Record the exact message or error code, identify which symptom you have, then work through the matching queue, network, storage, account, license, or Safe Mode check. The official guidance available for this problem is general PS5 support guidance; it does not confirm a Kingdom Hearts-specific defect.
First, identify exactly what is failing
Different symptoms point to different causes. A download that never begins is not diagnosed the same way as a transfer that stops at a percentage, an installation that ends with an error code, or a game that is installed but shows a padlock. Before changing settings, write down the wording on screen and any code beginning with letters such as CE. That record determines which PlayStation instructions apply and gives Support something reproducible to investigate.

Check the account, service and software basics
Before deleting anything, check whether PlayStation Network is experiencing an outage and whether the PS5 is running the latest system software. A service interruption can prevent a purchase from appearing, hold a queue, or stop license confirmation even when your console and internet connection are otherwise working. An outdated system can also make an otherwise valid download or installation fail.

The correct diagnosis may depend on whether you own a digital purchase, a PlayStation Plus entitlement, or a disc-based product, as well as the account that obtained it.

When the download will not start
1. Pause and resume the queue
- Open the PS5 Control Center and select Downloads/Uploads.
- Highlight the Kingdom Hearts download and choose Pause.
- Select it again and choose Resume.
Pausing and resuming refreshes the queue without discarding the partially downloaded content. Give the queue a moment to update. If it begins, allow the transfer to complete before launching the game or starting another large download.
2. Cancel the item and retry from Game Library
If resume does nothing, return to Downloads/Uploads, select the item, and choose Cancel and Delete. This removes the failed queue entry so that you can create a clean attempt; it does not change the ownership of a purchase. Then open Game Library, locate the exact Kingdom Hearts edition you own, and start the download again.
Use the edition shown in your library rather than searching the Store for a similarly named package. A collection title can have several entries, and selecting a product that is not attached to your entitlement can create an apparent access problem.

After restarting the queue, check PlayStation Network status and install any available PS5 system-software update through the console’s official update process. If the service is reporting an incident, repeated cancellations are unlikely to solve it; wait until the service problem is resolved and then retry.
When a download is stuck or the transfer stops
Test the PS5 connection
- Open Settings.
- Choose Network.
- Open Connection Status.
- Select Test Internet Connection.
This test checks whether the console can reach the network and PlayStation services. Also check the service-status page before treating a stalled percentage as a local fault. A failed test or an active service incident points away from the Kingdom Hearts files themselves.

Use Safe Mode maintenance if the basic checks fail
When status and connection checks do not explain the stall, Sony’s download guidance recommends using PS5 Safe Mode and selecting Clear Cache and Rebuild Database. The cache option clears temporary system data; rebuilding the database reorganizes the console’s content index. These are maintenance operations, not a system-software reinstall, but you should still let the process finish and avoid powering off the console while it is working.
After the console returns to normal operation, start the title from Game Library rather than repeatedly tapping a stale queue notification. If the same code returns, stop repeating the procedure and follow the code-specific section below.
When installation fails with an error code
An installation failure is more specific than a download that has not started. Record the complete code and its accompanying text, including punctuation, before deleting the item. PlayStation maintains a searchable PS5 error-code index; codes distinguish problems involving storage, installation, downloading, and license confirmation. The code’s own instructions take priority over a generic retry.
Example: CE-106487-6
PlayStation describes CE-106487-6 as an issue downloading or installing content. The recommended sequence is:
- Check that the PS5 system software is current.
- Restore licenses from Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Restore Licenses.
- Delete the failed download and try it again from Game Library.
- If the failure persists, start Safe Mode and choose Clear Cache and Rebuild Database.
That sequence is an example of how to use a code, not a universal fix for every installation message. A code that identifies insufficient storage requires space management; a license-confirmation code requires account and entitlement checks. Do not substitute the CE-106487-6 procedure for the instructions attached to a different code.

Separate a damaged queue entry from a wider system problem
If deleting the item and retrying produces the same code immediately, note whether other games or applications can download and install. A single title failing while unrelated content works suggests an entitlement, product-listing, or edition issue; several titles failing suggests a broader network, storage, software, or database problem. This observation is useful to Support, but it is not proof of a Kingdom Hearts-specific defect.

