Switching a Windows PC into your setup does not, by itself, prove that Apple’s Continuity features caused or suffered a failure. The practical fix is to identify the feature that stopped working—Handoff, Continuity Camera, calls, or messages—and then check that feature’s account, wireless, proximity, permission, and compatibility requirements.
Use the feature-specific checks below in order. They apply to an iPhone and Mac that still need to work together, even if Windows is now your main computer.

First, identify what actually stopped working
“iPhone and Mac features” is not one service. Apple Continuity is a family of functions, and each has its own prerequisites. Apple says some Continuity features require Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, while device and operating-system requirements vary by feature. Start with the symptom rather than treating Windows as the diagnosis.

| What you are trying to do | Feature to troubleshoot | Checks that matter most |
|---|---|---|
| Continue a document, web page, email, or other task on another Apple device | Handoff | Same Apple Account, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Handoff enabled on both devices, supported app and hardware, and proximity |
| Use the iPhone as a Mac webcam or microphone | Continuity Camera | Same Apple Account, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth for wireless use, supported devices, proximity, stable positioning, and no conflicting Continuity session |
| Make or receive iPhone calls on the Mac | Calls on other devices | Same Apple Account, Wi-Fi, nearby devices, and the relevant calling settings |
| Read or send iPhone SMS or MMS conversations on the Mac | Text-message forwarding | Same Apple Account, Wi-Fi, nearby devices, and forwarding enabled for the Mac |
| Use several Continuity functions at once | Multiple Continuity services | Each service’s toggle, account, wireless state, compatibility, and whether another feature currently has the connection |
Apple describes Handoff this way: “With Handoff, you can start work on one Apple device, then switch to another nearby device and pick up where you left off.” The statement appears in Apple Support’s Handoff article, published June 10, 2026: Use Handoff to continue tasks on your other Apple devices.

- 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
- 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
- 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
- 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
- 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)
Run this baseline check before changing anything
- Write down the failed action. Note whether an icon is missing, a device is not listed, a call will not appear, or messages are delayed. This prevents you from changing settings unrelated to the symptom.
- Confirm the Apple Account. On both the iPhone and Mac, open the Apple Account section in Settings or System Settings and verify that the signed-in account is the same. A similar email address or a separate family account is not sufficient for features that require one account.
- Turn on required wireless connections. Enable Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on both Apple devices. A Windows computer being connected to the same router does not replace the iPhone-to-Mac requirements.
- Bring the devices close together. Put the iPhone and Mac in the same room while testing. Apple’s instructions specify a maximum distance of 10 metres (30 feet) for Handoff; Apple gives the same 30-foot/10-metre operating guidance for the cited Continuity Camera and calls-and-text features.
- Check the feature’s own switch. Continuity features can be disabled independently. Use the paths in the sections below, allowing for the label differences between operating-system releases.
- Check compatibility. Do not assume that an older iPhone or Mac supports every Continuity feature. The required model and operating-system combination is specific to the function, so consult Apple’s instructions for that exact feature.
- Test again with only the intended feature active. Close the app that was using the iPhone camera or microphone, stop another Continuity session, and retry. Some features cannot share the same hardware connection at the same time.
Apple’s general overview of the feature family is Use Continuity to work across Apple devices.
Fix Handoff when a task will not move between devices
Verify the two Handoff switches
On a current Mac, open System Settings > General > AirDrop & Continuity (some releases show AirDrop & Handoff). Turn on Allow Handoff between this Mac and your iCloud devices.
On the iPhone, open Settings > General > AirPlay & Continuity (or AirPlay & Handoff) and turn on Handoff. Apple changes these labels across versions, so use the Settings search field for “Handoff” if the wording is different.
Check the app and the task
Handoff appears only when the app supports it and the activity is one that can be transferred. Test with a supported Apple app first, then try the third-party app again. A missing Handoff prompt in one app is not evidence that the iPhone–Mac connection is broken.

- SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
- HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
- BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
- COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
- INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.
Check proximity and wireless state
Leave Wi-Fi and Bluetooth enabled on both devices and keep them within Apple’s 10-metre/30-foot limit. Avoid testing through a distant room, a powered-off Bluetooth radio, or a Mac that has just been disconnected from its network.
Confirm account and system support
Sign out of neither device as a first resort. Instead, verify the same Apple Account, install available system updates that are supported by the hardware, and compare the models with Apple’s Handoff requirements. If one device is below the required version, a toggle change cannot make the feature compatible.
Restore Continuity Camera for an iPhone webcam or microphone
Continuity Camera lets a compatible iPhone act as a Mac camera or microphone. It can operate wirelessly or through a USB connection, which makes a cable a useful diagnostic test when wireless discovery fails.

- Place the iPhone stably in landscape orientation, with its rear cameras aimed at you. A stand or mount is optional; stability is the important requirement.
- Lock the iPhone’s position while testing and keep it near the Mac, within the distance Apple specifies for the feature.
- Verify that Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are on, the iPhone and Mac use the same Apple Account, and both devices meet Apple’s Continuity Camera model and operating-system requirements.
Select the iPhone on the Mac
In the video-conferencing or recording app, open its camera and microphone selector and choose the iPhone. If the iPhone does not appear, quit and reopen the app after completing the baseline checks. Also make sure another application is not already holding the camera.

Try a wired connection
Connect the iPhone to the Mac with a cable that matches the ports on both specific devices. If the iPhone asks “Trust This Computer?”, approve it. If the Mac displays “Allow accessory to connect?”, allow the connection. A cable that charges but does not carry a reliable data connection can still fail this test, so use a known-good, port-compatible cable.
Look for Continuity conflicts
Check whether iPhone Mirroring or another Continuity feature is currently using the connection. Stop that session and select the iPhone camera again. Apple also warns that a VPN configuration that prevents local networking can interfere with some Continuity features. Temporarily test without that local-network block, following your organization’s security policy.

