If a product screenshot misses its price, wait for the price element to become visible and contain real text before capturing. A completed page navigation is not proof that a page’s dynamically loaded product data has finished rendering.
Why the price is missing from the screenshot
A browser can finish navigating while a page continues fetching data and updating its interface. Playwright’s navigation guide notes that modern pages may load data and populate the UI after the load event. DOMContentLoaded happens earlier still. Neither milestone guarantees that a product’s price is ready.

This is usually a timing mismatch between the automation script and the page, not evidence by itself that the screenshot tool failed. The reliable fix is to wait for the condition that matters: the displayed price, or the specific successful API response that supplies it.
Wait for the displayed price in Playwright Test
Use a locator that identifies the actual price and assert that it is visible and populated before capturing. Replace the example test ID with a stable selector from the target page.

const price = page.locator('[data-testid="product-price"]');
await expect(price).toBeVisible();
await expect(price).not.toHaveText('');
await page.screenshot({ path: 'product.png' });
[data-testid="product-price"] is illustrative, not a universal selector. Inspect the page and choose a semantic locator or application-owned test ID that points to the visible price, rather than a hidden template or empty wrapper. Playwright’s Page API documents page waits and screenshots; its waiting guide shows condition-based approaches.
Wait for the price API response when it drives the update
If a known request supplies the price, wait for its successful response, then still check that the price is rendered. Start listening before an interaction that triggers the request, so the script does not miss a fast response.

await page.screenshot({ path: 'product.png' });
The endpoint fragment and selectors are examples. Match the request observed on the target site. A successful response means data arrived; the page may still need time to render it, so the locator assertions protect against capturing during that last step.

- Price locator: Usually the clearest choice because it verifies the content the screenshot must show. Make sure the selector is stable and the text condition excludes placeholders.
- Specific API response: Useful when the price depends on a known request. Match the right endpoint and success status; follow it with a UI condition if rendering can lag.
loadorDOMContentLoaded: Navigation lifecycle milestones, not proof that application data has appeared.networkidle: Playwright discourages it as a general testing readiness strategy. It is also an indirect proxy for one specific price.- Fixed sleep: A delay can pass on one run and fail on another; it does not establish that the price is ready. No universal delay is supported by the documentation.
For a non-test-runner script, use a locator wait/assertion supported by your installed Playwright version, or a page condition when locator assertions do not express the ready state. Keep a finite timeout and report a useful failure if the price never appears; do not silently take a bad screenshot.

Troubleshoot a price that still does not appear
- Verify the locator. In the same browser context, confirm it selects the displayed price—not a hidden template, stale value, or empty container.
- Identify how the price arrives. Determine whether it is in the initial document, inserted after a data request, or recalculated after a choice. Wait for the corresponding DOM state or response.
- Wait for the result of interactions. If selecting a size, region, or other variant updates the price, wait for that resulting price state; a click is not a page-load signal.
- Exclude intermediate states. Check whether the page shows a skeleton, loading text, or an error. Your ready condition should distinguish the final price from those states.
- Make failures visible. Use a finite timeout and surface the wait error with the page URL and relevant selector or request, rather than saving an incomplete image as if it passed.
Make visual regression screenshots repeatable
Playwright Test’s toHaveScreenshot waits for two consecutive screenshots to produce the same result before comparing the last one with the expectation. See the PageAssertions reference. Pixel stability alone does not prove that the correct price is displayed, so pair the screenshot assertion with a semantic price assertion.
Screenshot options can use a stylesheet to hide or alter unrelated dynamic content, such as a timestamp. Do not hide or mask the price when the test is meant to confirm that it appears.

Or skip the browser setup
If you need a screenshot response without building and maintaining a browser wait flow, ScreenshotNeo offers a website screenshot API and MCP server. Its API accepts one GET request; for example, using cURL:
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
See the ScreenshotNeo documentation for the API options. Cookie and consent banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets are removed before capture; each cleanup step can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and response headers identify the page verdict and billing status. The MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf for AI agents and MCP clients. The free plan includes 1,000 shots a month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is there a universal selector for a product price?
No. Inspect the target page and select a stable locator for its displayed price; the example test ID in this guide is only illustrative.
Does a successful price API response guarantee the screenshot will show the price?
Not necessarily. The interface may render after the response, so verify the visible price element before capture.
