the problem persists after the connection steps, contact Ubisoft support with the exact message, when it appears, and whether other Switch 2 online functions work.
Do not promise offline play after an installation succeeds. The published requirement is an online connection to play, so an offline launch limitation can be an intentional requirement rather than a damaged download.
A practical decision sequence
Use this order when you are unsure which symptom you have:
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →- Pause or no progress: close the running software, open the user page, choose User Settings, and select Update Download Progress.
- Still stalled: restart the console, reconnect, and run the built-in connection test. Leave the console at HOME while the download resumes.
- Installed but freezing: restart, check Switch 2 system software, update Motorfest through Software Update > Via the Internet, and scan for corrupted data.
- Storage suspicion: if a microSD Express card is involved, download to system memory or test another compatible card before considering a format.
- No change: delete Motorfest and redownload it, understanding that the complete installation must be transferred again.
- Online-only failure: treat sign-in and service errors as connectivity problems, follow Ubisoft’s Motorfest guidance, and escalate to Ubisoft when the published steps do not help.
This sequence preserves the reversible options and keeps a card format from being used as a first response to an ordinary paused download.
What not to conclude from the symptom
- A physical copy is not automatically an offline install: the Switch 2 physical release is a Game-Key Card that requires a download.
- A stalled progress bar is not proof of a Motorfest-specific server bug; Nintendo documents downloads pausing while software is played.
- A completed download is not proof that online play will work; Ubisoft requires an internet connection and a Ubisoft Account.
- A microSD Express card is not established as a required accessory or a guaranteed fix. System memory is Nintendo’s first alternative in that storage path.
- There is no confirmed universal Switch 2 Motorfest error-code remedy in the available official guidance. Use the symptom-based platform steps instead of applying an unrelated code fix.
What to record before contacting support
If the ordered steps fail, make the report useful without repeatedly deleting the game. Note whether the copy is physical Game-Key Card or digital, whether the download is paused or merely slow, whether another application was open, whether the console connection test passed, whether Motorfest was installed to system memory or a microSD Express card, and which update or corruption-scan step completed. Include the exact on-screen wording and the point at which the failure occurs.
For an online-service case, also state whether the game reaches its menus, whether other Switch 2 online functions work, and whether the Ubisoft Account sign-in succeeds. Nintendo is the appropriate escalation for platform, storage, download, and corrupted-software behavior; Ubisoft is the appropriate escalation for Motorfest account or service connectivity that remains after the console connection is working.