Fix calls that no longer appear on the Mac
Calls on the Mac rely on the iPhone and Mac using the same Apple Account and Wi-Fi. Keep the devices within 30 feet (10 metres) while testing. The Mac must be configured to allow calls from the iPhone, and the iPhone must be available to provide the cellular call service.

- Confirm the same Apple Account on both devices.
- Turn on Wi-Fi on both and keep the devices nearby.
- Review the iPhone’s settings for allowing calls on other devices, then ensure the Mac is selected.
- On the Mac, check the calling app’s account and notification settings so an incoming call is not being hidden.
- Place a test call after closing any app that may have taken over audio output or input.
If the Mac still does not ring, use Apple’s device- and version-specific calling instructions rather than changing unrelated Windows network settings.
Fix iPhone texts that are missing from the Mac
iMessage conversations normally follow the Apple Account, but SMS and MMS messages from a carrier line require text-message forwarding. The iPhone and Mac should use the same Apple Account, Wi-Fi should be enabled, and the devices should be within 30 feet (10 metres) during setup and testing.
- On the iPhone, open the Messages-related settings and review Text Message Forwarding.
- Enable forwarding for the Mac in the device list. If a verification code appears on the Mac, enter it on the iPhone.
- Check that the Mac is signed in to the same Apple Account used for Messages on the iPhone.
- Send a new test SMS from a contact whose message is known to be green-bubble SMS/MMS, not only an iMessage.
- If the Mac is absent from the forwarding list, restart both Apple devices, reconnect them to Wi-Fi, and repeat the account check before trying setup again.
Apple’s current instructions are at Use iPhone to allow calls and text messages on your iPad and Mac. Availability and exact labels can vary by country, carrier, device, and operating-system version.
What changing to Windows can and cannot explain
Moving from a Mac-centered workflow to Windows can change which computer is awake, which network it uses, and which app is open when you expect Continuity to work. Those changes can expose a missing toggle, a different Apple Account, a VPN policy, or an unsupported operating-system combination. The cited Apple guidance does not establish that installing or switching to Windows itself disables Handoff, Continuity Camera, calls, or messages.

Treat Windows as a possible change in the surrounding environment, not as the root cause. Check the iPhone–Mac pair directly. If the Mac is no longer your primary computer, verify that it is powered on, signed in, connected to Wi-Fi, and not sleeping when you perform the test. A Windows laptop cannot substitute for the Mac in a feature that specifically targets macOS.
Advanced causes after the basic checks pass
VPN or security software blocks local discovery
Some VPN profiles route or filter local traffic. If Continuity worked before a VPN was installed or its policy changed, test with the VPN disconnected only where permitted, or ask the administrator whether local-network access is blocked. Re-enable the protection immediately after the controlled test.
Another app owns the camera or microphone
Video meeting, recording, browser, and surveillance apps can reserve camera or microphone access. Quit those apps completely, select the iPhone in the Mac app you actually want to use, and test one application at a time.

USB-C, Lightning, and older USB connectors are not interchangeable merely because a plug fits through an adapter. Match the cable to the iPhone and Mac ports, then accept both trust or accessory prompts. If the connection repeatedly drops, test a different known-good cable before changing privacy settings.
The devices are compatible individually but not as a pair
A new iPhone feature may require a newer macOS release, while an older Mac may not support it. Compare both model numbers and operating-system versions with the exact Apple Support article for the feature. “The iPhone is new” or “the Mac runs macOS” is not enough to establish compatibility.
A clean recovery sequence when nothing works
- Capture the exact symptom and the feature name.
- Put the iPhone and Mac within 10 metres, enable Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, and verify the same Apple Account.
- Confirm the feature-specific switch and hardware/software requirements.
- Close competing camera, microphone, mirroring, or Continuity sessions.
- For Continuity Camera, test a port-compatible USB cable and accept the trust or accessory prompts.
- Check for a VPN or managed-network rule that blocks local networking.
- Restart the iPhone and Mac, reconnect them to Wi-Fi, and repeat one controlled test.
- Use Apple’s exact support article for the feature and your device/OS combination. If the article’s requirements are satisfied but the feature still fails, contact Apple Support with the models, OS versions, account arrangement, network type, and the result of the wired or wireless test.
When a cable or stand is worth buying
A stable iPhone stand can help Continuity Camera because Apple instructs users to position the phone securely in landscape orientation, but it will not repair an account, compatibility, or network problem. A cable is worthwhile when it matches both ports and you need a wired camera test or a dependable wired setup. Choose only after identifying the exact iPhone and Mac connectors; do not assume a particular connector or model is universal.
Quick Recap
Quick decision checklist
- Handoff: same Apple Account, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Handoff enabled on both devices, supported app and hardware, and no more than 10 metres between devices.
- Continuity Camera: same account, feature-compatible iPhone and Mac, Wi-Fi/Bluetooth for wireless use, stable landscape placement, no competing Continuity session, and a cable test with trust prompts if needed.
- Calls: same account, Wi-Fi, nearby devices, and calls-on-other-devices settings configured on the iPhone and Mac.
- Texts: same account, Wi-Fi, nearby devices, and Text Message Forwarding enabled for the Mac.
- Any feature after a Windows switch: test the Apple devices directly; do not assume Windows is the cause without a feature-specific failure and a matching requirement that is no longer met.