When the collection is missing, locked, or asks you to buy it again
Confirm the purchasing account
Sign in to the PS5 account that actually bought the digital collection and open Game Library. Check the account’s transaction history if you are unsure which profile made the purchase. A household member’s account may own the entitlement even when another profile is using the console.
Check a PlayStation Plus entitlement
If access comes from PlayStation Plus rather than a standalone purchase, confirm that the subscription is active and that the title is still available through the subscription catalog. A game can remain installed while becoming unavailable when the entitlement expires or the catalog changes.
Check Console Sharing and Offline Play
When another household account owns the game, verify that Console Sharing and Offline Play is enabled for the owning account on this PS5. Without that sharing setting, a different local profile can see a padlock even though the purchase is valid on the owner’s account.
Restore licenses
- Open Settings.
- Choose Users and Accounts.
- Select Other.
- Choose Restore Licenses and follow the confirmation prompts.
Sony states: ‘Please note, restoring licenses won’t affect your data.’ License restoration refreshes the console’s record of what the account can use; it does not erase saved games or other console data. It also cannot create ownership for an account that never bought the product.

Check storage without guessing the collection size
Open Settings > Storage to see available space. A PS5 may need more free space than the final installed size while it downloads and prepares installation, so rely on the console’s requirement rather than a third-party estimate.
To view the requirement associated with the exact product listing, open it in Game Library, select the … (More) menu, choose View Product, and read the minimum free-space figure shown there. Because the edition and region have not been identified, no single Kingdom Hearts storage number can be stated safely.
If the console explicitly reports insufficient space, remove or move content you no longer need, then retry the download. Storage expansion is an optional capacity decision, not a first-line fix for a queue, license, or network error. Do not buy hardware solely because a download is stuck unless the PS5 has confirmed that space is the limiting condition.
Use Safe Mode carefully
Safe Mode is appropriate after ordinary queue, status, connection, and account checks have failed, or when the error code directs you there. For this problem, the relevant maintenance choice is Clear Cache and Rebuild Database. Read the menu labels carefully: Safe Mode contains more destructive options than the maintenance operation recommended for a stalled download.
Do not confuse clearing cache and rebuilding the database with Reset PS5 or reinstalling system software. Those options have different consequences. If you are uncertain which menu item a code requires, stop and consult the code’s official instructions rather than selecting a reset option as an experiment.
System-software reinstall is a last resort
Updating the PS5 through official system-software sources is different from reinstalling the system software. Sony warns that reinstalling PS5 system software deletes all data on the console. That means a reinstall should not be the next step for an ordinary stuck Kingdom Hearts download; it belongs only in a later recovery process when official guidance specifically directs it.
Before considering a reinstall, make sure you have identified the exact error, tried the non-destructive steps that apply to it, and protected anything you need to keep. Use only Sony’s official update files and instructions. Do not download system software from an unofficial mirror or follow a video that substitutes an unverified file or menu path.
Prepare an effective PlayStation Support request
If the collection still will not download or install after the applicable steps, contact PlayStation Support with a reproducible description. Include:
- The exact Kingdom Hearts collection name and edition shown in Game Library or View Product.
- Whether access is from a digital purchase, a disc, or PlayStation Plus.
- The PSN account context: which account bought the game and whether another household profile is using it.
- The complete error code and message, copied exactly.
- What happened in order: for example, queued, paused, resumed, canceled, retried, then failed during installation.
- The date and time of the failed attempt.
- The PS5 model and current system-software version when relevant.
- Your region if the Store listing or entitlement appears different from expected.
- A screenshot or video showing the message, if possible.
Describe how to reproduce the failure rather than saying only that the game does not work. Support can use the code, timestamp, account context, and sequence to distinguish a service incident from a local queue, entitlement, storage, or installation problem.
Edition and region details can change the diagnosis
The phrase Kingdom Hearts collection does not identify one verified product configuration. The exact edition, purchase format, Store region, account that owns it, PS5 system-software version, and error code may materially change the answer. A title-specific server or patch problem, an edition’s storage requirement, and the availability of a particular Store listing cannot be confirmed without those details.
For that reason, use the product entry attached to your account as the source of truth for the edition and free-space requirement. Avoid applying advice for a different collection simply because its name is similar.
