The fix depends on what is actually locked. If Facebook or Instagram is inaccessible, start with Meta’s official account-recovery flow and any support option shown in the app or Help Center. If WhatsApp cannot deliver a verification code because you lost the phone number or SIM, your wireless carrier must restore that number; Meta AI cannot replace carrier verification. Meta AI’s support assistant is still limited by country, platform, rollout stage and case eligibility, so it may not appear when you need it.
First identify which access problem you have
“Meta AI can’t access my account” can describe several unrelated failures. A Facebook password problem, an Instagram security checkpoint, a WhatsApp number-verification failure and a Meta Account sign-in for Quest or AI glasses do not use the same recovery path. Sending the wrong problem through the wrong flow wastes attempts and can trigger additional security delays.

What Meta AI support can and cannot do
Meta says its support assistant is available in countries and territories where Meta AI is available on Facebook and Instagram. It can appear in the iOS and Android apps and in the desktop Help Center. Meta has also described login-help access as a selective rollout that began with certain cases in the United States and Canada. Location, language, platform, account state and eligibility can therefore change what you see.

Meta says replies typically arrive in under five seconds. That is a response-time statement, not a resolution-time guarantee. A fast answer may still direct you to identity checks, a waiting period or a recovery form.
If the assistant is missing, the correct response is not to keep searching for an unofficial phone number. Continue with the account-recovery flow and the support choices actually displayed for your account. Official information does not establish a universal Meta phone or carrier-support channel.
Recover a Facebook or Instagram account you cannot access
Use a familiar device and network if possible. Meta says its updated recovery experience can recognize familiar devices and locations, which may reduce friction. The exact prompts are adaptive: two people with the same symptom may receive different verification choices.
- Open the sign-in screen for the affected service. Choose the link for a forgotten password, trouble logging in, a hacked account or another option that matches the message on screen. Start from Facebook for a Facebook account and Instagram for an Instagram account.
- Enter the account identifier requested. This may be an email address, phone number, username or other account detail. Check spelling and country information before submitting.
- Use the verification method offered. Depending on the case, Meta may send a code, ask you to confirm account details, recognize a familiar device or location, or offer an optional selfie-video check. Do not select a method you cannot complete.
- Complete any security review. If Meta asks you to change a password, use a new password that you do not reuse elsewhere. Keep every code private; legitimate support will not need you to publish it.
- Return to the in-product support route. Once signed in, open the Help or support area shown in the app or desktop Help Center. If the AI assistant is exposed for your account, it can help with supported actions; if it is not, follow the alternative form or instructions shown.
Meta has said, “We’ve updated the account recovery experience on Facebook and Instagram using AI so you can get help gaining access to your account.” The statement describes an updated experience, not guaranteed success. A recovery attempt can fail when the submitted details do not match, the account has been compromised, the requested evidence is unavailable or the feature has not reached that account.

If you cannot receive the Facebook or Instagram login code
- Check every email inbox, spam folder and phone number previously associated with the account.
- Try the recovery option that does not depend on the inaccessible destination if one is presented.
- Use a device and location you have used for that account before; Meta says familiarity can be part of its updated checks.
- Complete a selfie-video verification only inside the official recovery flow when it is offered. It is optional in some cases, not a universal requirement.
- Stop submitting random codes or repeated guesses. Repeated failed attempts can add delays and do not prove ownership.
When Meta AI is unavailable even though you can log in
A missing assistant does not necessarily mean the account is broken. Check whether you are using Facebook or Instagram, whether Meta AI is available in your country or territory, and whether the app is current enough to display the feature. The desktop Help Center may expose a different support surface from the mobile apps.
Use the ordinary Help or support path for the product and issue. Describe the concrete failure—such as a disabled login code, hacked profile or rejected identity check—rather than asking generally for “Meta AI access.” Support tools are presented according to the product, region and case, so an account that can use Meta AI for general questions may not be eligible for login assistance.
Do not interpret the assistant’s absence as proof that no recovery exists. Meta’s rollout is selective, and the official recovery flow remains the route to use when the assistant is not visible.

WhatsApp verification is tied to control of the phone number. A Facebook or Instagram recovery flow cannot deliver a WhatsApp code, and Meta AI cannot bypass the requirement that WhatsApp verify the associated number.

