Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallStart with the least destructive fixes: update Supermarket Simulator and PS5 system software, confirm the installation is complete, move the game from USB extended storage to the internal SSD if necessary, and restart the console. Then test a new game without loading your existing save. If the new game works, the old save is a likely corruption point; back up your data before deleting anything. If the game still crashes after an update and reinstall, use PS5 Safe Mode to clear the cache and rebuild the database. A fault limited to Supermarket Simulator belongs with the game publisher; failures across several games belong with PlayStation Support or Repairs.
Use this order before you delete anything
The order matters because it moves from reversible, low-risk checks to steps that can affect local data. Do not begin with a factory reset or delete a save to solve a crash that may only be an incomplete installation or an outdated system.

| Step | What it tests or fixes | Data risk | What you need |
|---|---|---|---|
| Check updates and installation | Outdated software, an unfinished download, or a game running from USB extended storage | None | Internet access if an update is available |
| Restart and test a new game | Temporary system state and whether the existing save is the trigger | None while you leave the old save untouched | Nothing extra |
| Delete and reinstall the game | Damaged or incomplete game files | Your installed game is removed; saved data is separate, but back it up first | Time and enough storage for a fresh download |
| Safe Mode cache clearing and database rebuild | System cache or database problems that can contribute to freezes and loading failures | Cache clearing is described as preserving saves and progress; still back up before recovery work | A wired USB data cable for the DualSense |
| Contact support | A title-specific defect or a wider console/storage fault | None | Error details, reproduction steps, and screenshots or video if possible |
1. Check updates, installation status, and storage location
Update Supermarket Simulator
- Highlight Supermarket Simulator on the PS5 home screen.
- Press the Options button on the DualSense.
- Select Check for Update and install anything offered.
- Wait until the download and installation finish before launching the game.
Launching while a title is still downloading or copying can produce behavior that looks like a crash or missing content. Let every progress indicator complete, then start the game again from the home screen.
Update PS5 system software
On the console, open Settings > System > System Software > System Software Update and Settings. Install any available update and allow the PS5 to restart. Game updates and console updates are separate; checking one does not prove that the other is current.

Move the game off USB extended storage
PlayStation launch guidance recommends moving a game from USB extended storage to the PS5’s internal storage when launch problems occur. If Supermarket Simulator is on an external drive, use the storage management screen to move it to Console Storage, then launch it from there. Depending on the installed system version, the route is generally Settings > Storage > USB Extended Storage > Games and Apps, followed by selecting the game and the move command.
Do not unplug the drive while the move is in progress. If the game is already on the internal SSD, leave it there and continue to the restart test rather than moving it unnecessarily.
2. Restart the PS5 and isolate the save file
Perform a full restart
Close the game, choose the PS5 power menu, and select Restart PS5. A restart clears the current session without removing the installation or saved data. After the console returns to the home screen, try the same action that previously caused the crash: launching, loading a store, entering a busy area, or saving.

PlayStation specifically recommends beginning without an existing save to check whether the save is corrupted. At the game’s title screen, choose the option to start a new game rather than loading your established profile. You do not need to play far; the purpose is to see whether a fresh session can reach gameplay and save normally.
- New game works, old save fails: the old save is a likely corruption point. Do not delete it immediately. Back up saved data first, preserve the failing file for the publisher’s investigation, and use the new game only as a diagnostic result.
- New game also crashes or freezes: the installation, system software, storage device, or a title-wide bug is more likely than one save. Continue with reinstall and Safe Mode steps.
- The game never reaches the title screen: the save cannot be the first suspect. Finish update, storage, reinstall, and system checks before attempting save recovery.
Back up before any destructive action
Back up saved data before deleting a save, deleting the game, rebuilding the database, or resetting the console. Use the PS5 saved-data backup method available to you, such as a PlayStation Plus cloud upload or a USB backup, and verify that the backup completed. Keep the original local save until you have decided that recovery is impossible; deleting it removes your best evidence of what went wrong.

3. Reinstall Supermarket Simulator
When the game is fully updated but still crashes or freezes, PlayStation lists deletion and reinstallation as the next remedy for a digital game. This replaces the installed game files while leaving you a chance to protect saved data separately.
- Highlight Supermarket Simulator on the home screen.
- Press Options and select Delete. Confirm only the game application, not saved data, if the console presents separate choices.
- Open Game Library > Your Collection, select Supermarket Simulator, and choose Download. For a disc copy, insert the disc and let the PS5 copy the complete installation again.
- Wait for the main installation and any update to finish. Do not judge the result from a partially installed launch.
- Start the game before restoring an old save. Test a new game first, then test the backed-up save if the clean session is stable.
A reinstall is useful when files are damaged, but it cannot repair a corrupted save by itself. If a fresh installation crashes only when one old save is loaded, treat the two problems separately.

4. Clear the PS5 cache and rebuild its database in Safe Mode
Use Safe Mode only after backing up data and completing the ordinary restart, update, storage, and reinstall checks. Safe Mode is a recovery environment, not a game setting. The documented procedure requires a controller connected with a USB data cable; a charge-only cable may not work.
Enter Safe Mode
- Turn the PS5 completely off. Do not leave it in Rest Mode.
- Press and hold the console’s power button. Release it after the second beep, which occurs several seconds after the first.
- Connect the DualSense to the PS5 with a wired USB data cable and press the PS button.
- Use the Safe Mode menu to choose Clear Cache and Rebuild Database.
Clear the system software cache first
Choose Clear System Software Cache when that submenu appears, then allow the PS5 to restart. Cached files can become corrupted over time. Rockstar Games Support notes that such corruption can contribute to freezes, game-loading errors, and connectivity problems, and states that clearing the cache does not delete saved data or progress.
Rebuild the database if the problem remains
Return to Safe Mode and select Rebuild Database. The PS5 scans its storage and recreates the content index. The duration depends on how much data is stored. Do not power off the console during the scan. Database rebuilding is different from initializing or resetting the PS5: do not select a reset option unless PlayStation Support has specifically directed you and you have confirmed a backup.

