Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minutePC Slower Than It Used to Be?
A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11Start by checking whether the defect appears in the camera preview or only after export. A 360 camera stitches views from multiple lenses, and close subjects can look misaligned, ghosted, or soft where those views meet. Incorrect accessory settings, an obstructed lens, a poorly fitted lens guard, or a shifted lens can cause similar artifacts. A “soft spot” describes a symptom, not one specific camera fault.
First identify where and when the defect appears
Before changing settings, note your camera model, any installed lens guard or other accessories, and which app or editor you use. Check whether the seam is visible in the camera preview, in the maker’s app, or only in the exported file. Also note whether the subject was close to a lens or crossed the stitch line.

Preview and export can differ. Insta360 says preview stitching may be less capable than exported processing, and recommends its app or Studio for best results on relevant X Series workflows. A defect visible only in preview is not, by itself, proof that the recorded footage or camera is faulty. Insta360’s X Series stitching guide describes the relevant settings and processing options.
Fix the most common causes in order
1. Match the stitching setting to the camera setup
If you use a lens guard, check that the app or Studio’s lens-stitching option matches the guard actually installed. If no guard is fitted, do not leave a guard mode selected. A mismatch can create artifacts that resemble a seam failure.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
2. Check for obstruction and poor accessory fit
Inspect both lens areas for fingers, straps, mounts, covers, or other obstructions. Make sure a lens guard or cover is seated correctly: a gap or misfit can introduce shadows, visible edges, or other artifacts. If it is safe and practical, remove the guard and record a short comparison clip. Replace a guard or lens only if the existing part is damaged, changed, or incompatible; confirm compatibility with your exact camera model.
3. Give nearby subjects more room
Close-range parallax is a fundamental limitation: the two lenses see nearby objects from different positions, so their views may not align cleanly. Moving the subject farther from the camera and keeping important faces or objects away from the stitch line can reduce distortion and ghosting, though it cannot guarantee a perfect seam.

The recommended distance depends on the camera and the situation. Insta360’s X3 FAQ gives a model-specific minimum safety stitching distance of 0.6 m (1.9 ft). Its X Series troubleshooting guidance recommends at least 0.8 m (2.62 ft) for better results in the bottom or hand area. These figures apply to their stated contexts; they are not universal minimums for every 360 camera. See the X3 stitching FAQ and X Series troubleshooting guide.

Export a short test through the camera maker’s app or desktop software, then compare it with the preview. For relevant Insta360 cases, the X Series guide lists AI Stitching and Optical Flow Stitching as processing options. When calibration may help
Calibration is model-specific, not a general-purpose fix for every soft-looking seam. Insta360 documents stitching calibration to address stitching affected by a drop or lens replacement on the X4 Air, X5, and X6. Follow the instructions for your own model rather than applying those steps to another camera.
For the supported models, Insta360’s calibration tutorial says to remove accessories and calibrate outdoors in a bright, open area, with large objects about 10 m (33 ft) away. Hold the camera still with one lens facing up and the other down. These are procedure-specific conditions, not a general calibration distance for all cameras.

Older models may use different calibration flows. For example, the Insta360 ONE X FAQ addresses that model’s stitching; consult the manual or support information for your camera before looking for a calibration control.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsChoose a remedy based on the cause
| Likely cause | First remedy to try | Applies to | Does it fix existing footage? | Is a purchase needed? |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Close-range parallax | Move subjects farther away and keep important details off the seam | Any multi-lens 360 camera; the useful distance varies by model and scene | No. This changes how you capture the next clip. | No. |
| Wrong lens-guard or stitching setting | Set the stitching option to match the installed guard or no-guard setup | Models and software with the relevant setting | Possibly, if the maker’s software can process the clip with the correct setting | No, unless a part is actually damaged or incompatible. |
| Obstruction or poorly seated accessory | Clear the lens area, reseat the accessory, and compare with a short clip taken without it when safe | Any setup with a lens obstruction, guard, cover, or mount near the lens | Usually the most useful check is a new comparison capture; an obstructed view may not be recoverable. | Only if the installed part is damaged or incompatible. |
| Processing or preview limitation | Export through the maker’s app or Studio; try an available stitching mode | Only workflows and models that offer those processing options | Yes, if the export workflow can improve the recorded clip | No. Begin with the maker’s included software. |
| Lens shift after a drop or replacement | Use the model’s documented calibration procedure, if supported | Insta360 X4 Air, X5, and X6 have documented calibration for these circumstances | Calibration may address affected stitching on supported models; it is not a guaranteed repair. | Not for calibration itself; a damaged part may require model-compatible replacement. |
Optional: reduce bottom-area obstruction
An invisible selfie stick can reduce how much the camera body or a hand obstructs the bottom of a 360-degree frame. It addresses occlusion only: it does not correct close-range parallax or restore displaced lens calibration. Try capture and software checks before buying an accessory.

Retest, then decide whether to seek support
- Record a short scene with the same camera, accessory setup, and stitching settings, placing subjects farther from the camera and away from the seam.
- Export the clip through the maker’s app or desktop software and compare the export with the preview.
- If the artifact persists across settings and a properly prepared export—or began after a drop or lens replacement—save the clip and note the camera model and workflow before contacting the manufacturer’s model-specific support.
Underwater footage can have an additional optical complication. DJI says refraction through the Osmo 360’s convex fisheye lens design may cause distortion and stitching errors. A seam in underwater footage may therefore have a different cause from an accessory-setting problem. See the Osmo 360 FAQ.
Why a seam can remain visible
The seam is the boundary where views from separate lenses meet. Because the lenses occupy different positions, a nearby subject appears from a slightly different angle to each one. Software can blend the views, but it cannot always make that boundary geometrically perfect. Insta360’s X3 FAQ explains the role of parallax, while its X Series guide describes distortion near frame edges. The AKASO support article on visible stitching lines also addresses camera-specific troubleshooting.
