Most RayNeo GT flicker, “No Signal,” black-screen, and disconnect problems come from a loose connection, a USB-C port that cannot output video, an unsuitable cable or adapter, or a source device that has not authorized an external display. Start by reseating both ends of the included USB-C cable, confirm that the source supports DisplayPort video over USB-C, try another compatible port with the device unlocked, and then update the glasses firmware. HDMI sources require RayNeo’s HDMI to Glasses and Charging Adapter in the signal path. A brief flicker or temporary black screen while the firmware tool connects or updates can be normal; do not disconnect during that process.
Start with this five-minute recovery sequence
Work through these checks in order. Each step removes a different failure point, so changing several things at once makes the result harder to interpret.

- Disconnect the glasses and reseat the included USB-C cable. Unplug it from the source and from the glasses, inspect both plugs for debris or damage, and push each end fully home. A connector can look inserted while its high-speed contacts are not making reliable contact.
- Confirm that the source port carries video. The USB-C shape alone proves nothing. The port must support DisplayPort over USB-C, DP Alt Mode, Alt DP over USB-C, or compatible Thunderbolt video. A charging-only or data-only USB-C port cannot drive the GT display.
- Try another video-capable port and unlock the source. If the computer or phone has more than one USB-C port, test each one that is documented for display output. Unlock the device and accept any prompt that permits an external display. Some systems with a locked screen or restricted accessory policy will provide power without sending a picture.
- Use the correct signal path for HDMI. Connect the HDMI source to the RayNeo HDMI to Glasses and Charging Adapter, connect the adapter to the included USB-C cable, and connect that cable to the GT. A passive HDMI-to-USB-C cable is not a substitute for this documented adapter chain.
- Bring the firmware up to date. On Android, open the RayNeo XR App, choose Glasses Settings, and select Firmware upgrade. On an iPhone or another non-Android device, use the RayNeo firmware page in desktop Chrome, connect the glasses, and complete the upgrade without unplugging them.
If the display remains abnormal after those checks, record the glasses model, the connected-device model, and the exact connection method before contacting RayNeo Support. Those details let support reproduce the connection rather than treating “black screen” as an undefined symptom.

These symptoms overlap but do not always have the same cause. Flicker that changes when the plug or cable moves points toward seating, cable condition, or a marginal port. A steady “No Signal” message usually means the glasses are powered but no valid video stream is arriving. A completely dark display can be a signal problem, a source authorization problem, or the normal temporary state shown by the firmware updater. Repeated dropouts after the picture initially works often indicate an unstable physical connection, a source port that is not designed for sustained video, or an adapter that is not maintaining the required signal and power path.

RayNeo’s published guidance does not establish one universal hardware defect behind every intermittent GT connection. There is also no official failure rate, flicker frequency, or defect statistic that can be used to predict how often a particular unit should fail. Diagnosis therefore depends on isolating the source, cable, adapter, software, and power variables.
Check the entire video path, not just the glasses
A working USB-C charging connection is not evidence of a working display connection. Video must travel from the source’s graphics hardware, through a video-capable port and cable, to the glasses. Any link that supports only charging or ordinary USB data can leave the GT powered while the screens remain black.
| Source connection | What the source must provide | Required path or action | Typical symptom when missing |
|---|---|---|---|
| USB-C to USB-C | DisplayPort over USB-C, DP Alt Mode, Alt DP over USB-C, or compatible Thunderbolt video | Included USB-C cable, fully seated at both ends; try another documented video port if necessary | Glasses power on but show “No Signal” or remain black |
| HDMI | An HDMI output from the source and a powered conversion path | HDMI source → RayNeo HDMI to Glasses and Charging Adapter → included USB-C cable → GT | No picture when using a simple HDMI-to-USB-C lead or an adapter without the RayNeo conversion path |
| Lightning-based source | A Lightning video-output solution that is compatible with the source and the GT connection method | Use the appropriate video adapter and follow its power requirements; the exact adapter configuration varies by device | Charging or device recognition without a usable external display signal |
When testing, change one variable at a time. For example, keep the same glasses and cable while trying a second known video-capable port. If the picture returns, the first port or its source configuration is the likely fault. If the problem follows the cable, stop using that cable; a cable can carry power while its high-speed conductors are damaged or unreliable.
USB-C troubleshooting in detail
Verify the port’s specification
Look in the source manufacturer’s specifications or port markings for DisplayPort, DP, DP Alt Mode, or a Thunderbolt symbol. A USB-C port described only as charging, USB data, or peripheral connectivity is insufficient. On laptops, the video-capable port may be on only one side or may be shared with a particular graphics controller.

Reseat and inspect the cable
Remove protective cases that prevent the plug from reaching full depth. Check for lint in the source and glasses sockets, bent contacts, a cracked plug shell, or a cable that has been sharply kinked near either connector. Do not force a plug or scrape contacts with metal. Reconnect with the source and glasses stationary, then gently move the cable near each end. If movement immediately produces flicker, the connection is mechanically marginal even if it works while untouched.
Test another compatible port
Some devices have several USB-C sockets with different capabilities. Move the cable to another port that is explicitly documented for external displays, not merely another socket that looks identical. If one port works and another does not, keep the working port in service and report the non-working port to the source-device manufacturer.
Unlock and authorize the source
Wake and unlock the phone, tablet, or computer before connecting. Accept an operating-system prompt that asks whether to allow an external display or accessory. Corporate management, privacy settings, or a restricted accessory mode can block display output while still allowing the port to charge a device. Disconnect, unlock, and reconnect after changing such a setting.

