How to Fix “Something Went Wrong” on Disney Plus

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

“Something went wrong” is a generic Disney+ message, not a single diagnosis. First note whether the screen shows Error 83 or another code, then test another title, another device, and—if possible—another network. Those three checks usually reveal whether the cause is Disney+, your account, the internet connection, the app, the browser, or the TV’s HDMI chain.

Disney associates Error 83 (“Something went wrong. Please try again…”) mainly with device compatibility and connection problems, but similar wording can accompany other errors. Use Disney’s error-code index when a code is displayed.

Identify the exact failure before changing settings

Record the complete wording and code, then note where the failure occurs:

  • Before sign-in, after entering credentials, or while choosing a profile
  • When opening one title or every title
  • After playback starts
  • On one device, every device on home Wi-Fi, or every network you can test

Error 83

Disney describes Error 83 as a broad compatibility or connection-style problem, not proof that one specific component is defective. Follow the device, software, and network checks below. See Disney’s Error 83 guidance.

A message with no code

Treat it as an isolation problem first. A title-specific playback fault, a stuck app session, browser data, or a local network issue can all produce the same wording.

Another code

Errors such as 42, 43, 73, 75, 91, 92, 93, 1026, 142, and login-related Error 14 have different meanings. Follow the matching entry in Disney’s official index instead of automatically applying an Error 83 fix.

Run the fastest isolation tests

  1. Open a different Disney+ title.
  2. Try the same account on another supported device, such as a phone or computer.
  3. Try DisneyPlus.com in a supported browser.
  4. If available, test a phone on cellular data or a temporary hotspot.
  5. Open another streaming service on the original device and network.
What you observe More likely explanation
Disney+ fails on every device and another network Account or Disney+ service-side problem
It fails on every device on home Wi-Fi but works on cellular Router, ISP, DNS, or home-network path
It fails on one device only App, cache, operating system, compatibility, or device fault
Only one title fails Title-specific playback, rights, regional, or content-delivery issue
Other streaming apps also fail General internet, router, or device problem

This is a troubleshooting inference, not a live outage diagnosis. Disney’s help pages provide support guidance but do not establish a real-time outage.

Apply the least-disruptive fixes first

Force-close Disney+

Exit the app completely rather than pressing Home and leaving it suspended. Reopen Disney+ and retry the same title. Disney recommends fully exiting Disney+ and other background programs before reopening it (streaming troubleshooting).

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Restart the device

Power-cycle the television, streaming stick, console, phone, tablet, or computer. A true restart clears a hung process; standby mode may not.

  • 4K picture quality: With Roku Streaming Stick Plus, watch your favorites with brilliant 4K picture and vivid HDR color.
  • Compact without compromises: Our sleek design won’t block neighboring HDMI ports, and it even powers from your TV alone, plugging into the back and staying out of sight. No wall outlet, no extra cords, no clutter.

  • Shows on the go: Take your TV to-go when traveling—without needing to log into someone else’s device.

Update everything

Install Disney+ updates from the device’s official app store, apply pending TV/console/phone/streaming-device firmware updates, and update your computer browser.

Refresh a browser session

Reload DisneyPlus.com, close and reopen the browser, then retry in another supported browser if necessary. Disney currently supports the latest Chrome, Firefox, Edge, and Opera on Windows 10 or newer; the latest Chrome, Firefox, Edge, and Safari on macOS 11 or newer; and the latest Chrome on ChromeOS. Details are in Disney’s computer browser requirements.

Check compatibility and browser settings

Use the Disney+ app where your platform officially supports it, or a current supported browser. Avoid unofficial app packages, obsolete devices, and unsupported browser environments. Requirements vary by model, operating system, country, and app availability. For example, Disney’s U.S. Android page requires Android 6.0 or later for Android phones and tablets (supported Android devices).

For browser playback, make sure JavaScript and cookies are enabled. Temporarily disable ad blockers, privacy or script blockers, and other extensions. A private/incognito window is useful as a diagnostic: if Disney+ works there, corrupted cookies or an extension is a likely cause.

Restart the modem and router correctly

Disney lists unstable or slow connections, router/modem problems, distance from the router, many connected devices, and ISP outages as possible contributors. A speed test alone cannot rule out packet loss, congestion, DNS failures, or intermittent drops.

  1. Turn off the Disney+ device.
  2. Unplug or power off the modem and router.
  3. Wait briefly for both devices to shut down.
  4. Restart the modem and wait for its connection lights to stabilize.
  5. Restart the router and wait for Wi-Fi to return.
  6. Restart the Disney+ device and test again.