If Safe Mode does not appear, the usual causes are an incomplete shutdown or a controller connection problem. Power the console off again, hold the button until the second beep, and use a known-good wired data cable. Wireless pairing is not sufficient for the documented Safe Mode procedure.

5. Diagnose lag and stutter without assuming a confirmed game fix
There is no current developer-maintained PS5 patch note or known-issues page in the available evidence that confirms a particular Supermarket Simulator graphics setting, patch number, or save-repair workaround for frame-rate lag. That means you should not treat an internet tip about a hidden setting as an established fix. First determine whether the symptom is a one-time loading pause, repeated stutter during play, or a full freeze.
When the game stutters briefly during loading
- Confirm that the game and PS5 software are updated.
- Wait for all installation and update activity to finish.
- If the game is on USB extended storage, move it to Console Storage.
- Restart the PS5 and test the same scene again.
These actions address incomplete software state and storage access without changing your save. If the pause disappears after a restart, continue to monitor it rather than deleting data.
When stutter is repeatable during normal play
Record where it happens and whether it affects a new game as well as the old save. A symptom that appears in both fresh and existing games after reinstalling points away from one save and toward the game, console storage, or a wider system condition. A symptom limited to one save should be reported as a possible save-specific issue. Include the exact location, action, frequency, and whether the game recovers or closes.
When “lag” is actually a freeze or crash
If input stops responding, the picture remains frozen, or the application closes to the PS5 home screen, follow the crash path: restart, test a new game, reinstall, then use Safe Mode after backup. Do not repeatedly force the console off unless it is unresponsive; abrupt shutdowns can create additional storage checks on the next boot.

6. Handle saves that disappeared or will not load
First establish what disappeared
Separate three cases: the game application is missing, the save is absent from the game’s load menu, or the save is visible but fails while loading. Reinstalling the application addresses the first case, but it does not automatically restore a missing or damaged save.
If only one save refuses to load
- Stop trying to overwrite the failing file with new progress.
- Back up the current saved data before deleting or restoring anything.
- Start a new game and verify that the game itself works.
- Keep the failing save available when contacting the publisher, along with the error message and the point at which loading stops.
PlayStation’s new-game test is diagnostic: success with a fresh game makes the old save a likely corruption point, but it does not prove that the publisher can repair it. Do not promise yourself that a reinstall will reconstruct missing progress.
If every save fails or the load menu is empty
Check that you are using the same PS5 user profile and the same edition or disc installation that created the data. Then complete the update, restart, reinstall, and Safe Mode sequence. If you have a verified cloud or USB backup, restore it only after the clean installation has been tested; restoring immediately can overwrite the only copy that might help identify the fault.
If a save vanished after a crash
Do not create many replacement saves in the same slot. Preserve the console state, capture a screenshot of the load menu or error, and document the last successful session. This gives the publisher a clearer reproduction history and reduces the chance of overwriting recoverable data.
7. Decide whether the fault belongs to the game or the console
Only Supermarket Simulator fails
PlayStation support states: “If the error only affects one game, contact the publisher of the game to find out if there is a known error.” After you have recorded the version, error code, save behavior, and steps that reproduce the issue, contact Supermarket Simulator’s publisher. Ask whether the symptom is a known PS5 issue and provide the evidence requested.

Several games crash or fail to launch
If other installed games show the same crashes, freezes, or launch failures, the scope is no longer title-specific. Contact PlayStation Support or Repairs. Tell them which games fail, whether they are installed on internal or USB storage, whether Safe Mode changed the behavior, and whether the console displays a system error.
Storage-specific symptoms
If games on USB extended storage fail while games on the internal SSD work, keep affected titles on internal storage while support investigates the drive or connection. If both locations fail, report that distinction; it helps support separate a storage-device problem from a broader console fault.
8. Prepare a useful support report
A precise report is more actionable than “the game is laggy.” Include:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors- PS5 model and whether the game is installed on Console Storage or USB extended storage.
- PS5 system software version and Supermarket Simulator version, if shown on the console.
- The exact error code or on-screen wording.
- Whether the problem occurs before the title screen, when loading one save, in a new game, or during a repeatable in-game action.
- What changed after each step: update, restart, move to internal storage, reinstall, cache clearing, or database rebuild.
- Whether other games are affected.
- A screenshot or short video when possible, while avoiding personal account information.
Do not claim that a particular frame-rate percentage, crash rate, or player count proves the cause; no authoritative numeric rate for Supermarket Simulator PS5 failures has been established here.
What not to do
- Do not delete the only copy of a save before backing it up.
- Do not initialize or factory-reset the PS5 as a first response to one game’s crash.
- Do not interrupt a download, file move, cache operation, or database rebuild.
- Do not assume a reinstall repairs save corruption.
- Do not treat an unverified graphics tweak or rumored patch as an official fix.
- Do not use Safe Mode without a USB data cable for the DualSense; the documented recovery procedure requires a wired controller connection.
Final decision path
For a crash, freeze, or missing-load problem, update both the game and PS5, finish the installation, move the title to internal storage if it was on USB, and restart. Test a new game before touching the old save. If the clean game works, preserve and back up the old save and report it as a likely save-specific fault. If the clean game fails, reinstall, then clear the cache and rebuild the database in Safe Mode. A problem limited to Supermarket Simulator should go to its publisher; problems affecting multiple games should go to PlayStation Support or Repairs.
