The practical fix is to tell the Muse agent to forget the specific detail you do not want it to retain, then verify the change in a later conversation. Meta also says Muse users can inspect, edit and download files in its virtual machine (VM), including files containing Muse’s memory about them. However, Meta’s public documentation does not publish a guaranteed button path, memory-file location, command syntax or instant-propagation promise. Treat “tell Muse to forget” as the documented control, and VM-file editing as an additional advanced option.
First, identify which product you are using
The name “Muse Wonder” can refer to two different layers. Meta announced Muse Wonder and Muse Wonder Full on October 12, 2026 as models available through the Meta Model API and Muse Code. Meta said Muse Wonder would soon power experiences in Muse, with rollout beginning for subscribers. Muse is the personal-agent experience in which Meta describes persistent personal memory controls. A third-party client using a model through an API should not be assumed to have the same memory store or controls.

Meta AI Research calls the agent capability Active Memory: “carrying important context about you across conversations and actively retrieving the details relevant to the task at hand.” That description explains what the feature is intended to do, but it does not publish a universal memory database format or guarantee that every integration stores information in the same way. See Meta’s Muse Wonder announcement (October 12, 2026), the Meta Newsroom model announcement, and the Muse product page for the current product context.
What Meta officially says you can do
Meta’s September 2026 Muse launch announcement says users “can always tell it to ‘forget’ specific things it’s learned.” That is the clearest published remedy for an incorrect or unwanted personal memory. Meta’s safety article separately says: “You can inspect, edit and download these files freely, including Muse’s memory about you.” These statements establish two controls, but not a detailed click-by-click workflow.

| Control | What it is useful for | What Meta has not specified publicly |
|---|---|---|
| Tell Muse to forget | Removing a particular remembered fact through the agent conversation | A required phrase, button label, menu path, response time or guarantee that every copy is removed immediately |
| Inspect or edit VM files | Reviewing and changing files in Muse’s virtual machine, including memory data | The exact file path, schema, editor workflow or whether every memory is represented in one editable file |
| Training opt-out | Preventing your interactions from being used for model training, where the setting is available | Deleting one already-stored personal memory; this is a separate privacy control |
The forget and file-editing controls are described for Muse itself. The sources do not establish that a standalone API integration exposes either control, maintains persistent memory, or synchronizes changes with Muse.
Method 1: ask Muse to forget the wrong detail
Use this method when you are working directly with the Muse agent and want to remove one fact, preference, relationship, location, project detail or other personal item.
- Open the Muse agent experience you normally use. Confirm that you are in Muse, rather than an unrelated application that merely calls a Muse Wonder model through an API.
- State the exact detail. Name the remembered statement itself so there is no ambiguity. For example, identify the incorrect city, old job, outdated dietary preference or unwanted personal fact. Avoid a vague request such as “clear my memory” if you only want one item removed.
- Ask Muse to forget that detail. Meta documents the natural-language control, but it does not publish a mandatory command string. Use ordinary language that clearly identifies the information and asks for it to be forgotten; do not assume a sample sentence is a guaranteed system command.
- Wait for Muse’s response. Read what it says about the request. A conversational acknowledgement is useful evidence that the request was understood, but it is not independent proof that every stored representation has already been deleted.
- Test the relevant context later. Start a subsequent conversation or task in which the old detail would normally influence the answer. Check whether Muse still relies on it. This verification step is practical advice, not a Meta-published guarantee that changes propagate instantly to every session or deployment.
If the detail is wrong and you want a replacement retained, make the two intentions explicit: first identify the old information for forgetting, then provide the correct information as a separate statement. Verify the replacement in a later, relevant task rather than assuming that one conversation permanently updated every context.