Move a Wi-Fi device closer to the router, pause large downloads and extra streams, or try Ethernet if available. A hotspot is best used as a short diagnostic test, not a permanent substitute.

Clear Disney+ cache, data, or browser site data

Clear cache removes temporary files and is usually the least disruptive option. Clear data/storage resets local app information and normally requires signing in again. Clearing browser cookies or site data can also sign you out. Disney’s platform-specific instructions are at its cache and data guide.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Android phone or tablet

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap Apps, then Disney+.
  3. Tap Storage.
  4. Tap Clear Cache; if needed, tap Clear Data.

Cache controls are available only on selected Android models.

Fire TV or Fire TV Stick

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Select Applications and Manage Installed Applications.
  3. Choose Disney+, then Clear Cache or Clear Data.

Apple TV

Disney recommends uninstalling and reinstalling Disney+ to clear cached data on Apple TV.

Computer browser

Clear DisneyPlus.com site data or the browser cache and cookies, then sign in again. Disney warns that cache clearing may require reauthentication (browser cache instructions).

Reinstall Disney+

  1. Uninstall Disney+.
  2. Restart the device.
  3. Install Disney+ again from the official app store.
  4. Sign in and test a title that previously failed.

Reinstallation can remove downloads and local settings and may require authentication. It cannot fix an unsupported device, an account restriction, or a service-side problem.

Fix playback failures on a TV or external display

If Disney+ opens but fails when playback begins—especially when switching to 4K or HDR—check the complete HDMI chain:

  • Reseat both ends of the HDMI cable.
  • Try another HDMI port and, if possible, another cable.
  • Connect the streaming device directly to the TV instead of through an AV receiver or HDMI switch.
  • Update TV and receiver firmware.
  • Confirm the external display and connected components support the required HDCP level.

Disney says 4K Ultra HD and HDR external displays should support HDCP 2.2, and all components should support high-bandwidth digital content (streaming troubleshooting). HDCP is less likely to explain a basic login-page failure.

Check account, sign-in, and region issues

Sign-in or profile selection

  • Verify the email address and password.
  • Try signing in through a supported browser.
  • Reset the password only when credentials may be wrong or compromised.
  • Check whether the account works on another device.

Errors 14, 91, 92, and 93 can indicate incorrect credentials, throttling, suspicious activity, or authorization conditions. Use their specific entries in Disney’s error index, and do not create a new account as a first-line fix.

Region and VPN checks

Error 73 concerns content unavailable in the viewer’s current location (Disney error index). Disable a VPN or proxy temporarily and check whether the device, network, or account region is being misidentified. Do not buy a VPN as a universal workaround; it can introduce region, authentication, latency, and playback problems. Regional availability and support policies differ by country; the contact details below are for the United States.

When to contact Disney+ support

Escalate when the problem persists on multiple supported devices and both Wi-Fi and cellular/hotspot testing, when the account cannot sign in anywhere, or when a code indicates throttling, suspicious activity, authorization, or region restrictions. Disney’s U.S. contact page offers virtual-assistant/chat support and lists 888-905-7888; local or international charges may apply (Disney+ contact page).

Have these details ready:

  • Exact message and error code
  • Device make, model, and operating-system or firmware version
  • Disney+ app version or browser name and version
  • Whether one title or all titles fail
  • Results of the other-device and other-network tests
  • Date and approximate time of the failure
  • A screenshot when it helps identify the message

Frequently Asked Questions

Is “Something went wrong” the same as Error 83?

No. Error 83 is one coded version of the message and is broadly associated by Disney with compatibility or connection problems. Similar wording can accompany other codes or an uncoded, title-specific failure.

Why does Disney+ work on my phone but not my TV?

That pattern points more strongly to the TV app, TV firmware, device compatibility, cache, or HDMI/display chain than to the account. Update and restart the TV device, clear its app data, reinstall Disney+, and test the HDMI connection if playback—not login—fails.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Will clearing cache delete my Disney+ account?

No. Clearing cache removes temporary files. Clearing app data or browser cookies can remove local settings and sign you out, but it does not cancel the subscription or delete the Disney account.

Why does only one movie fail?

A single-title failure is more consistent with title-specific playback, rights, regional availability, or content-delivery trouble than with a general device failure. Test another title and report the exact title to Disney if it remains unavailable.

Should I buy a new streaming stick or router?

Not before testing another device and another network. Hardware is justified only when those tests isolate a device limitation or a confirmed network fault.
