First check whether OBS is actually dropping frames. If its dropped-frame count rises, troubleshoot the connection from your computer to YouTube’s ingest server; if OBS stays connected with no drops, investigate YouTube’s stream health and the viewers’ playback conditions instead. Test over Ethernet, then set OBS’s bitrate to fit your stable upload speed—not your plan’s advertised download speed. A prerecorded playlist still has to be encoded and sent as a live feed.
Identify where the buffering happens
OBS reports dropped frames or a worsening connection
During the stream, watch OBS’s dropped-frame count and connection status. A rising dropped-frame count points to an unstable or insufficient connection between OBS and YouTube’s ingest server. OBS Project says, “It is extremely unlikely for OBS Studio to cause dropped frames.” Its guide attributes them to the connection between the computer and the remote ingest server. Read OBS’s connection troubleshooting guide.

OBS is stable, but viewers see buffering
If OBS shows no dropped frames, do not assume your Tata Play Fiber connection is the cause. Ask which viewers, devices, and networks buffer, and check YouTube Live Control Room for stream-health warnings. Playback can be affected by YouTube’s latency setting and by a viewer’s device or network. YouTube notes that lower latency can mean more playback buffering; see its live-stream latency settings and OBS’s viewer-buffering guidance.

Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteRun a representative wired test
- Reproduce the real stream. Use the intended playlist, scene setup, resolution, frame rate, and a segment with representative motion and audio. Monitor OBS and YouTube’s stream health during the test.
- Connect the streaming computer to the Tata Play Fiber router or ONT by Ethernet. Compare a wired speed test with Wi-Fi from the same computer. A Cat 6 Ethernet cable is one practical way to make this comparison; it isolates Wi-Fi as a possible problem but cannot guarantee a fix for ISP congestion or a route issue.
- Repeat at different times. Note whether upload performance or dropped frames change during busier periods. Pause unnecessary downloads and other heavy network use during the test.
- Record the evidence. Note the time, OBS dropped-frame count and connection status, YouTube health messages, connection type, and speed-test results. Tata Play Fiber’s FAQ recommends comparing Wi-Fi and LAN, testing at different times, reducing competing devices, and restarting the router.
Wi-Fi results can vary with distance, walls, interference, device capability, and the number of connected devices, according to Tata Play Fiber. A wired test is a useful diagnostic before considering new networking equipment. The provider’s general troubleshooting guidance does not establish a YouTube-specific defect on your line.

Set OBS bitrate to fit stable upload
Use actual, repeatable upload results from the wired connection—not the advertised download speed—to choose a stream bitrate. YouTube recommends keeping 20% of upload bandwidth available beyond the total stream bitrate. That is YouTube’s published guidance; the page does not show a publication year. If upload speed varies, lower the stream’s resolution or frame rate until the connection can sustain the bitrate with headroom.
For H.264, YouTube’s current settings table recommends 5 Mbps video bitrate for 1080p at 30 fps and 3 Mbps for 720p at 30 fps. It specifies CBR and recommends a two-second keyframe interval. These are examples for those particular codec, resolution, and frame-rate combinations, not universal settings. Check YouTube’s encoder settings table for the intended format before changing OBS.

- DUAL-BAND WIFI 6 ROUTER: Wi-Fi 6(802.11ax) technology achieves faster speeds, greater capacity and reduced network congestion compared to the previous gen. All WiFi routers require a separate modem. Dual-Band WiFi routers do not support the 6 GHz band.
- AX1800: Enjoy smoother and more stable streaming, gaming, downloading with 1.8 Gbps total bandwidth (up to 1200 Mbps on 5 GHz and up to 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz). Performance varies by conditions, distance to devices, and obstacles such as walls.
- CONNECT MORE DEVICES: Wi-Fi 6 technology communicates more data to more devices simultaneously using revolutionary OFDMA technology
- EXTENSIVE COVERAGE: Achieve the strong, reliable WiFi coverage with Archer AX1800 as it focuses signal strength to your devices far away using Beamforming technology, 4 high-gain antennas and an advanced front-end module (FEM) chipset
- OUR CYBERSECURITY COMMITMENT: TP-Link is a signatory of the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency’s (CISA) Secure-by-Design pledge. This device is designed, built, and maintained, with advanced security as a core requirement.
- Do not set bitrate from the broadband plan’s headline speed: sustained upload capacity is what matters for sending the feed.
- Use YouTube’s recommended bitrate for the selected H.264 resolution and frame rate as a reference, while preserving its recommended upload headroom.
- If the wired upload fluctuates or OBS still drops frames, reduce resolution or frame rate and retest rather than raising bitrate.
YouTube’s broader streaming tips explain bandwidth headroom and encoder setup. Recommendations can change, so consult the live YouTube tables when configuring a stream.
Check YouTube ingest and playback settings
- Open YouTube Live Control Room and inspect the stream-health indicator and any timestamped warnings. Compare their times with OBS’s connection changes and dropped-frame count.
- Confirm that OBS is sending the format YouTube expects, including the selected encoder settings and keyframe interval. YouTube’s encoder guidance identifies incorrect stream format and keyframe configuration as possible ingestion problems.
- If OBS output is stable but viewers report buffering, review the stream’s latency setting. YouTube cautions that lower latency may reduce the playback buffer; consider normal latency when smooth playback matters more than minimizing delay.
- Ask affected viewers to test another device or network. If only some viewers are affected while OBS and YouTube report a healthy stream, the problem may be on their playback path rather than the creator’s upload connection.
Rule out local software and router issues
- Temporarily test without a VPN, then restore it if it is required. A VPN can change the route OBS uses to reach YouTube.
- Check whether firewall, security, or vendor network-boost software is interfering with OBS or deprioritizing its traffic. Do not permanently disable security protections.
- Keep network drivers current and restart the router as part of the provider’s suggested troubleshooting.
- Pause other high-bandwidth activity during a test to see whether household load affects the stream.
These checks help isolate possible local causes; they do not demonstrate a general Tata Play Fiber fault or a guaranteed fix for a particular route.

When to contact Tata Play Fiber or OBS support
If OBS continues to drop frames on Ethernet at multiple times, contact Tata Play Fiber with the timestamps, wired and Wi-Fi speed-test results, OBS log or connection messages, and YouTube stream-health warnings. This gives support a specific window and evidence to investigate. OBS also recommends contacting the ISP when its connection checks do not resolve dropped frames.
Tata Play Fiber’s citizens charter lists packet loss under 1% as a wireline service benchmark as of March 31, 2025. That is a provider benchmark, not a measurement of your line or a guarantee about the route to YouTube. See the Tata Play Fiber citizens charter.
