Then lower the game’s rendering load—begin with Low graphics, 1280 × 720 resolution, Borderless Windowed mode, ray tracing off, and, if necessary, V-Sync off—testing one change at a time. Intel Core Ultra models have an additional Over Boost recommendation, but it requires BIOS 108 or newer and a restart. If one game crashes only on its first launch, high settings saved by the same account on another PC may be exhausting the Claw’s available VRAM.
Those steps cover the common, reversible fixes. Do not flash a BIOS for a different model, and do not disable Windows security features unless you understand the protection you are giving up and know how to turn it back on.

Identify the Claw model and the exact failure
“MSI Claw” describes a family of handhelds, not one hardware configuration. Intel and AMD generations can have different driver packages, BIOS files, and power-profile guidance. Before changing anything, record the model name shown in Windows or on the device label (for example, an A1M or an A8), the game and launcher, Windows version, whether the problem occurs on battery, AC power, or both, and what changed immediately before it began.

This distinction matters most for Intel-specific advice. Intel’s published performance article applies to MSI Claw systems with Intel Core Ultra processors and built-in Intel Arc graphics; it does not establish that the same driver threshold or Over Boost behavior applies to every Claw generation. MSI’s general settings guidance is broader, but its BIOS downloads remain model-specific.

Separate the symptoms
- Stuttering: the game launches, but frame delivery is uneven, with pauses or visible hitching.
- Low performance: the game runs consistently below the frame rate you want, even without obvious pauses.
- Launch failure: the game closes, hangs, or returns to the desktop before reaching its menu.
- First-launch crash: the game fails on the Claw but may have worked on another PC using the same account.
- System-level instability: MSI Center M, Quick Settings, Windows, or multiple games malfunction after a firmware or driver change.
Use the symptom that matches what you can observe; a fix for inconsistent frame pacing is not automatically a fix for a game that never starts.
Update MSI Center M, BIOS, and drivers safely
Updates should be the first technical check because a later setting change cannot correct a missing model-specific driver or firmware fix. MSI’s current general procedure is to open MSI Center M → News and Updates → Scan, review the available items for the exact Claw model, and install the applicable drivers and BIOS. Read each release note before accepting a firmware update.
- Connect the Claw to a reliable network and, preferably, AC power.
- Open MSI Center M and choose News and Updates, then Scan.
- Verify that every offered BIOS and driver belongs to your exact model and generation.
- Read the release notes for prerequisites, known issues, and the required restart.
- Start the update and leave MSI Center M open until it reports completion.
- Restart when prompted, even if Windows does not immediately require it.
- Launch the affected game only after Windows and MSI Center M have finished returning to their normal desktop state.
MSI has published a version-specific sequencing warning for MSI Center M v2.0.2509.1201: owners of the Claw A1M should update MSI Center M before installing BIOS E1T41IMS.10F. Installing that BIOS first may make Quick Settings malfunction. That notice can be superseded by newer releases, so check the current MSI Center M update list and the support page for your model before following an old sequence. Intel model driver threshold
Intel’s article for Core Ultra/Arc MSI Claw models names Intel Arc Graphics Driver 31.0.101.5444 or newer and the latest available BIOS as its published guidance. The article was last reviewed September 4, 2024; use that number as a reference point, not as proof that it is the newest package in October 2026. Check MSI’s current release for your model first, because an OEM package may include device-specific changes. Intel’s guidance is at Intel Support.

When an update appears to make things worse
Do not repeatedly flash firmware or install packages for a neighboring model. Record the BIOS version, driver version, exact error, and whether Quick Settings or MSI Center M changed behavior. Reboot once after the update, then test the same game with the Balanced settings described below. If several games and system controls fail after the same update, stop changing settings and contact MSI support with that record.
Use Balanced power settings before tuning a game
MSI recommends Balanced in MSI Center M and Balanced in Windows 11. This gives you a known baseline and avoids comparing a game run under an aggressive profile with one run under a restrictive battery profile.
- Open MSI Center M and select the User Scenario or performance-profile control.
- Choose Balanced.
- In Windows 11, open Settings → System → Power & battery and set the power mode to Balanced when that option is available.
- Apply both changes, close background launchers and overlays you do not need, and restart the game.
Test once on AC power and once on battery if the problem is power-dependent. A result that changes only when unplugged points toward a power-limit or battery-profile difference; it does not prove that the game or graphics driver is defective.
Intel Over Boost: a conditional step
For Intel Core Ultra MSI Claw models, Intel also recommends Balanced together with Over Boost. Intel states that Over Boost requires BIOS 108 or newer and that you must restart after toggling it. Use it only when your exact Intel model supports the option and its BIOS meets that requirement:

- Confirm the Claw is an Intel Core Ultra/Intel Arc model.
- Check the installed BIOS version in MSI Center M or the system information screen.
- Install the current model-specific BIOS if your version is below the required level.
- Enable Over Boost in the MSI performance controls while keeping the Windows power mode at Balanced.
- Restart before judging the result.
Over Boost is a recommendation for that Intel configuration, not a universal MSI Claw setting. Do not assume it applies to an AMD-generation device, and do not enable it while ignoring a BIOS requirement.
Lower the game’s rendering load in a controlled order
When a game launches but stutters or runs slowly, reduce the work sent to the GPU and CPU in a repeatable sequence. MSI’s example lower resolution is 1280 × 720. That is a settings example, not a guaranteed frame-rate target or benchmark.

