That comparison helps separate a home Wi-Fi problem from trouble elsewhere between your computer and YouTube—but neither a speed test nor a single warning proves where the fault is.
What the symptoms do—and don’t—tell you
In OBS, rising network-dropped frames indicate that frames are not reaching the streaming service reliably. YouTube’s Live Control Room may also report “not receiving enough video.” Google’s API describes the related videoIngestionStarved status this way: “YouTube is not receiving enough video to maintain smooth streaming. As such, viewers will experience buffering.” Google’s YouTube Live Streaming API health-status documentation treats this as an ingestion symptom, not a diagnosis of whether the fault is your Wi-Fi, router, ISP access network, upstream route, or YouTube ingestion.

A speed-test result is only a snapshot of a test connection and moment. It does not establish that the route used by your live stream will deliver the encoder’s bitrate continuously, or that packet loss is occurring. Record evidence during the actual failure window before changing several settings at once.

Capture a baseline before troubleshooting
Keep the encoder configuration unchanged while collecting a baseline. Record the date and time, whether the streaming computer is on Wi-Fi or Ethernet, OBS’s network-dropped-frame count or percentage, the stream bitrate behavior, and the exact YouTube health message. Note whether another device or service was uploading at the time.

- Repeat the observation during the time the problem usually occurs and at a quieter time; intermittent congestion can be missed by a short test.
- Save timestamped OBS statistics and screenshots or text of YouTube’s health messages. These make later comparisons and an ISP support request more useful.
- Do not label the issue “packet loss” solely from a fluctuating speed test. Use the encoder and YouTube indicators to establish that the stream is having delivery trouble, then isolate possible segments.
Check the 4K60 encoder settings
YouTube Help’s encoder guidance, accessed in 2026, lists these bitrates for 2160p at 60 fps. They are video encoder recommendations, not guaranteed upload requirements for every route or a promise that a connection can sustain them. Check that the selected codec is supported by your encoder and YouTube ingest workflow, and that the video is configured for a constant bitrate (CBR). YouTube’s guidance recommends a two-second keyframe interval and says not to exceed four seconds. A too-long keyframe interval can trigger buffering or keyframe health warnings; it is different from a network-dropped-frame diagnosis.

- Compare the encoder’s selected resolution, frame rate, codec, and bitrate with the stream you intend to send.
- Do not lower bitrate blindly if YouTube is reporting a keyframe or other encoder-setting issue; address the specific health message.
- Do not assume matching a recommended bitrate solves an unstable route. The connection needs headroom and consistent delivery beyond the encoder’s nominal video bitrate.
YouTube recommends RTMP or RTMPS and a realistic test stream. Its help page says: “Make sure that you test before you start your live stream. Tests should include audio and movement in the video similar to what you’ll be doing in the stream.” Monitor stream health during that test and the live event. YouTube’s documented low-latency option is not available for 4K; 4K streams use normal latency.
Compare Wi-Fi with direct Ethernet
- Keep the settings fixed. Use the same resolution, frame rate, codec, bitrate, and test content for both observations.
- Connect the streaming computer to the router by Ethernet. If you do not have a suitable cable, a Cat 6 cable can be a practical way to make this diagnostic comparison; it is not a cure for faults beyond the local wireless segment.
- Pause competing uploads. Temporarily stop cloud backups, file uploads, and other large transfers during the controlled test.
- Repeat during the problem period. Compare OBS dropped frames and YouTube’s exact health messages with the baseline, then repeat at a quieter time if possible.
If the symptom disappears only over Ethernet, investigate Wi-Fi signal, interference, router placement, or local wireless congestion before buying a router or mesh system. If it persists while wired, Wi-Fi is less likely to be the only cause. The remaining path can include the computer, router, ISP access network, upstream route, or YouTube ingestion; the comparison narrows possibilities but does not identify the responsible party with certainty.

Use YouTube health messages to choose the next check
YouTube distinguishes among bitrate, keyframe, and ingestion-health issues. Read the wording in Live Control Room rather than treating every warning as proof of broadband packet loss.
- Bitrate warning: Check the encoder’s video settings and compare the selected bitrate with YouTube’s codec-specific guidance above.
- Keyframe warning: Check the keyframe interval. YouTube recommends two seconds and says it should not exceed four seconds.
- “Not receiving enough video” or ingestion starvation: Compare OBS network-dropped frames, test wired versus Wi-Fi, and remove competing uploads. This means insufficient video is arriving smoothly at ingestion, not that YouTube has pinpointed the fault segment.
When to contact your ISP in India
If repeated tests still show unstable delivery while the computer is wired and competing uploads are paused, open a support ticket with your provider. Include the timestamps, connection type, OBS statistics, exact YouTube warning text, and the results of your Wi-Fi-versus-Ethernet and busy-versus-quieter-time comparisons. Ask the provider to check the access connection and route during the affected period. Avoid blaming a particular Indian ISP or city without measurements tied to that connection.

TRAI’s 2024 Quality of Service regulation, dated 2 August 2024, includes latency, jitter, and packet-drop parameters. The Government of India’s announcement about the revised rules said the changes would support identification of degraded QoS pockets for corrective action by providers. TRAI also lists wireline broadband performance reporting for the quarter ending June 2026. These are regulatory and aggregate provider-reporting contexts, not an individualized end-to-end route test or diagnosis of your subscriber line.
