The Farming Simulator message “No connection could be established to the multiplayer game” is usually a network problem, not proof that the game installation is damaged. Start by removing unstable connections, then check the host’s router and firewall, disable VPN or proxy interference, and make sure every player has the same game version, required mods and DLC.
The order matters: identify whether the failure affects the host or a joining player, test a clean connection, and change one variable at a time. GIANTS Software’s current support guidance specifically warns against mobile hotspots and public Wi‑Fi and lists three UDP ports to check when a PC is hosting.

What the error means
GIANTS Software describes “No connection could be established to the multiplayer game” as a message that usually indicates a network-related issue. Farming Simulator multiplayer needs a reliable, uninterrupted connection; a connection that works for browsing or voice chat can still fail when the game cannot maintain its multiplayer session.

The wording is not a diagnosis by itself. Forum discussions show the same type of failure across Farming Simulator 17, Farming Simulator 19 and newer multiplayer situations. Some players have reported the message continuing after reinstalling the game or changing firewall and forwarding settings. That variation means you should treat the error as a symptom and work through the possible paths below rather than assuming one universal fix.

Use this order for the first troubleshooting pass
- Write down the exact context. Note which player is hosting, which player cannot join, the platform used by each person, whether the installation is from Steam or a standalone edition, and the exact error wording. Record whether the session uses mods or downloadable content (DLC).
- Test a stable connection for both players. Stop using a mobile hotspot or public Wi‑Fi for the test. Connect through a dependable private internet connection and retry the same session.
- Confirm that the host is really running the session. The host must have started the intended multiplayer game or server and must have configured it for the other player to join. A join attempt against a stopped or incorrectly configured host produces the same broad symptom as other network failures.
- Remove VPN or proxy variables. Temporarily disconnect VPN software and bypass proxy settings on the participating devices while diagnosing. Reconnect the VPN only after a direct test works.
- Check game-version, mod and DLC parity. Every participant must be on the same game version and have matching required mods and DLC. Resolve these differences before changing router settings.
- If a PC is hosting, inspect the router and firewall. Check that the host’s network rules permit the game traffic and that the UDP ports listed in the table below are handled correctly by the router and firewall.
- Retest after each change. Keep a short record of what changed and whether the result changed. This prevents a successful fix from being lost among several simultaneous alterations.
- Escalate with useful evidence. If the official checks do not resolve the problem, contact GIANTS support with the platform, exact error text and the host’s
log.txtfile.
Identify whether the host or the client is the problem
Multiplayer has two network roles. The host publishes or runs the session; the client is the player trying to join. A failure affecting only one joining player points toward that player’s connection, firewall, VPN or version. A failure affecting everyone who tries to join points more strongly toward the host’s router, firewall, server state or configuration.
Ask one other participant to try the same session, if possible. If that person can join while one player cannot, focus on the unsuccessful player’s connection and software environment. If nobody can join, leave the client device alone and inspect the host path first. This comparison does not prove the cause, but it narrows the checks without changing several systems at once.
Connection and network checks
Use a dependable private connection
GIANTS advises avoiding mobile hotspots and public Wi‑Fi for Farming Simulator multiplayer. These networks can introduce interruptions or restrictions that are outside your control. For diagnosis, use a stable private connection for both players, then retry the same host and session. Do not use a different game version or mod set during this test, or you will be testing multiple variables simultaneously.

Check the PC host’s UDP handling
When a PC is hosting, GIANTS Software’s current support guidance identifies these UDP ports for checking:

Inspect both layers that can block traffic:
- Router: Review the port-forwarding or inbound-traffic rules for the computer hosting the game. Confirm that the rules point to the current host device, not an old local address.
- Host firewall: Check that the game and its required network traffic are allowed. A rule that permits browsing but blocks the game does not solve the multiplayer path.
Router menus differ by manufacturer and firmware, so the labels may be “port forwarding,” “virtual server” or a similar term. Do not create broad, unrelated rules while troubleshooting. Check the listed UDP ports and the host firewall together, then run a fresh join test.
A GIANTS forum discussion also recommends checking firewall and port forwarding on both the client and host. That is a practical forum observation rather than a guarantee for every platform, but it is useful when the host appears correctly configured and one or more clients still cannot connect.

