If the speaker actually mispronounced a name, changing the caption only corrects the text—not the audio. For repeated transcription errors, a service-specific custom vocabulary may help future transcripts when it supports the term and language.
First, determine whether the name is wrong in the audio or in the caption
Play the relevant section and compare what you hear with the caption. If the speaker said the name correctly but the text is wrong, edit the transcription. If the speaker said it incorrectly, a caption edit changes only the words displayed; it does not alter the recorded speech. Correcting spoken audio requires an audio or video edit, which is separate from the caption workflows described below.

Captions serve accessibility as well as transcription: YouTube defines them as including spoken words and sound cues, and they can identify speakers. Check more than the name itself when correcting a passage so that the surrounding words, timing, and relevant cues still make sense. Fix captions on a video already uploaded to YouTube
- Open YouTube Studio and go to the video’s subtitles.
- Open the automatic caption track and choose the edit workflow. YouTube’s guidance is to duplicate an automatic track and edit the copy.
- Correct the misspelled or mistranscribed name, then review the caption timing and nearby text.
- Publish the revised track, then play the video on YouTube and verify the published captions.
YouTube allows creators to edit caption text and timing in Studio; its help also describes editing timing in the editor or by downloading the caption file. Follow the current instructions for the track and interface you see in your account: YouTube Help: Edit or remove captions.

Correct the transcript or captions in Adobe Premiere
If the video is still being edited in Premiere, fix the transcript or caption text in the project, review timing and styling, then choose the caption form needed for delivery. Adobe documents exporting captions as burned-in subtitles, sidecar files, or embedded captions in supported formats. A sidecar file is separate from the video; burned-in text is part of the image. The right choice depends on how the video will be distributed and whether viewers need selectable captions.
Adobe’s documented workflow covers transcription, creating captions, and editing them. Its transcription preferences include language, speaker labeling, and audio analysis; check the current product documentation for supported languages and options because support is product-specific and may change. Reduce repeated name errors in a new transcription
When a name is repeatedly transcribed incorrectly, a reusable vocabulary can help—but only if the transcription service supports it for the relevant language. Amazon Transcribe custom vocabularies are designed for specific words, including proper nouns and terms that are often rendered incorrectly. They apply to that service’s transcription jobs; they are not a general setting that can be assumed to exist in every video editor.

AWS distinguishes custom vocabularies, which target particular words, from custom language models, which address context across larger amounts of domain-specific speech. Its documentation also notes that vocabulary display effects are not applied when a custom language model is active in the same request. Choose the correction route that fits the job

Choose based on whether the video is already published, whether you need to correct only captions or generate a new transcript, whether the service accepts a reusable vocabulary for the language, and what caption format the audience needs. The documented workflows do not establish that one service is more accurate overall.

After publishing or exporting, inspect the captions in the delivered version. A caption track may be separate, embedded, or burned into the video image; verify the form you selected rather than assuming a project edit carried through. Check the corrected name, its timing, and the surrounding captions in playback.
