To find and fix OBS audio crackling, first locate where it enters: the microphone or other source, OBS monitoring, the local recording, or YouTube playback. Make a short test recording while reproducing the noise, compare those points, and change settings only when the evidence points to them. There is no established India-specific OBS fix; investigate your source and encoder first, then the internet connection if the local output is clean but the live stream is not.
Find where the crackle starts
Before changing settings or buying equipment, reproduce the problem in a short test. Listen to the input outside OBS if possible, OBS monitoring, a local OBS recording, and the YouTube stream. Note whether the crackle is continuous or appears only under load, with a particular scene or source, or after you go live.

- The input is already noisy before OBS: inspect that microphone or device, its connection, and its driver or settings.
- Only one OBS source is noisy: check that the intended device is selected and routed correctly, then test that source by itself.
- OBS monitoring crackles but the local recording is clean: investigate the selected monitoring device and its routing. Buffer buildup has been discussed as one possible monitoring synchronization issue, but it is not a universal explanation for crackling.
- The local recording is also noisy: focus on the source, OBS routing and device formats, and system load.
- The local recording is clean but YouTube playback is not: check Live Control Room stream health and messages, then test the outbound connection.
YouTube’s audio-quality troubleshooting advises checking the sources routed to the encoder, encoder errors, CPU load, and a local archive. A crackling symptom by itself does not establish that a microphone, interface, cable, or OBS setting is faulty.

Confirm the intended audio source
In OBS, verify that the microphone or interface you want is being captured. Check that a webcam microphone or another unused input is not unintentionally mixed in. If a single source appears responsible, test it alone before changing the rest of the mix.

Compare OBS and device formats
Compare the sample rate shown in OBS Settings → Audio with the operating-system format for the selected audio device and, where applicable, the interface control panel. Use formats the device actually supports and check the relevant device guidance before changing them.
A community OBS forum case describes a 48 kHz OBS setup paired with a 16 kHz microphone and recommends consistent formats. That is a clue for a similar configuration, not proof that every crackle comes from a sample-rate mismatch. Do not assume that setting every device to 48 kHz is the right fix for your hardware.

Use YouTube’s encoder values in context
For RTMP/RTMPS, YouTube’s advanced encoder guidance lists AAC or MP3 audio, a 44.1 kHz sample rate for stereo and 48 kHz for 5.1 surround sound. It lists 128 Kbps for stereo audio and 384 Kbps for 5.1. These are published encoder recommendations, not evidence that a particular setting will cure a crackle.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteYouTube’s separate audio-error guidance says the ingestion stream should contain one audio stream—not zero or multiple—and directs creators to correct audio-setting errors. Treat that separately from the forum example: check your actual OBS output and device capabilities rather than conflating a device-format mismatch with YouTube’s published encoder values.

- PLUG IN AND HEAR SOUND IN SECONDS - USB Type-A connector with a 3.5mm stereo headphone output and a separate 3.5mm mono microphone input. No drivers, no software, no external power - the adapter is USB bus-powered and is recognized as a standard USB audio device.
- WORKS ON WINDOWS, MAC AND LINUX - Driverless on Windows 98SE/ME/2000/XP/Server 2003/Vista/7/8, Linux and Mac OSX, and compliant with the USB Audio Device Class 1.0 specification, so any system that supports class-compliant USB audio will see it. Select it as the sound output and input device after plugging it in.
- TWO JACKS, TWO JOBS - The green jack is stereo OUT for headphones or powered speakers; the pink jack is mono microphone IN for a 3.5mm mic. It does NOT support 4-pole headsets on a single combo plug, it does NOT power passive speakers, and it does NOT add surround sound - it is a stereo 2-channel adapter.
- FOR LAPTOPS AND DESKTOPS THAT NEED AN AUDIO PORT BACK - Adds a headphone and mic port to a laptop, desktop, or mini PC whose onboard jack has failed or was never there. Managed and work-issued computers can block new USB audio devices by policy - check with your IT department before ordering for a company machine.
- SABRENT SUPPORT AND WARRANTY - What is in the box: one USB audio sound adapter. Backed by a 1-year limited warranty, extended to 2 years when you register within 90 days on the manufacturer's website.
Check OBS, YouTube, and the connection
- Check OBS logs and encoder status. Look for audio or encoder errors around the time the noise occurs.
- Check CPU load. YouTube advises checking system load when investigating poor audio or video. If the crackle appears only under load, compare a recording or stream with fewer active sources or effects to see whether the symptom changes.
- Read Live Control Room messages and stream health. Use the reported status to distinguish an encoder or source problem from a delivery issue.
- Test outbound connectivity if local output is clean. YouTube recommends testing the connection when encoder output appears healthy but the stream does not. If that test indicates a problem, contact your internet service provider.
Do not raise video bitrate as a speculative audio-crackle fix. YouTube’s guidance distinguishes source and encoder issues from outbound connection problems; make a change only when an observed error or controlled comparison supports it.
Run a realistic test before the shop promotion
YouTube recommends testing before the event with audio and movement similar to the intended stream, checking stream health and messages, previewing before starting, and monitoring audio and video continuously. For a shop promo, rehearse the actual speech, product demonstration sounds, planned music, scene changes, and monitoring route. If available, check playback on a second device as well as the computer running OBS.

Troubleshooting: match the symptom to the next check
| What you hear | Where to investigate first |
|---|---|
| Crackle is audible in the source before OBS | That device, its connection, driver, and settings. |
| Only one OBS input crackles | That source’s selection and routing; test it by itself. |
| OBS monitoring crackles, but the local recording is clean | The chosen monitoring device and its routing; monitoring buffer buildup is one possible, configuration-specific issue. |
| The OBS recording and monitoring both crackle | Source quality, routing, device formats, and system load. |
| Local recording is clean, but YouTube playback crackles | Live Control Room stream health and messages, encoder status, and outbound connectivity. |
If the cause remains unclear, compare which source and scene were active, where the symptom appears, whether OBS and device sample rates agree, whether OBS reports errors or high CPU load, and whether YouTube reports a stream-health or delivery problem. The operating system, OBS version, device model, and logs all affect diagnosis, so no single hardware replacement is established as the right answer for every setup.