How to phrase a precise forget request
Precision reduces the chance that Muse misunderstands what you want removed. Identify the old fact, explain that it is incorrect or unwanted, and ask for that fact—not all personal context—to be forgotten. If several memories are related, list them separately so you can test each one. Avoid repeating sensitive information more widely than necessary, and do not include unrelated personal details just to provide context.
For a correction, separate the actions: identify the outdated statement, request that it be forgotten, and then state the current information. Meta has not published a required sentence, so examples are guidance rather than guaranteed commands. If Muse responds ambiguously, ask it to restate which detail it understood before relying on the result.
Method 2: inspect or edit Muse’s VM files
Meta says Muse runs with a virtual machine and that users can inspect, edit and download files in it, including Muse’s memory about them. This can help when you need to review what is stored or correct a more complex record, but the official material available for this article does not identify a file path, file name, format or exact interface sequence.
- Open the VM file tools in the Muse experience. Look for the file-inspection or file-management interface that Muse provides in your deployment. Labels may change as the product rolls out.
- Locate the memory-related data carefully. Search only within files that Muse identifies as containing its memory or personal context. Do not edit unrelated system, authentication or application files.
- Download a copy before editing. Meta says downloading is supported. Keep an untouched copy so you can restore the original if an edit produces an unexpected result.
- Edit only the incorrect or unwanted entry. Preserve the surrounding structure and formatting. Do not invent a new schema, rename fields or delete broad directories when the goal is one fact.
- Save the change and return to the agent. Use the VM’s normal save mechanism. If Muse provides a reload, restart or session-refresh action, use it rather than assuming an open conversation has re-read the file.
- Verify in a fresh task. Ask a later task that would expose the old detail, and check whether the corrected context is used. Keep the downloaded backup until the result is stable.
Because Meta has not published exact paths or syntax, instructions that claim a universal filename, shell command or menu sequence are not established by the cited sources and may be wrong for your version.

Choosing between the two methods
| Situation | Best first step | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| One clearly identified wrong fact | Ask Muse to forget it | This is the direct control Meta explicitly describes. |
| You need to see what is stored | Inspect the VM files | Meta says the files can be inspected and downloaded. |
| Several related entries or a complex record | Back up and review the relevant VM data | A file review may reveal surrounding context that a single conversational request does not expose. |
| A third-party app shows the old information | Check that app’s own data controls | The app may maintain a separate profile or retrieval store. |
| You want to limit training use | Use the Muse settings opt-out | Training preference and memory deletion are different controls. |
How to verify that a correction actually worked
Verification matters because Active Memory retrieves context when Muse considers it relevant; a change may not be visible in an already-running conversation. Use a controlled check:
- Open a new conversation or otherwise start a fresh task after saving the change.
- Choose a task where the old fact would naturally affect the answer, without unnecessarily repeating the old fact in your prompt.
- Check whether Muse independently uses the old information, the corrected information or neither.
- If the old detail appears again, repeat the forget request with a more precise description and review the available memory files.
- Do not treat silence as proof of deletion. A task may simply not require the memory.
Meta’s public descriptions do not promise a fixed deletion latency, a complete audit report or synchronization across all products. Verification therefore shows behavior in the surface you tested; it does not establish how an unrelated API client or future deployment will behave.
Privacy precautions when using VM files
Downloading memory files creates another copy of personal information. Store a backup securely, do not upload it to an unrelated service, and delete the backup when you no longer need it, consistent with your own retention requirements. Edit only the narrow entry you intend to change, because broad deletion can affect other agent functions.
Meta’s September 8, 2026 safety article says Muse conversations and VM data are not shared with Meta ad systems. It also says inference trajectories may be used to train new model checkpoints after personally identifiable information is sanitized. Those statements describe Meta’s handling of the Muse environment; they do not make a downloaded file safe to share publicly or prove that every integration follows the same policy.
If you are using Muse Wonder through an API or another application
Muse Wonder is a model, while Muse is the agent experience discussed in Meta’s memory-control announcements. A developer can call a model without receiving Muse’s personal-agent memory layer. Before troubleshooting, determine which component owns the context:
| Where you are working | What to check | What the cited Meta material establishes |
|---|---|---|
| Muse personal agent | Use the agent’s forget request and its VM file tools, if exposed in your rollout. | Meta describes both controls for Muse. |
| Meta Model API or Muse Code | Inspect that integration’s own conversation state, prompts, database or memory feature. | Muse Wonder model availability is announced; identical Muse memory controls are not established. |
| Third-party application | Contact the application owner or inspect its documented data controls. | No claim is made that the application inherits Muse’s memory controls. |
If an API application keeps its own profile or retrieval database, asking the underlying model to forget may not remove data held by that application. The application’s documentation and account settings govern that separate store. A developer should also check whether old context is being re-sent in prompts, cached in a session, or loaded from a separate database; a model cannot erase information that the surrounding application continues to supply.
Do not confuse forgetting a memory with opting out of training
Meta’s safety article says users can opt out of having their interactions used for model training by switching a setting in Muse settings. That is a broad data-use preference, not the same operation as deleting one personal memory.