- Confirm the number format. Select the correct country code and enter the complete number without an accidental extra digit, missing digit or incorrect local prefix.
- Request the available method in WhatsApp. Use the SMS option first if it is offered. When WhatsApp exposes a phone-call option, use that instead of repeatedly requesting SMS.
- Wait for the displayed timer. WhatsApp advises letting the wait period finish before trying again. Repeated requests can create longer delays.
- Never guess the code. Enter only the code delivered by SMS or the automated call. Do not share it with another person, including someone claiming to be support.
- Check the phone’s ability to receive messages or calls. Confirm that the SIM is inserted, the line is active, the device has signal and call or SMS blocking is not intercepting the delivery.
- Escalate a number-access problem to the carrier. If the SIM was lost, damaged, deactivated or replaced, ask the mobile provider for a replacement SIM carrying the same number. WhatsApp’s guidance directs users to the provider in this situation.
If you cannot recover the old number, WhatsApp’s supported alternative is to change the WhatsApp number when you still have the account access and can complete the required process. Email by itself does not replace access to the associated phone number for verification.
What the carrier can and cannot fix

A replacement SIM is specific to your number and provider. A generic SIM kit, a new phone or a security app does not restore ownership of a lost number by itself.
Understand Meta Account versus WhatsApp
Meta Account is being rolled out gradually across Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, Threads, Meta AI, AI glasses and Meta Quest. WhatsApp can remain separate unless it was previously added to the Meta Account or you choose to add it. That separation matters when diagnosing a login problem: a working Facebook login does not prove that WhatsApp can verify your phone number, and a WhatsApp code failure does not necessarily indicate a Facebook compromise.

For an AI-glasses or Quest sign-in, follow the Meta Account prompts for that product. Record the exact service named on the screen before switching recovery paths. If the prompt asks for a phone-number code and you no longer control that number, resolve the number issue with the carrier first.

Managed accounts for work or school
Organization-managed Meta accounts are different from ordinary consumer accounts. Meta for Work directs people who do not have a managed account to the relevant product Help Center. If you believe your employer or school should have granted access, contact its IT or account administrator. A personal Facebook or Instagram recovery flow cannot create an organization-managed entitlement.
When reporting the problem, include the organization, product, sign-in address and exact error, but do not send a password or verification code. Ask the administrator whether the account is active, assigned to the correct product and subject to an organization policy or suspension.

- Change the password if you entered it on an unfamiliar device, suspect a compromise or reused it elsewhere.
- Review active sessions and remove devices you do not recognize.
- Turn on two-factor authentication using a method you can reliably access.
- Run Meta’s Security Checkup and confirm recovery email addresses and phone numbers.
- Keep login codes private. Anyone asking for a code to “unlock” the account is not helping with legitimate verification.
- Update the recovery contact before changing or cancelling a phone line.
These steps reduce the chance that a future recovery attempt depends on a number or device you no longer control.

The assistant never appears
Check country or territory, app versus desktop, account eligibility and whether the request concerns login help. Continue with the official recovery flow; assistant availability is a rollout condition, not a prerequisite for every recovery method.

The recovery form loops back to the sign-in screen
Recheck the account identifier, use a familiar device and location, and select the option matching the specific error. If a different verification method appears, complete that method rather than restarting repeatedly.
WhatsApp says to wait, but another code was requested
Stop requesting codes and let the timer expire. Then use the SMS or call option shown. If the line itself is inaccessible, contact the carrier instead of trying more guesses.
The carrier restored service but WhatsApp still will not verify
Confirm that the replacement SIM carries the original number, that calls and SMS work on the device, and that the country code and full number are correct. Use WhatsApp’s displayed retry method after the timer completes. A carrier can restore the line, but WhatsApp still controls its verification checks.
Someone offers to recover the account for a fee
Do not provide the person with a password, login link, identity document or code. Use only the official app, Help Center and carrier channels. The reviewed official guidance does not establish a universal paid human-recovery service.
What Meta’s published numbers mean
In a 2025 announcement updated in 2026, Meta reported more than 30% fewer new account hacks globally on Facebook and Instagram over the prior year, plus a relative increase of more than 30% in hacked-account recovery success in the United States and Canada during that year. These are Meta-reported figures, not independently verified measurements, and they do not predict the outcome for an individual account.
Similarly, the under-five-second assistant response figure describes how quickly the system typically responds. It does not mean that identity verification, carrier restoration or account recovery will finish in five seconds.
The practical decision
Use Meta’s recovery and support surfaces for Facebook, Instagram and Meta Account access. Use WhatsApp’s in-app verification route for the code itself. Use your wireless carrier when the number or SIM is unavailable. The dividing question is simple: are you locked out of a Meta service, or are you unable to receive proof of ownership for the phone number? Answering that first prevents the most common dead end—asking Meta AI to solve a carrier-controlled problem.
