Start the encoder again if it is stopped; do not reset your stream key unless OBS or YouTube reports a key or configuration error. OBS and YouTube do not promise that every outage will recover automatically or leave the event in the same state.
Restore the connection in the right order
OBS sends your video directly to YouTube; it does not use an OBS-operated intermediary streaming server. That means a broadband interruption can affect the path from your computer to YouTube even if your Wi-Fi reconnects. Work through these checks in order rather than changing the stream key or creating a new event immediately.

- Confirm usable internet, not just Wi-Fi. Open a few sites or services and confirm they load reliably. A device showing that it is connected to Wi-Fi does not prove that the route to YouTube is healthy. If practical, compare another connection; mobile data may incur charges.
- Check OBS’s streaming status. Look at the connection indicator and dropped-frame count. If OBS is not streaming, start the encoder feed again. The exact button and event state depend on how you set up the stream.
- Check YouTube Live Control Room. Open the intended scheduled event and look for the encoder preview, stream-health status, and any error message. A connected encoder and a live, viewable YouTube event are separate checks. For a scheduled stream, YouTube’s setup flow may require you to wait for the preview and select Go live.
- Match the event before making a replacement. Check whether the original scheduled event is still the one you intend to use. Do not create a new event simply because OBS briefly disconnected.
- Change credentials only for a credential error. Compare OBS’s stream URL and key with the values shown for the intended event in Live Control Room. If YouTube or OBS identifies a key/configuration problem, reset the key in Live Control Room and update the encoder. A broadband outage by itself is not a reason to reset it.
YouTube recommends RTMPS, a secure extension of RTMP, for streaming to YouTube Live. Follow the server and stream-key details shown for your event when configuring OBS.
Diagnose OBS reconnecting, offline status, or dropped frames
OBS is stopped or not sending
If OBS’s status shows that it is not streaming, start the encoder feed and watch for a connection indicator. Then check Live Control Room for a preview and stream health. If the preview appears but the event is not live, follow the event’s on-screen controls; a scheduled stream may still need you to select Go live.

OBS says it is reconnecting, but YouTube is offline
Give the connection a moment to stabilize, then check both OBS and Live Control Room again. If OBS remains disconnected, inspect its connection settings and the event’s server/key values. Do not treat “reconnecting” as proof that YouTube has received the feed or that the event has resumed.
OBS reconnects, but frames keep dropping
OBS says dropped frames indicate that the connection to the remote server is unstable or cannot sustain the configured bitrate; too many can disconnect the stream. OBS Project’s connection guide says, “It is extremely unlikely for OBS Studio to cause dropped frames.” First investigate the network route and bitrate rather than reinstalling OBS.

- Use a stable upload-speed result, not only a brief best-case speed test. OBS Project’s 2024 guidance suggests 75% of total upload speed as a starting point for video bitrate; this is a rule of thumb, not a guaranteed safe setting.
- YouTube recommends leaving 20% upload bandwidth headroom beyond the total stream bitrate. Treat that as capacity to reserve, not as a promise that a line with sufficient headline speed will remain stable.
- If the connection cannot keep up, lower the bitrate in OBS and check whether dropped frames stop. Balance the lower bitrate against the resolution and image quality you need.
- YouTube recommends a two-second keyframe interval, and says not to exceed four seconds. This is encoder configuration guidance, not a repair for a broadband outage.
OBS reports an invalid key or connection setting
In OBS, compare the configured stream service/server and key against the intended YouTube event in Live Control Room. Correct a mismatch there. Reset the YouTube key only if the key is invalid or compromised, then replace the old value in OBS; resetting it will not repair an unstable broadband route.
Check the home network before changing equipment
- Try Ethernet. OBS recommends a wired connection for streaming. If you already have a suitable cable, test with it instead of Wi-Fi. Consider a Cat 6 Ethernet cable only if your existing cable is damaged or you need a wired test; it cannot fix an ISP outage.
- Restart the modem/router. If the connection remains unstable after service returns, restart the network equipment and retest. If you are unsure whether equipment needs replacement, OBS advises consulting your ISP before replacing hardware.
- Check interference from software and settings. Temporarily investigate VPNs, security software, network-optimization tools, drivers, and cables as possible causes. Change one item at a time so you can tell whether it affects the connection.
- Use OBS’s Windows-only network options cautiously. OBS documents network optimizations and TCP pacing settings for Windows. It suggests leaving Bind to IP at Default. You can test IPv4 Only, but if it makes no difference, return to the IPv4/IPv6 default.
- Treat dynamic bitrate as a fallback. It may reduce quality to keep a feed going when bandwidth fluctuates, but it does not repair the underlying connection problem.
When to contact your Indian broadband provider
If the broadband line repeatedly fails, or multiple services are affected, the problem may be outside OBS and your home setup. Contact your ISP with the outage time, symptoms, whether other services also failed, and the relevant OBS log. OBS notes that route congestion and ISP-side changes can be beyond a creator’s control. There is no special Indian broadband reconnect setting established by the official OBS and YouTube guidance covered here.
