Tightening or replacing the wrong part will not solve the cause. Check the setup in that order, then repair or change only the component that is moving.
Find where the movement starts
Watch the screen, its stand or arm, the desktop, and the desk frame while you gently press the desk. If the desk has height-adjustment controls, observe whether it sways as it moves. Check whether the desk sits level and whether its feet contact the floor evenly.

- The whole desk rocks: Check floor contact and leveling, then inspect the frame and its fasteners. Address structural sway before changing the monitor hardware.
- The desktop moves but the frame stays steady: The surface may flex or bounce, especially where a monitor-arm clamp is attached.
- The screen moves while the desk stays still: Inspect the stand, arm joints, clamp or grommet, and VESA fasteners.
Also check cable slack. A cable pulled taut can tug on the display or arm, particularly when you reposition the screen or raise and lower an adjustable desk. Leave enough slack for the full range of movement.

Inspect both the connection between the display and stand and the connection between the stand column and base. A loose screw at either point can let the screen wobble. Use the assembly instructions for your exact monitor: stand designs and fasteners differ, so do not force a screw or substitute hardware by guesswork.

LG’s guide distinguishes several Ergo stand designs. On the described one-click stand, seat the top of the stand body in the upper slot first, then press the lower part until it clicks. On the described clamp-style Ergo stand, fit the clamp to the desktop thickness and tighten its handle underneath. Those steps apply to the LG designs in the guide, not necessarily to other monitors; consult the instructions for your model. LG’s stand installation guide covers these arrangements.

Inspect a monitor arm and its desk attachment
Check that a desk clamp or grommet is fully seated and secure, then inspect the arm joints and the screws connecting the monitor to its VESA plate. If the arm has a gas spring, set its tension according to the manufacturer’s instructions for the screen’s weight. A poorly fitted mount, loose joints, or loose fittings can contribute to screen shake; Fellowes’ installation guidance also advises checking desk thickness and strength, mount fit, and screen weight before installation.

A clamp may shift if it is not tight, or if the surface compresses or slips under load. SIIG identifies those as possible causes when a monitor-arm base moves. When a reinforcement plate can help
If the clamp area flexes or compresses, a compatible reinforcement plate can spread the load across a larger area. It is not a fix for a desk that rocks or lacks structural strength. SIIG recommends an adjustable reinforcement bracket plate for a mount leaning because the desk lacks structural integrity, or moving the mount to a stronger desk. Check that any plate fits the desk and mount before installation.
Choose a mounting arrangement that suits the desk
Changing mount style can help when the diagnosis points to leverage or vibration transfer, but no arrangement guarantees that all movement will stop. The practical tradeoffs below are qualitative, as described by KTC’s mounting comparison.

- Compatible with Wide Screens - To ensure compatibility with the dual monitor mount, your each monitor must meet three conditions at the same time: First, computer screens size range: 13 to 32 inches. Second, screen weight range: 4.4 to 19.8 lbs. Third, the back of the monitor screen must have VESA mounting holes with a pitch of 75x75mm or 100x100mm.
- Regarding the compatibility with desks - Your desk must meet three conditions at the same time: First, desk material: Only wooden desks are recommended, plastic or glass desks cannot be used. Second, desk thickness range: 0.59" - 3.54". Third, the bottom of the desk should not have any cross beams or panels, as this will interfere with installation. We recommend carefully checking that your desk and monitors meets all above conditions before purchasing.
- Dual C-Clamp Hold - Worried your dual monitors might wobble or slip? Our upgraded base uses a larger platform plus a dual C-clamp structure to lock the dual monitor arm firmly to your desk. Each arm safely keeps your screens steady while you type, click and game—no shaking, no sliding, just a clean and secure setup you can trust every day. Built-in cable management guides wires along the arms, keeping cords out of sight and out of the way. Enjoy a tidy, modern workstation that looks as good as it feels to use.
| Mounting option | What it changes | Tradeoff |
|---|---|---|
| Fixed stand | Keeps the screen closer to the desktop, usually with less leverage than an extended desk arm. | Takes up desk space; the screen can still move if the desktop bounces. |
| Desk arm | Lets you reposition the display and frees desktop space. | An extended arm can amplify movement from a flexible desk or clamp area. |
| Grommet mount | Attaches through a suitable hole in the desk, if the mount supports that method. | Requires a compatible mount and desk hole; the desk still needs to be strong enough. |
| Wall mount | Can isolate the monitor from vibration traveling through the desk. | It stays fixed in place and is less suitable if the screen must move with a sit-stand desk. |
Check compatibility before replacing a mount
Before buying an arm or other mount, verify that it suits both the monitor and the desk. A replacement is not a cure for movement caused by a weak or unstable desk.
