Use Nintendo’s troubleshooting sequence in order: update the Switch 2 and the game, restart, scan the installation for corrupted data, then reinstall the game to system memory with the microSD Express card removed. Reseat a physical game card when applicable. If several games have the same fault, arrange console service; if only this game remains broken after a clean reinstall, contact Nintendo and the game’s publisher or licensee.
Start by identifying the failure pattern
The fastest route to a real fix depends on whether the problem affects one title or the whole console, and whether the game is on a card or downloaded. Do not begin by buying a cooling device, a faster storage card, or a repair tool: Nintendo’s own procedure uses updates, a restart, data checks, storage removal, and a system-memory redownload.

| What you see | First distinction to make | Most useful next action |
|---|---|---|
| Periodic stutter, slowdown, or irregular motion | Does it happen only in Guardians of the Galaxy or in several games? | Complete the update and clean-redownload sequence; compare with another game afterward. |
| “There was a problem, and the software needed to close” | Does the game close once or repeatedly at the same point? | Restart, update, scan for corrupted data, then reinstall to system memory without the microSD Express card. |
| Missing, scrambled, distorted, or blurry textures | Is the fault limited to this game and its current install? | Check the card or downloaded data, update, restart, and redownload if the visual fault persists. |
| Several games show similar stutter or visual corruption | The issue is broader than one software installation. | After basic checks, contact Nintendo for repair; Nintendo says a console affecting all games needs service. |
What to prepare before troubleshooting
- Have a reliable internet connection available for software updates and a full redownload.
- Know whether Guardians of the Galaxy is being launched from a physical game card or downloaded storage.
- If a microSD Express card is installed, be ready to remove it during the reinstall test.
- Record when the fault occurs: immediately at launch, after loading a save, during a particular area, or after fast travel. This helps support distinguish a repeatable software failure from a general console fault.
- Test at least one other game after the initial steps. The comparison is essential to Nintendo’s decision path.
Save any screenshots or error wording before deleting software. The official procedure below concerns the game installation and system storage; it does not establish that a particular save file is damaged.

Follow this repair sequence in order
1. Install the latest Switch 2 system update
- Open System Settings from the HOME Menu.
- Choose System, then System Update.
- Allow the console to complete the update and restart if prompted.
Nintendo places the console update first because an outdated system can affect more than one game. Do not assume that a recently purchased console or a newly inserted card is already current.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
2. Update Guardians of the Galaxy
- Highlight the game icon on the HOME Menu.
- Press the + or − button to open the software menu.
- Select Software Update, then Via the Internet.
- Wait for the update check and installation to finish before launching the game.
The checked Switch 2 compatibility information does not establish a Guardians of the Galaxy-specific patch or a confirmed title-only fix. Install any update the console offers, but do not treat an anecdotal online report as an official patch notice.
3. Restart normally
- Hold the physical POWER button for at least three seconds.
- Choose Power Options, then Restart.
- Launch the game only after the HOME Menu returns.
A restart clears the current session without changing the installation. If the console is frozen and will not display the power menu, Nintendo documents a forced shutdown: hold POWER for 12 seconds. Use that only when a normal restart is impossible, then power the console on and continue with the update and data checks.
4. Scan the installation for corrupted data
- Open System Settings.
- Select Data Management, then Manage Software.
- Choose Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy.
- Select Scan for Corrupted Data and let the check finish.
If the scan reports a problem, follow the console’s prompt to redownload the affected software. A clean scan does not rule out every possible fault; it means this built-in check did not identify corrupted data, so continue to the storage-isolation test if the symptom remains.

Use this branch only when you launch from a card.
- Save your work, close the game, and power the Switch 2 off completely.
- Remove the game card, then insert it again firmly in the correct orientation.
- Power the console on and check Software Update > Via the Internet from the game icon.
- Test the same scene that previously stuttered, crashed, or displayed damaged textures.
Nintendo specifically recommends removing and reinserting a physical card for lag or irregular performance and checking the card when visual data is missing or distorted. If reseating changes nothing, continue rather than repeatedly removing the card while the console is running.

6. Rebuild a downloaded installation in system memory
This is the most important step for persistent faults in a downloaded copy and Nintendo’s stated path for continuing lag, crashes, or damaged visual assets.
- Open System Settings > Data Management > Manage Software and select the game.
- Choose the option to delete the software from the console.
- Power the Switch 2 off completely.
- Remove the microSD Express card.
- Turn the console on with the card still removed.
- Redownload Guardians of the Galaxy directly to the Switch 2’s internal system memory.
- Install any software update offered, then launch the game before reconnecting the microSD Express card.
This test changes two variables at once: it creates a fresh game download and removes the external storage path. Keep the card out long enough to reproduce the original symptom. If the game works from system memory, add the card back only after closing the game and follow the console’s normal prompts.
7. Compare another game
Use a different installed title and play long enough to encounter ordinary loading and movement. The goal is not to benchmark frame rate; it is to determine scope.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Only Guardians of the Galaxy fails: after the clean system-memory install, the evidence points to this title, its data, or its publisher-managed compatibility rather than a general console defect.
- Several games fail in similar ways: the shared console, system software, or storage path becomes more likely. Nintendo says a problem that persists with all games requires console repair.
- The other game is fine, but the issue returns only when the microSD Express card is used: stop using that storage path for this diagnostic and tell support exactly which configuration reproduces the fault.
Fixing stuttering or irregular performance
Stuttering includes uneven motion, brief freezes, slowdowns, or an image that repeatedly pauses during play. It is different from a single loading pause, so note whether the behavior repeats in the same location and whether menu navigation is also affected.

