One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchThe safest fix depends on exactly where setup stops: activation, Quick Start, iCloud restore, a computer-backup restore, a software-version check, or an Apple-logo progress bar. Identify that screen first, then use the matching recovery path. Do not erase the new iPhone until you have verified that the backup or transfer source you need still exists.
Start by identifying the failure stage
Look at the wording and symbols on the iPhone screen. The stage determines which steps are safe and whether an action could erase data.

Activation, SIM or eSIM message
An activation alert, “No SIM,” “Invalid SIM,” or unsupported eSIM message appears before you can finish setup. This is a network, carrier, or Apple activation issue rather than a failed data copy.

Quick Start normally shows a setup prompt on the old iPhone when you place it beside the new one. If the prompt never appears, disappears, or pairing stops, use the Quick Start sequence below.

- 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
- 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
- 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
- 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
- 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)
“Transfer Your Apps & Data” or backup selection
This is the point at which you choose direct transfer, an iCloud backup, a computer backup, or setup as new. A missing backup, repeated password request, or restore error belongs to the corresponding backup section.
Software-version message
A backup made on newer iOS or iPadOS can require an update before it will restore. The update-and-erase sequence is important because restoring to an already configured phone requires erasing that phone.
Apple logo and progress bar
A bar that moves slowly, appears unchanged, or restarts after reaching the end can still represent normal work. If the phone is unresponsive or remains on the Apple logo without a progress bar, use the recovery guidance later in this article.

Computer error or unrecognized iPhone
When Finder, Apple Devices, or iTunes cannot see the phone or reports an error, treat it as a computer-backup restore problem. Keep the phone connected while you work through the computer checks.
Choose the transfer route that fits your situation
| Route | Works best when | Prerequisites and trade-offs |
|---|---|---|
| Quick Start direct transfer | The old compatible iPhone is available and working | Wi-Fi and Bluetooth must be on for the old device; keep both phones nearby and connected to power. Both devices remain occupied until direct migration finishes. |
| Quick Start with iCloud download or iCloud backup restore | A usable iCloud backup exists, or you want to begin using the new phone while content arrives | Requires Wi-Fi and power, Apple Account credentials, and compatible software. Apps, photos, and other content can continue downloading after setup. |
| Finder, Apple Devices, or iTunes backup | A local computer backup exists or a network restore is impractical | Requires a computer and compatible USB cable. An encrypted backup needs its password; an unencrypted backup does not transfer Health and Activity data. |
| Move to iOS | You are moving from Android during first-time iPhone setup | It is a setup-time migration. After setup, you must erase the iPhone to use the setup flow again, or move remaining data manually. |
| Set up as new | No usable backup or transfer source exists | Old-device content is not restored. Creating a new iCloud backup after setup can replace an older saved backup, so decide carefully before choosing this route. |
Compare the options by whether the old phone works, whether a dated backup is available, the reliability of your Wi-Fi, whether the new phone has already been configured, and whether you have a computer and any required backup password. No route has a guaranteed completion time: Apple says transfer duration varies with network conditions and the amount of data.
Fix Quick Start when the prompt is missing or transfer stalls
Prepare both iPhones
- On the old iPhone, connect to Wi-Fi and turn on Bluetooth.
- Turn on the new iPhone and place it close to the old one.
- Follow the animation, passcode, and Apple Account prompts shown on the old device and the new device.
- For a direct migration, keep both phones close together and connected to power until the transfer completes.
Apple’s Quick Start information lists an iOS 11-or-later source device (or iPadOS 13 or later for an iPad). Apple’s iPhone setup guide describes direct wireless data transfer when both devices use iOS 12.4 or later. If the direct-transfer choice is unavailable, update the phones when possible or choose an available backup route.
Restart when the setup prompt disappears
If the old phone showed the prompt and it vanished, restart both devices, then place them together and try again. Apple states: “If the prompt to set up your new device disappears from your current device, restart both devices.” A restart is a low-risk step; it does not erase either phone.

- SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
- HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
- BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
- COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
- INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.
Decide between direct transfer and iCloud download
Direct transfer keeps the old and new phones occupied while the copy runs. If Quick Start offers an iCloud download instead, the new phone can become usable sooner while apps and other content download in the background. The choice changes when you can use the new phone, not the need for a reliable network and sufficient power.
Check for an enrollment limitation
An iPhone enrolled in Apple School Manager or Apple Business cannot use Quick Start to transfer from the current device. Use the organization’s assigned setup process or an approved backup method instead of repeatedly retrying Quick Start.
When a stalled transfer may still be working
Large photo libraries, apps, and other data can make the display appear unchanged. Apple cautions that transfer times vary with network conditions and data volume. Keep both phones powered and nearby while the progress indicator is advancing or the devices are responsive. If the prompt has disappeared, restart both devices; if the phones are unresponsive, move to the force-restart and recovery section.
Restore from iCloud when the backup is missing or errors
Use the required network and power
iCloud restore requires Wi-Fi and power. It cannot use a cellular internet connection for the restore. Connect the iPhone to a reliable Wi-Fi network and leave it plugged in while the initial restore runs.
Confirm the backup before selecting it
- At the backup-selection screen, review the available backup dates and sizes.
- Choose the backup that contains the data you need, rather than automatically selecting the newest entry.
- Make sure you remember the Apple Account credentials associated with the backup and purchased content.
If the expected backup does not appear, verify that it exists, try another Wi-Fi network, and select another available backup if one is suitable. These are Apple’s recommended responses to a missing-backup or restore-error message.
Handle a software-version mismatch
An iCloud backup can require a newer iOS or iPadOS version than the new phone currently has. If setup offers an update, complete it before attempting the restore. If setup cannot continue with the transfer, follow the update-and-erase procedure in the next section.
Expect more than one Apple Account prompt
Repeated password requests can occur when purchases were made with multiple Apple Accounts. Enter the requested account credentials, or use the skip-and-sign-in-later option when it is offered. A skipped purchase-account sign-in affects access to those purchases; it does not mean that the entire device restore failed.

Do not mistake background downloading for a frozen restore
The initial restore can finish while apps, photos, and other content continue arriving afterward. Leave the iPhone on Wi-Fi and power and allow those downloads to continue. A completed setup screen is therefore not proof that every app or photo has already downloaded.
If the new iPhone was already set up
Understand the erase requirement
Apple’s restore workflow says: “If you already set up your device, erase it before you follow these steps.” Restoring an iCloud or computer backup to an already configured iPhone requires erasing the target phone first.
Erasing removes the target iPhone’s current data. Before proceeding, check the backup date and size and confirm that it contains the information you want. Copy or otherwise preserve any new photos, messages, or files that exist only on the target phone.
Use the correct erase path
- Open Settings.
- Tap General.
- Tap Transfer or Reset iPhone.
- Choose Erase All Content and Settings, authenticate when asked, and wait for the erase to finish.
- Run setup again and select Quick Start, an iCloud backup, or a computer backup.
The same erase requirement applies when you must update the phone before restoring a backup. If you set up the iPhone as new and create a new iCloud backup afterward, Apple warns that the new backup can replace the previously saved one. If the older backup is still needed, restore it as soon as possible while it remains available.
Recover from a backup that needs newer iOS or iPadOS
A backup created on newer software may be rejected by an older iPhone. Apple documents a sequence that preserves the ability to use that backup:
- Complete setup without transferring the backup.
- Update the iPhone to the required iOS or iPadOS version and let it restart.
- Open Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone.
- Choose Erase All Content and Settings.
- After the erase, begin setup again and restore the desired backup.
The erase in step four is not optional in this recovery sequence: it removes the content currently on the phone so setup can offer the backup restore again. Verify the backup before starting.
Restore a computer backup with Finder, Apple Devices, or iTunes
Use the appropriate computer app
- On a Mac running macOS Catalina 10.15 or later, use Finder.
- On Windows 10 or later, use Apple Devices.
- iTunes remains relevant for supported older configurations.
You also need a USB cable that fits both the iPhone and the computer. Connector compatibility depends on the specific models; a cable intended for a different pair of devices will not make an otherwise invisible phone appear.