If the included cable is visibly damaged or fails when tested on a confirmed video-capable source, replace it with a USB-C cable that explicitly supports DisplayPort Alt Mode. Do not substitute a cable advertised only for charging or USB data; those specifications do not promise video. Keep the original cable available for a controlled test so that a new cable does not mask a source-port problem.

Using an HDMI source without creating a black screen
The GT does not receive HDMI through a bare USB-C cable. The documented arrangement is a three-part signal path: the HDMI source connects to RayNeo’s HDMI to Glasses and Charging Adapter; the adapter connects to the included USB-C cable; and the cable connects to the glasses. Omit any link, reverse the direction, or use an incompatible adapter and the glasses may remain dark even though the source reports that an HDMI display is attached.
- Turn off or pause output on the HDMI source if it is actively changing resolutions.
- Insert the HDMI cable into the source and the HDMI input on the RayNeo adapter.
- Connect the included USB-C cable between the adapter’s glasses output and the GT.
- If the adapter requires charging for simultaneous operation, attach the appropriate USB-C power input as specified for that adapter and source arrangement.
- Power or wake the source, select the correct HDMI output, and wait for the external display to be detected.
If HDMI works only when the adapter is held at a particular angle, or drops when its power lead is touched, treat the adapter, cable seating, or power input as the failure point. Test the same glasses and included cable from a known DisplayPort-capable USB-C source to separate an adapter issue from a glasses issue.
Firmware updates: when flicker and a black screen are expected
Firmware maintenance can look like a display failure if it is interrupted. Android users should open the RayNeo XR App, go to Glasses Settings, and choose Firmware upgrade. Keep the glasses connected until the app reports completion.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFor iPhone and other non-Android users, open RayNeo’s firmware page in desktop Chrome, connect the glasses, and follow the on-page upgrade process. The browser-based tool requires an uninterrupted connection: do not close or refresh the page and do not unplug the glasses while the upgrade is running.

RayNeo states that the display may briefly flicker after the glasses are connected to the firmware portal and that this is normal. Its support guidance also warns that the glasses may temporarily show a black screen during the update. Those signs alone are not evidence that the hardware has failed. Wait for the updater to finish before judging the result.
If an over-the-air attempt repeatedly fails, RayNeo’s recovery instruction is to unplug the glasses, refresh the firmware page, reconnect, and retry. Keep the source awake, avoid changing ports, and do not allow the cable to be disturbed during the second attempt. A failed update should not be “fixed” by repeatedly disconnecting during the write process, because that can leave the upgrade incomplete.

Stabilize the physical connection
Route the cable so its weight does not pull sideways on the glasses socket. Avoid tight bends at either plug and keep the source in a position where a hand, hinge, or pocket cannot press against the connector. If a slight touch causes the image to blink, stop using that arrangement instead of treating the symptom as software instability.

A source can provide enough power for the glasses to remain on while its video link fails. Conversely, a source may reduce available power when it is heavily loaded or when another accessory is attached. Test with unnecessary USB devices disconnected. When the source must charge at the same time, use the documented RayNeo charging arrangement for the applicable adapter rather than adding an unverified splitter.

Keep the source awake during a test
Disable automatic sleep temporarily, keep the display unlocked, and prevent the operating system from switching graphics modes while you test. If dropouts stop when sleep and lock are excluded, the glasses and cable may be fine; the source is suspending or reauthorizing its external-display connection.
Use a controlled comparison
Record whether the failure follows the glasses, source, port, cable, or adapter. For example, test the same GT and included cable on a second confirmed video-capable USB-C source. Then test the second source with another compatible display if available. A failure that follows the GT across sources is different from one that stays with a particular laptop port, and support can act faster when that distinction is documented.
Model and accessory compatibility matters
GT accessories are model-specific. Do not substitute GT Max lens shades for GT accessories simply because they look similar. The same caution applies to cables and adapters: physical fit does not prove electrical or optical compatibility. Confirm that an accessory is intended for the RayNeo GT model and for the source output you are using.
For HDMI, use the RayNeo HDMI to Glasses and Charging Adapter specified for the GT connection path. For a damaged USB-C lead, choose one whose specifications explicitly include DisplayPort Alt Mode. If the source must charge simultaneously, verify that the selected adapter and charging arrangement support that use instead of assuming every USB-C hub will pass both power and video.
When to stop troubleshooting and contact RayNeo
Escalate after you have confirmed cable seating, a video-capable source port, source authorization, the correct HDMI path where applicable, and current firmware. Contact RayNeo Support with:
- the exact glasses model;
- the connected-device make and model;
- the connection method (USB-C DisplayPort, HDMI through the RayNeo adapter, or another documented method);
- which ports, cables, and adapters were tested;
- whether the image ever appears, whether movement triggers flicker, and whether the issue began during a firmware update; and
- the wording shown on screen, such as “No Signal,” plus the source operating-system version if known.
That information is more useful than reporting only that the glasses “keep disconnecting.” It identifies whether support should investigate a source-compatibility limitation, an accessory path, firmware state, or a hardware fault.
Quick Recap
A compact decision checklist
- Flicker when the cable moves: reseat both ends, remove case pressure, and test a replacement video-rated cable.
- “No Signal” from USB-C: verify DP Alt Mode or compatible Thunderbolt video; charging and data-only ports cannot drive the display.
- Black screen during firmware work: wait for the update; brief flicker and temporary black output can be normal, and disconnecting can interrupt the upgrade.
- Black screen from HDMI: use the complete HDMI source → RayNeo HDMI to Glasses and Charging Adapter → included USB-C cable → GT chain.
- Works, then disconnects: stabilize the cable, keep the source unlocked and awake, test another video-capable port, and isolate the source from the glasses with a second device.
- Still abnormal after all checks: provide RayNeo Support with the model, source, and connection method so the failure can be reproduced.