- Open the game’s video or graphics menu.
- Set the preset to Low and ray tracing to Off.
- Set resolution to 1280 × 720 as the initial load-reduction test.
- Choose Borderless Windowed if the game offers it.
- Play the same scene or repeat the same action for several minutes.
- If stutter remains and it is associated with fluctuating frame rate, turn V-Sync Off and repeat the same test.
- Change only one option after that. Keep a note of the old and new value so you can reverse a change that harms image quality or stability.
Do not judge a setting from a different scene, save file, or multiplayer match. Streaming a new area can hitch for reasons unrelated to the average frame rate, and a setting that helps one game can have no effect in another. MSI’s guide recommends changing one setting at a time because game loads and results vary.

Choosing image quality versus smoothness
Use the smallest change that solves the symptom. If 1280 × 720 removes the hitching, you can raise resolution and retest before changing several other options. If Low preset is enough, restore individual visual options one by one to find which effect is responsible. Ray tracing is a useful early candidate to disable because it can impose a large workload, while Borderless Windowed is a reversible launch and presentation test rather than a promise of higher performance.

Fix a crash on the first launch
A first-launch crash has a distinctive cause on the Claw: MSI says that if the same game account was previously used on a PC with high graphics settings, those settings can be synchronized or retained and create excessive VRAM use on the handheld. The game may therefore fail before you can reach its own graphics menu.
- On the other PC where the account last ran the game, open the game’s graphics settings.
- Lower the preset to Low, turn ray tracing off, and choose a less demanding resolution if available.
- Save the settings and exit the game cleanly so the account or configuration can synchronize.
- On the Claw, start the game again. If supported, use Low graphics and Borderless Windowed from the launcher or first-run options.
- After the game reaches its menu, raise one setting at a time and relaunch only when the game requires it.
If you cannot access the prior PC, look for a launcher reset, cloud-save conflict prompt, or a configuration file reset documented by that game’s official support. The supplied MSI guidance establishes the high-settings/VRAM scenario, but it does not establish one universal file path or reset command for every title.

MSI says Memory integrity and Virtual Machine Platform can reduce performance in some games. They are Windows 11 security and virtualization features, not evidence of a hardware fault. Disabling them may improve a particular game’s behavior, but it also reduces security protection. Treat this as an optional diagnostic experiment after updates, power settings, and in-game load reductions—not as a default performance tweak.

- Write down which feature is currently enabled.
- Make sure you can sign in as a Windows administrator.
- Understand that turning a feature off is not a free frame-rate upgrade; the game may show no measurable improvement.
- Test one feature at a time, with the same game scene and power profile.
- Plan to re-enable the feature after testing if you want the associated protection.
Re-enable protection after the test
Use Windows Security for Memory integrity: open Windows Security → Device security → Core isolation details, turn Memory integrity back on, and restart if Windows requests it. For Virtual Machine Platform, open Windows Features from “Turn Windows features on or off,” select Virtual Machine Platform, confirm, and restart. Labels can vary slightly with Windows updates; use the feature name rather than guessing at a registry change. MSI explicitly notes that these protections must be manually re-enabled if you want them back.
Follow a symptom-based troubleshooting sequence
The game stutters but does not crash
- Confirm the exact model and whether the stutter occurs on AC, battery, or both.
- Install current MSI model-specific drivers and BIOS through MSI Center M.
- Set MSI Center M and Windows 11 to Balanced.
- For an eligible Intel model, confirm BIOS 108 or newer before testing Over Boost, then restart.
- Use Low graphics, 1280 × 720, ray tracing off, and Borderless Windowed.
- Test V-Sync off if the stutter follows frame-rate fluctuations.
- Change one option at a time and repeat the same scene.
The game closes before the menu
- Check whether the same account used high settings on another PC.
- Lower those settings on the prior PC, or use the game’s low-settings first-launch path.
- Try Borderless Windowed if the launcher exposes that option.
- Verify that the BIOS and graphics driver belong to the Claw model.
- Capture the exact crash message and launcher name if it still fails.
Several games fail after an update
Check whether MSI Center M, Quick Settings, or Windows also changed behavior. For an A1M affected by the MSI Center M v2.0.2509.1201 notice, verify the update sequence around BIOS E1T41IMS.10F rather than repeating the BIOS flash. Record the versions and contact MSI support if system controls remain broken.
Only one game remains broken
The cited MSI and Intel guidance does not establish a universal fix for every title. Check that game’s published system requirements and official platform support, then provide the developer or MSI with the model, Windows version, launcher, exact error text, BIOS and driver versions, whether the failure is on AC or battery, and the date of the last update. This information distinguishes a title-specific compatibility problem from a handheld-wide fault.
What not to assume
- Do not apply Intel Arc driver advice to an AMD-generation Claw without confirming the hardware.
- Do not install a BIOS intended for a different model or skip the release-note sequence.
- Do not treat 1280 × 720, Low graphics, or Over Boost as guaranteed performance numbers; they are published settings guidance.
- Do not disable Memory integrity or Virtual Machine Platform automatically. The performance/security trade-off is real, and the protections do not return by themselves.
- Do not expect a discrete-GPU mode-switching fix designed for another type of laptop. The cited Claw guidance does not recommend such a switch.
- Do not change five graphics options at once; you will not know which change helped or caused a new problem.
When to stop troubleshooting locally
Escalate when the problem survives current model-specific updates, Balanced profiles, and the low-load graphics test—or when MSI Center M, Quick Settings, Windows, and multiple games fail together. Include the exact Claw model, BIOS and driver versions, Windows version, game and launcher, AC/battery status, recent update history, reproducible steps, and screenshots or exact error text. That record is more useful to support than a statement that the device is simply “slow.”