When the stutter is limited to Guardians of the Galaxy
Complete the system and software updates, restart, run the corruption scan, and use the system-memory redownload with the microSD Express card removed. For a physical copy, reseat the card before moving to the reinstall branch. Afterward, replay the same section under the same installation conditions. A change after the clean redownload is useful evidence that the earlier software data or storage path was involved; it is not proof of a particular hardware component failure.
When every game stutters
Perform the update and restart steps once, then test more than one title. If the irregular performance remains across games, do not keep deleting and reinstalling individual titles or purchase accessories as a workaround. Nintendo’s guidance treats an all-games issue as a console-service case.
When stuttering appears after using a card
For a game card, power off before reseating it. For a download, remove the microSD Express card and redownload to system memory. This isolates the two supported storage configurations without introducing an unverified accessory or overclocking change.
Fixing crashes and the close-software error
Recognize the official error path
Nintendo’s crash procedure applies when a game closes unexpectedly and displays the message “There was a problem, and the software needed to close.” Start with a normal restart, update the Switch 2, update the affected software, and scan for corrupted data. If the crash persists, perform the system-memory redownload with the microSD Express card removed.

If the console is unresponsive
Do not repeatedly tap the power button. Hold POWER for 12 seconds to force the shutdown documented by Nintendo, then turn the console on and resume the normal update and data-check sequence. Note whether the crash happened before the game reached its menu, while loading a save, or during play; that detail can help support reproduce it.
If the crash returns after a clean reinstall
Test another game. A crash confined to this title after a fresh system-memory installation should be reported to the game’s publisher or licensee and to Nintendo support, with the exact error text and the installation configuration. A crash that affects multiple games supports Nintendo’s repair path instead.

Check whether the defect is software-specific
Visual corruption can look like missing textures, flashing geometry, scrambled surfaces, or unusually blurry assets. First update the console and game and restart. Then determine whether the same display problem appears in another game. Nintendo advises checking the game card or downloaded data and pursuing service when a single downloaded game continues to show the fault after those checks.

Physical-card visual faults
Power off, remove and reinsert the game card, then check for a software update. If the visual defect remains, document the scene and whether it occurs after loading a save or fast travel. Do not assume that a television cable, cooling accessory, or replacement storage card is the cause when Nintendo’s supported procedure has not isolated one.

Downloaded visual faults
Run Scan for Corrupted Data. If the scan does not resolve the problem, delete the software, power off, remove the microSD Express card, and redownload to system memory. Launch the fresh installation before restoring the external card. If the same downloaded title still shows missing or distorted assets while other games display normally, contact support rather than treating an internet anecdote as a confirmed title patch.
Physical card versus digital installation
| Installation type | Checks that apply | Isolation test |
|---|---|---|
| Physical game card | Update the console and software; power off before removing and reinserting the card. | Test after reseating; compare another game to determine whether the console or this card/title is involved. |
| Downloaded software on microSD Express | Update, restart, scan for corrupted data, and delete the software if the fault continues. | Remove the microSD Express card and redownload directly to system memory. |
| Downloaded software already in system memory | Update, restart, scan, and delete/redownload if required. | Reinstall while leaving any microSD Express card removed so the test uses only system memory. |
The table describes troubleshooting paths, not performance rankings. The supplied official guidance does not establish that one format is inherently faster or more reliable for this game.
What not to treat as a confirmed fix
- There is no official prevalence statistic or benchmark establishing how often these symptoms occur.
- The checked Switch 2 compatibility listing does not establish a Guardians of the Galaxy-specific patch or title-specific fix.
- Online reports can help describe a symptom, but they remain anecdotal until a dated Nintendo or publisher update confirms a cause or remedy.
- A game card, microSD Express card, cooling accessory, or repair tool is not supported by the cited Nintendo procedures as a guaranteed cure.
Use repeatable observations instead: one game versus several, card versus download, and behavior before versus after a system-memory redownload.
When to contact Nintendo or the game publisher
Contact Nintendo for likely console service
After updating and restarting, test multiple games. If stutter, crashes, or visual corruption persists across them, Nintendo’s stated conclusion is that the console needs repair. Give support the titles tested, whether each was physical or downloaded, whether the microSD Express card was removed, and the exact error wording.
Contact the publisher or licensee for a title-only failure
If other games work normally but Guardians of the Galaxy still fails after a fresh system-memory redownload, report the issue to the game’s publisher or licensee as well as Nintendo support. Include the console system version, game update status, installation type, the scene where the fault appears, and whether the corruption scan found anything. Do not claim that a patch exists unless an official dated notice says so.
What to include in a useful report
- The exact symptom: stutter, unexpected close, missing texture, scrambled image, or blur.
- The sequence that triggers it, such as launch, loading a save, or fast travel.
- Whether the copy is physical or downloaded.
- Whether the game was tested in system memory with the microSD Express card removed.
- Whether another game reproduces the problem.
- Any error message, including the full wording.
Bottom line for Switch 2 players
Use the supported path, not accessory speculation: update the console and game, restart, scan for corrupted data, reseat a physical card when relevant, and rebuild a downloaded installation in system memory with the microSD Express card removed. The comparison with another game determines escalation. All-games problems belong with Nintendo repair; a stubborn Guardians-only problem after a clean reinstall belongs with Nintendo support and the game’s publisher or licensee. No title-specific official patch or guaranteed accessory fix has been established.
