Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →On Windows, start by tuning ClearType on the OLED monitor where you see the colored edges: search for “ClearType,” open “Adjust ClearType text,” and choose the samples that look clearest. This can improve the result, but it is not a universal fix. Fringing can remain visible because OLED pixel density and subpixel layout affect how text appears, and people may notice it differently.
First, check what you are seeing
Text fringing usually appears as colored edging around the strokes of letters, rather than as a uniformly blurred image. It can be distracting without meaning that the monitor is damaged. If you are troubleshooting or asking for help, note the monitor model, resolution, operating system, and display-scaling setting; those details help distinguish a display-specific rendering issue from a broader image-quality problem.

Tune ClearType on the monitor you use
- In Windows, open Start or Search and type ClearType.
- Select Adjust ClearType text from the results.
- Follow the tuner and select the text samples that look clearest to you on this monitor.
- After tuning, read text in the applications you normally use and at your usual viewing distance. Judge the everyday result, not only a magnified view or screenshot.
The first choices in the tuner are based on RGB and BGR subpixel assumptions; they do not directly cover every OLED subpixel arrangement. Treat the process as a way to find the best-looking available setting for your display, not as a precise profile for every panel. The same setting can also look different to different viewers. RTINGS explains ClearType tuning and OLED subpixel-layout considerations.
If fringing remains, consider the panel and pixel density
There may be no Windows setting that removes the effect completely. Pixel density and the panel’s subpixel arrangement influence how conspicuous colored edges are. RTINGS notes that higher pixel density can make OLED text fringing less visible, while some people do not notice it during ordinary use even on a monitor with a triangular subpixel layout. There is no numeric pixel-density threshold in the cited guidance that guarantees a clean result.
#1 Best Overall
- Samsung’s 27” Odyssey OLED G6 Gaming Monitor is engineered for perfection with a QD-OLED Display featuring QHD resolution made to deliver high brightness and a wide range of colors for gameplay
- OLED Safeguard technology supports performance by actively helping to prevent burn-in with a thermal modulation system
- Glare Free Technology keeps screen clear of reflection from external light sources
- The Pantone Validated screen accurately reproduces 2100+ lifelike colors and 110+ skin tone shades
- HDR10 provides brighter highlights and nuanced shadows for added depth and more realistic scenes
If you are considering a replacement, compare resolution relative to screen size (pixel density), the stated subpixel layout, and any model-specific text-processing features. If possible, assess text at the distance you normally sit from the display; close-up imagery is not a substitute for that experience.
Manufacturer text-clarity features are not guarantees
ASUS describes the ROG Swift OLED PG27AQDP as using an RGWB subpixel layout and says its Clear Pixel Edge algorithm reduces green and red fringing on text and lines. Those are manufacturer-described design features, not independent evidence that fringing will disappear for every user. See ASUS’s PG27AQDP product page.

ASUS also says that fifth-generation QD-OLED panels used in ROG displays have an optimized RGB subpixel layout intended to enhance text clarity, while acknowledging that fine text on some QD-OLED models can show slight color fringing. That statement applies to the panel generation and ROG displays ASUS describes; it should not be generalized to every QD-OLED monitor. Read ASUS’s support FAQ. What to try next
- If you use Windows, tune ClearType first and assess the result in your regular apps at your normal viewing distance.
- If it still bothers you, treat it as a possible mismatch between your visual preference and the panel’s pixel density or subpixel layout—not automatically as a fault.
- If shopping for another monitor, compare pixel density and the manufacturer’s specific subpixel or text-rendering claims. No one feature guarantees the same result for every viewer.
