Start by identifying your platform and the exact symptom: a launch failure, a crash during a mission, a freeze after Alt-Tab, stuttering or low FPS, or a prolonged load. The fixes differ for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S, and a connection problem needs a separate troubleshooting path. Work through the platform-specific checks below from least disruptive to more involved; none is guaranteed to resolve every system.
Start with the platform and symptom
Choose the path that matches your setup: PC (and its storefront), PS5, or Xbox Series X|S. Note when the problem occurs. A game that will not launch calls for different checks than one that stutters in a mission or takes a long time to enter one. Saber separates these issues in its Space Marine 2 crash guidance and links to separate guides for low FPS and stuttering, as well as console troubleshooting. If the problem is a connection error rather than a local crash or performance issue, use Saber’s connection troubleshooting section.

PC: try these checks first for crashes or freezes
After an update, a failed or interrupted download can leave game files damaged. Use this sequence before reinstalling:
- Restart the PC. Saber lists this as the first troubleshooting step.
- Verify the game files in the storefront where you installed the game. Saber provides separate instructions for Steam, Epic Games Store, and the Xbox app. Verification checks the installed files without requiring you to begin with a full reinstall.
- Temporarily close overlays and background utilities for a diagnostic test. Saber identifies Discord, Steam, NVIDIA App, and AMD Adrenalin overlays, RGB utilities, and third-party antivirus as possible sources of interference. Do not leave security protection disabled; if you pause a security tool briefly to test, restore it immediately afterward.
- If the issue began after a game or graphics-driver update, clear the shader cache using the instructions for your GPU vendor. Saber says compiled shaders can become corrupted after an update. The first launch after clearing the cache takes longer while shaders rebuild, and some stuttering during the first few minutes is expected.
- Disconnect extra USB devices and test again. Try removing devices such as VR headsets, steering wheels, flight sticks, additional controllers, and external drives. If a gamepad appears to trigger a launch failure, Saber suggests starting the game with mouse and keyboard, then reconnecting the gamepad at the main menu.
If the crash persists, use the matching section of Saber’s PC crash guide for launch crashes, mid-mission crashes, or freezing after Alt-Tab. A local crash is not the same issue as a connection error.

PC: troubleshoot stuttering and low FPS
Start by disconnecting extra devices, then move to driver and background-software diagnostics if performance remains poor. Follow Saber’s low-FPS and stuttering guide for its driver instructions.
- Test with extra USB devices disconnected. This can help distinguish game performance problems from input-device or peripheral hitching.
- Clean-install the graphics driver. Use the procedure for your GPU vendor rather than assuming that reinstalling the game will address a driver issue.
- Try a Windows clean boot to check for background-software conflicts. Treat this as a diagnostic, not a permanent setup. After testing, re-enable startup programs methodically so you can identify a conflict without leaving unrelated software disabled.
- Reinstall the game only if the earlier checks do not help. Saber places reinstallation later in its sequence. Its guide says progress is stored in the account or cloud saves rather than the game files; that statement is support guidance, not a guarantee covering every platform or account situation.
A narrow Intel Arc exception
Intel’s support article, reviewed July 16, 2026, covers a brief freeze or stutter during the opening cutscene on the Intel Arc products listed there. For that specific case, Intel recommends graphics driver 32.0.101.7028 or later: Intel’s Space Marine 2 support article. This recommendation is not general guidance for AMD or NVIDIA systems, or for every kind of stutter.

PS5: resolve crashes and freezes
Saber’s PS5 crash guide recommends these steps in sequence. Use the current menu labels in the linked guide if your system software presents different wording.
- Fully power-cycle the console. Shut it down rather than using Rest Mode; a sleep or Rest Mode restart is not equivalent to a full power cycle.
- Check for both game and system-software updates.
- Use Safe Mode to clear the system software cache and rebuild the database. Saber says these operations do not delete games or saves. Follow the guide’s Safe Mode instructions carefully.
- Check ventilation and overheating. If clearing dust from vents, power down and unplug the console first.
- Reinstall the game if the earlier steps fail. Saber lists this later in its troubleshooting sequence.
Xbox Series X|S: resolve crashes and freezes
For Xbox, follow Saber’s Xbox crash guide. Its sequence does not include the PS5 cache-clearing or database-rebuild steps.

Space Marine 2 taking a long time to load
First establish what is slow: starting the game, entering a mission, or matchmaking. The likely checks differ, and the available guidance does not establish one universal fix for long loads across PC and consoles.
On PC, check the storage requirement
Focus Entertainment’s PC system requirements specify an SSD and 75 GB of available storage. Confirm that the game is installed on SSD storage and that the drive has the required available space. This is a requirements check, not evidence that replacing an SSD will fix every slow load.

What the current patch notes establish
Focus Entertainment’s Patch 15.0 entry, dated October 1, 2026, lists “Loading times improvements.” It also lists memory optimisations, minor performance improvements, connectivity improvements, crash fixes, and general stability improvements. The notes give no measured loading-time reduction, name no individual cause, and do not promise that every post-update issue is fixed. Earlier Patch 13.0 notes, dated May 21, 2026, also listed minor loading-time improvements; patch notes describe changes, not results measured on an individual system.