Start the restore
- Connect the iPhone to the computer with the compatible USB cable.
- Open Finder, Apple Devices, or iTunes and select the iPhone.
- Choose Restore Backup.
- Review the available backup dates and sizes and select the intended one.
- Enter the password if the backup is encrypted.
- Keep the iPhone connected while it restarts and syncs.
Know what encryption changes
An encrypted computer backup cannot be restored without its encryption password. An unencrypted computer backup does not transfer Health and Activity data. If those records matter, verify which type of backup you have before erasing the target phone.
When the computer cannot recognize the phone
Update the computer and Apple Devices or iTunes, reconnect the iPhone, and restart both the computer and phone. If the restore still errors, try another computer or another available backup route. Do not disconnect during a restore merely because the phone restarts; keep it connected until the computer reports completion.

Move data from Android with Move to iOS
Move to iOS is used during the new-iPhone setup flow. Select the Android-to-iPhone migration option when the setup assistant presents it and keep both devices available for that process.
If the iPhone has already completed setup, the setup-time migration option is no longer available. To use it, erase the iPhone through Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Erase All Content and Settings, then start setup again. If you do not want to erase the phone, move the remaining data manually using the services or apps that hold it.

Check Apple’s activation status
Look at Apple’s iOS Device Activation system-status indicator. If Apple reports that the activation server is temporarily unavailable, wait a few minutes and retry rather than repeatedly changing transfer methods.
Retry on reliable Wi-Fi
Restart the iPhone and connect it to a reliable Wi-Fi network. Activation needs a network connection even when you plan to restore from a local computer backup.

Send SIM and eSIM errors to the carrier
Invalid or unsupported SIM or eSIM messages require carrier help. Confirm that the line and device are supported instead of treating the message as a failed data transfer.
Recognize Activation Lock
A password request during activation can indicate Activation Lock. Use the Apple Account associated with Find My. A different account or a guessed transfer password will not remove the lock.
When the Apple logo or progress bar appears frozen
Allow normal slow progress
After an update, restore, or erase, the Apple logo bar can move slowly, look static, or restart after reaching the end. Apple says the duration varies with the number of files and the type of operation. Keep the iPhone connected to power, especially during an over-the-air update, and allow the operation to finish while the device remains responsive.
Use force restart only when the phone is unresponsive
If the iPhone never completes or stops responding to taps and buttons, follow Apple’s force-restart instructions for your specific iPhone model. Button combinations differ by model, so use the model-specific procedure rather than guessing.
Enter recovery mode when Apple recommends it
Apple recommends recovery mode when the phone shows a Connect to Computer screen, is not recognized by the computer, or remains on the Apple logo without a progress bar for several minutes.
- Connect the iPhone to a computer with a compatible USB cable.
- Put the iPhone into recovery mode using the procedure for its model.
- When the computer offers Update or Restore, try Update first.
- If Update cannot complete, choose Restore only after accepting that it reinstalls iOS and erases the iPhone.
If recovery mode cannot update or restore the device, or a required button is broken, seek Apple Support or authorized service.
A low-risk retry checklist
- Write down the exact screen message and whether the old phone is still available.
- Confirm whether a backup exists and note its date and size.
- Check that you know the Apple Account password and, for a computer backup, the encryption password.
- Use Wi-Fi and connect the phones or target iPhone to power when the route requires it.
- Restart both phones if the Quick Start prompt disappears.
- Do not erase an already configured iPhone until the desired backup is verified.
- After an erase, do not interrupt setup, update, restore, restart, or sync operations because the screen appears unchanged.
- Use Update before Restore in recovery mode; Restore erases data.
These checks separate a missing source, an incompatible software version, a network or activation failure, and a genuinely unresponsive device. They also keep the destructive steps—Erase All Content and Settings and recovery-mode Restore—behind an explicit warning.