GIANTS includes VPN or proxy interference among the items to remove during diagnosis. Disconnect the VPN or bypass the proxy on the affected device, restart the game session and try again. If the connection works only when the VPN is disabled, the VPN path is part of the problem; consult that service’s split-tunneling or game-traffic settings rather than changing the Farming Simulator installation.

Do not treat a failed test with a VPN enabled as evidence that the host ports are wrong. First establish whether a direct connection works.
Match versions, mods and DLC before changing advanced settings
Every participant needs the same game version. A host and client on different versions may fail before a normal multiplayer session is established, even when their internet connections are fine.
Required mods must also match. Compare the host’s active mod list with each participant’s list, including versions of those mods. Remove a mod from the test session only if the host can do so without changing the intended save; otherwise create a clean test session with the same base game version and no optional content. The purpose is to determine whether the connection works before reintroducing the mod set.
DLC parity matters as well. Confirm that every participant has the required downloadable content for the session. A player who lacks required DLC should correct that mismatch before interpreting the error as a router failure.

Confirm that the host server is running and correctly configured
A player can receive a connection error when the intended host is not actually running the session, has ended it, or has configured it differently from what the client expects. Before editing firewall rules, have the host start the multiplayer game or server again and verify the session details.
- Confirm the host is using the intended save and multiplayer mode.
- Confirm the session is still running when the client selects it.
- Confirm the host has not changed the mod or DLC requirements between attempts.
- Have the host remain in the session while the client retries, so a shutdown is not mistaken for a network failure.
If the host can play locally but no participant can join, treat the host configuration, router and firewall as the primary scope. If several participants can join and only one cannot, return to that client’s connection, VPN, firewall and version checks.

One forum user reported fixing a Farming Simulator 19 case by changing DNS to 8.8.8.8 after observing a certificate error. That is an individual report, not an official or universal remedy. DNS changes can also affect other devices and applications, so do not make them before completing the stable-connection, host, firewall, port, VPN and content-parity checks.

If you do test that DNS value, record the original DNS setting first so you can restore it. Change the setting only on the affected connection, retry the same session, and compare the result. If there is no improvement, restore the previous setting rather than treating DNS as a permanent requirement for Farming Simulator.
Why reinstalling often does not answer this error
Forum discussions include reports of persistent failures after reinstalling the game and after changing firewall or forwarding settings. A reinstall changes local files, but it does not automatically repair an unstable internet connection, a VPN route, a stopped host, a router rule aimed at the wrong device, or a mismatch in versions, mods or DLC. It can therefore consume time without testing the relevant network path.
Use reinstalling only when other evidence points to damaged local files or an installation-specific problem. For the connection message itself, the ordered checks above provide more useful information first.
What to send GIANTS support when the checks fail
After completing the official checks, provide a concise diagnostic record instead of only reporting that multiplayer does not work. Include:
- The exact error text: “No connection could be established to the multiplayer game.”
- The platform for every participant and whether the PC installation is from Steam or standalone.
- The Farming Simulator version or generation involved, such as FS17, FS19 or a newer release.
- Which player is hosting and whether any participant can join.
- Whether the test used a private connection without a mobile hotspot, public Wi‑Fi, VPN or proxy.
- Whether versions, required mods and DLC were matched.
- Whether the host router and firewall were checked, including the listed UDP ports when a PC hosted.
- The host’s
log.txtfile, as requested in GIANTS’ support guidance.
This information lets support distinguish a host-side pattern from a single-client failure and avoids repeating checks that have already been completed.
A compact decision path
- Only one player fails to join: test that player’s private connection, firewall, VPN or proxy, version, mods and DLC.
- Everyone fails to join a PC host: verify that the host session is running, then inspect the host router and firewall and check the three UDP ports listed above.
- Failure occurs only with a VPN or proxy enabled: treat that network path as the variable and configure or disable it for multiplayer.
- Failure follows a content mismatch: bring versions, required mods and DLC into parity before repeating network tests.
- Failure remains across FS17, FS19 or newer contexts after the checks: document the environment and send the exact error and
log.txtto GIANTS support.
Bottom line
Start with a stable private connection and a running, correctly configured host. Then remove VPN or proxy interference, match game versions, mods and DLC, and check the host firewall and router—especially UDP ports 10823, 10824 and 10825 when a PC hosts. The message alone cannot identify the root cause, so a controlled sequence and a complete support report are more reliable than repeated reinstalls.