- Forget request: targets a specific detail Muse has learned about you.
- VM editing: changes files in the Muse VM, including memory data, when those tools are available.
- Training opt-out: changes whether interactions may be used to train new model checkpoints.
The same safety article says Muse conversations and VM data are not shared with Meta ad systems. It also says inference trajectories may be used to train new model checkpoints after personally identifiable information is sanitized, and that users who do not want their data used for training can opt out with a switch in Muse settings. Read the current wording in Meta’s “How We Built Safety Into Muse” article (September 8, 2026), because settings and availability can change.
Common failure modes and what to try
Muse acknowledges the request but repeats the fact
Use the precise detail again, start a fresh task and test the same context. If the VM tools are available, inspect the relevant memory data and make a narrow edit with a backup. Do not claim success based only on an acknowledgement.
You cannot find a memory editor
Meta confirms that users can inspect and edit VM files, but does not publish one universal path or label. Your rollout may expose the tools differently, or you may be using a surface that does not include the Muse agent. Confirm the product surface before assuming the feature is missing.
The wrong information returns only in one application
That application may maintain its own profile, prompt history or retrieval store. Check its data controls separately; a model-level request cannot be assumed to erase application-owned data.
A corrected fact is not being used
Tell Muse the old detail to forget, then state the correct detail separately. Verify in a later task that actually needs the information. If the old and new statements conflict, specify which one is current rather than supplying several alternatives.

A request to forget one detail is narrower than an account, conversation or data-deletion request. Use the account and privacy controls provided by the relevant Muse deployment for broader deletion, and review the training opt-out separately.
You edited a file and Muse behaves unexpectedly
Restore the untouched download, if necessary, and confirm that the file retained its original structure. Avoid editing unrelated files while troubleshooting one memory. Then restart or refresh the Muse session if your deployment offers that action and repeat a narrow verification task.

What is not currently documented
As of Meta’s October 12, 2026 Muse Wonder announcement and the September 2026 Muse safety and launch material, the following details are not established in the cited public sources:
- an exact button label or navigation path for deleting one memory;
- a required phrase or command syntax for the forget request;
- a universal memory-file name, path or data schema;
- a guaranteed time for changes to propagate;
- an assurance that every API integration exposes the same persistent memory;
- an independent success rate or error rate for memory correction.
Be wary of tutorials that present any of those items as universal unless they are tied to the exact Muse version and interface you are using.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I delete one incorrect Muse memory without clearing everything?
Yes. Meta says Muse users can tell it to “forget” specific things it has learned. Name the exact detail rather than asking generally to clear all memory, then verify the result in a later task.
Is there a required command or exact sentence?
Meta has not published a mandatory phrase, button label or command syntax. Use clear natural language that identifies the unwanted detail, but treat any example wording as guidance rather than a guaranteed command.
Where is Muse’s memory file located?
Meta says users can inspect, edit and download VM files, including Muse’s memory about them, but it has not published a universal filename, path or schema. Do not rely on a path from another version or deployment.
Recommended Free Tools
Will forgetting a detail update every Muse conversation immediately?
There is no published propagation time or guarantee that every open session updates instantly. Start a fresh conversation or task after the request and test a context in which the old detail would matter.
Best Value
What if the old information appears only in an API app?
The app may maintain its own profile, prompt history, cache or retrieval database. Muse Wonder is a model, while the documented forget control belongs to the Muse agent. Check the application’s own privacy and memory controls.
Should I provide the corrected fact after asking Muse to forget?
If you want a replacement retained, identify the old fact for forgetting and state the correct fact separately. Verify later that Muse uses the replacement; Meta has not published a guaranteed correction sequence.
Does the training opt-out delete my personal memory?
No. The training opt-out controls whether interactions may be used for training new model checkpoints. It is separate from asking Muse to forget a specific detail or editing VM memory files.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Is it safe to download Muse memory files?
Downloading is supported, according to Meta, but the copy may contain sensitive personal information. Keep it secure, do not share it unnecessarily, and remove the backup when it is no longer needed.
What should I do if Muse says it forgot something but still uses it?
Do not rely only on the acknowledgement. Repeat the request with a more precise description, start a fresh task, and inspect the relevant VM data if those tools are available. The public documentation does not provide a deletion audit or success guarantee.
Can a third-party API client use Muse’s memory controls?
That is not established. Meta announced Muse Wonder model availability through the Meta Model API and Muse Code, but describes the forget and VM-file controls for the Muse agent. Check the specific integration’s documentation.
The Bottom Line
In Muse, identify the exact wrong or unwanted detail and ask the agent to forget it. If necessary, back up and narrowly edit the relevant VM memory file, then verify the result in a fresh task. Treat API integrations, third-party data stores and the training opt-out as separate systems and controls.
