If a Razer Synapse macro stops working in World of Warcraft, first find where the input fails: confirm the macro exists and is assigned to the intended button, then test the button outside WoW and check the game’s keybindings. Restart the game and computer before troubleshooting; Blizzard recommends restarting as an initial step, but that is general advice—not a guaranteed Synapse-specific fix.
1. Restart, then identify what stopped working
Restart WoW and your computer, then test the same button again. If it still fails, note which of these best describes the symptom:

- The button does nothing in any application: Start with the device, its Synapse profile, and macro assignment.
- The button works outside WoW but not in the game: Check WoW’s keybindings and the in-game macro or action-bar setup.
- A basic key works in WoW, but the intended sequence does not: The game’s macro rules may be limiting what that sequence can do.
These are diagnostic branches, not confirmed causes for every device or setup. Blizzard’s general WoW technical troubleshooting guidance recommends restarting before other troubleshooting.
2. Check that Synapse still has the macro and the right assignment
Creating a macro and assigning it to a button are separate steps. Razer’s current instructions use Synapse 4:

- In Synapse, select Macro > New Macro.
- Give the macro a clear name and record a simple, harmless key for testing. Razer’s Synapse 4 macro creation guide describes recording keystrokes or mouse functions.
- Select the relevant device and open its customization page.
- Select the programmable key or button you want to use, choose the macro, select the playback behavior you want, and save. See Razer’s macro assignment instructions.
Make sure you selected the device and button you actually use in WoW. Razer notes that some keys, including Windows and Fn, cannot be remapped or assigned macros. If you cannot choose the intended control, check whether it is programmable on your specific device.
3. Test the button outside the game
Use a simple test to separate a device or Synapse problem from a WoW-specific one:

- Trigger the assigned button in a text field outside WoW, such as a blank document.
- Check whether the expected test key appears.
- In WoW, bind or test that same basic key without relying on a complex macro.
This comparison is a troubleshooting method, not a documented universal repair. If the test key fails outside the game, focus on the device, profile, and assignment. If it works outside WoW but not in the game, continue with the in-game checks below.
4. Check WoW’s bindings and macro behavior
If WoW receives the key but the ability or in-game macro does not run as expected, inspect the game-side setup:

- Check whether the key is already bound to something else, and confirm the intended ability or in-game macro is on the action bar you expect.
- Review modifier-key assignments, such as Shift, Ctrl, or Alt. A binding conflict can make a modifier-based setup behave differently than intended.
- Test the action with a basic keybind before adding more conditions or steps. WoW’s macro system has limits on what it can automate.
A community guide to WoW macros discusses modifier conflicts and macro limitations. It is contextual advice, not an official current diagnosis of Synapse failures; its post dates to 2018, so verify behavior in your current game client rather than relying on every detail as current policy.
5. Check which Synapse version you use
If you are on Synapse 3, account for its support status before changing profiles or reinstalling software. Razer says Synapse 3 stopped receiving updates and cloud services on February 3, 2026. Existing installed devices remain configurable; Razer recommends migrating profiles to Synapse 4 if you uninstall devices and later need to customize them again. Check compatibility for your particular device and whether the problem began after a software update or profile change before deciding to migrate. 6. Keep macros within WoW’s rules
Do not use input-broadcasting software to mirror an action across multiple WoW clients. Blizzard’s policy on input broadcasting, updated November 3, 2020, says software that mirrors inputs to multiple game clients is actionable. That policy addresses multiple clients; it does not establish that every ordinary single-client peripheral button assignment is prohibited.

7. Gather details if the problem persists
If the steps above do not isolate the failure, record these details for Razer Support or Blizzard Technical Support:
- Razer device model and operating system
- Synapse version and WoW client version
- The button used and its assigned macro playback behavior
- Whether the button produces the expected key outside WoW
- Whether a basic keybind works in WoW
- Any recent software update, profile change, or migration
Without those details, there is no single established cause or guaranteed fix for a Synapse macro that stops working in WoW.
