Marvel’s Wolverine is a PS5-only, single-player, narrative-driven action-adventure from Insomniac Games and Marvel Games. Sony Interactive Entertainment announced its worldwide release for September 15, 2026. PlayStation’s official FAQ confirms that there is no PS4 version.

When the download will not start
1. Pause and resume the queue
- Open the PS5 Control Center by pressing the PS button.
- Select Downloads/Uploads.
- Highlight Marvel’s Wolverine and choose Pause.
- Wait briefly, then choose Resume.
This refreshes a queue item without deleting it. If the download begins, let it complete before starting other large transfers.

2. Cancel the failed item and retry from Game Library
If pausing and resuming changes nothing, return to Downloads/Uploads, select the game, and choose Cancel and Delete. This removes the queued download entry. Open Game Library, locate the game, and start the download again from its product page.
Do not assume that purchasing the game again is the solution. First verify the original transaction and account, because a second purchase does not correct a queue or license problem.
3. Check PlayStation service status
A service outage can prevent a download from starting even when your home network is working. Check PlayStation’s current service-status page before repeatedly deleting and restarting the download. If services are degraded, wait for them to recover and retry once the status is normal.

Open Settings > System > System Software > System Software Update and Settings and install any available update. Restart the console after the system update, then try the game download again.
5. Verify free storage
Open Settings > Storage to see available space. PlayStation says the game’s product page displays the minimum free space needed. The required amount can change as game updates and selected content change, so use the current PS5 listing rather than an old number copied from another site. If space is low, remove or move an item you no longer need, then retry.
When the download is stuck
Test the connection from the PS5
- Open Settings > Network > Connection Status.
- Select Test Internet Connection.
- Wait for the test to finish and note whether sign-in, internet access, or another network stage fails.
No official source establishes a minimum internet speed for this game, so do not treat an arbitrary speed figure as a requirement. The useful question is whether the PS5 can maintain PlayStation Network access and complete the test.

Retry after the network and service checks
If the test fails, correct the connection shown by the console, then retry the download. If the test succeeds but the queue remains frozen, check PlayStation service status again and proceed to Safe Mode. A successful connection test does not rule out a temporary PlayStation service problem or a damaged local download database.

Clear cache and rebuild the database in Safe Mode
Use this only after the ordinary queue, service, storage and connection checks. Save your work and close games first.
- Turn off the PS5 completely; do not leave it in Rest Mode.
- Press and hold the power button until you hear the second beep.
- Connect the DualSense controller with a USB cable and press the PS button.
- Choose Clear Cache and Rebuild Database, then follow the on-screen instructions.
These are maintenance options supplied by PlayStation for download and transfer problems. They are not a guarantee that every failed download is caused by the database, and they do not replace checking the account, service status, storage and system software.
When an update will not download or install
Check whether the problem is the game update or the base download
Open Downloads/Uploads and read the item name and status. A stalled base game, a patch, and an optional language or content package can appear as separate queue entries. Record the exact entry that fails before deleting anything.
Apply the standard update checks
- Confirm that the PS5 is online through Settings > Network > Connection Status > Test Internet Connection.
- Check PlayStation service status.
- Install current PS5 system software.
- Check free space under Settings > Storage; an update may need additional working space beyond the already installed game.
- Pause and resume the update. If it remains failed, cancel and delete that queue item, then retry from the game’s library or product page.
If the queue is still stuck after those checks, use Safe Mode’s Clear Cache and Rebuild Database option as described above.

Insomniac’s latest official patch note located for this guide is version 1.002.000, dated October 6, 2026. It adds QSSR on PS5 for image detail and image stability, addresses community-reported crashes and bugs, and improves overall stability. The notes also list fixes involving the user interface, Photo Mode, out-of-bounds situations, visual polish, progression, accessibility and localization.

That patch is a game update, not a universal installer repair. Its notes do not claim to fix every download, update or installation failure. If version 1.002.000 installs successfully but your original queue or license problem remains, continue with the account, storage, network and support steps rather than repeatedly reinstalling without diagnosing the symptom.
When the game is locked or a purchase is missing
Sign in to the account that bought the game
A padlock commonly indicates that the currently active user cannot verify a license. Switch to the PlayStation account that made the purchase, then open Game Library and check whether Marvel’s Wolverine appears there.
Check transaction history
Verify the purchase in the buying account’s transaction history. If the transaction is absent, you may be using a different account, a different regional account, or a purchase that has not completed. Do not buy another copy until the original transaction is understood.
Check a PlayStation Plus entitlement
If access came through PlayStation Plus rather than a direct purchase, confirm that the subscription is active and that the game remains available through that benefit. A subscription entitlement is different from owning a permanent purchase.
Check Console Sharing and Offline Play
If another user owns the game, sign in as the owner and open Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Console Sharing and Offline Play. Enable it on the PS5 intended to share the owner’s games. Sony limits this feature to the console designated by the account, so an account can have sharing enabled on only one PS5 at a time.
Restore licenses
From the PS5 home screen, open Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Restore Licenses. Select the relevant option and wait for the process to finish. Then restart the console and check the game again.

If the license is verified but the padlock remains, check service status and system software, confirm Console Sharing and Offline Play, and use Safe Mode cache/database maintenance if necessary. If the title is not visible in Game Library, inspect transaction history and the library’s hidden-items view as well.
When installation completes but the game cannot be accessed
Capture the exact state before changing anything
Write down the full error message, error code, time and date, and whether the queue still contains game data, an update, or an optional language/content package. A screenshot is useful; a short video is even better if the failure is intermittent.
Verify the four prerequisites
- Correct PS5 account: use the account that purchased or legitimately receives the entitlement.
- Valid license: check transaction history, subscription status where relevant, and restore licenses.
- Current system software: install any PS5 system update.
- Current game update: inspect Downloads/Uploads and allow the available game patch to finish.
Do not assume that every player must install every language package. The official guidance does not state that all language or optional-content packages are required for every installation.
When a transfer from another PS5 is stuck
Start with the connection test at Settings > Network > Connection Status > Test Internet Connection, then check PlayStation service status. If the network appears functional but the transfer remains stuck, use Safe Mode’s Clear Cache and Rebuild Database options according to PlayStation’s instructions.
Keep both consoles powered as directed by the transfer process, avoid interrupting them while the progress indicator is active, and record which item is being transferred if you need support. The same steps apply whether the transfer contains the base game, an update, or related data; identify the specific queue entry before troubleshooting further.

- What you attempted, in order, and what happened after each step.
- How to reproduce the failure, including whether it affects a new download, an update, a transfer or launch after installation.
- The date and time of the attempt, including your time zone if requested.
- A screenshot or video when possible.
- The PS5 system-software version and the game version shown on the console.
This information lets Support distinguish a license failure from a service outage, queue corruption, storage problem or game-specific crash. PlayStation does not publish a failure-rate statistic for these Wolverine problems, so an isolated error should not be presented as evidence that a particular percentage of players is affected.
Edition and hardware questions that do not fix installation errors
The official FAQ lists Standard and Digital Deluxe editions. Choose between them based on the extras you want, not as a troubleshooting tactic. A different edition does not change the PS5 platform requirement or repair an account, storage, network or license issue.
PlayStation identifies PS5 and PS5 Pro consoles and DualSense controllers as the supported platform context. Those hardware options can affect how you play, but replacing a controller or console is not a first-line fix for a stalled download or missing entitlement. Diagnose the queue and account before considering hardware service.
