The correct fix depends on your exact Anker projector model, its country or region, and whether it runs Google TV or an Android system with Nebula Manager. An app that is missing, a casting session that shows only sound, and an app that opens but will not play are different problems.
Start by identifying the model and operating system. Then try the projector’s own app platform, install the latest available firmware, and use a separate HDMI streaming device only when the service is unavailable or unsupported on the projector. Do not assume that every Anker projector has the same app catalog or casting behavior.

1. Identify the projector model and operating system first
Anker sells projectors with different software platforms. Some use an Android system with Nebula Manager, while the Capsule 3 Laser is identified as a Google TV model. App availability, casting support, and protected-video playback can therefore differ even when two projectors carry the same brand name.
Where to find the model
- Read the model name on the projector’s label, packaging, purchase record, or remote-control documentation.
- Open the projector’s settings and look for an About, Device information, System information, or similar screen. The exact label and location vary by model.
- Record the country or region in which the projector is being used. Streaming catalogs and app availability can be region-specific.
- Note whether the home screen is Google TV or whether it opens an Android interface containing Nebula Manager.
| Platform or model information | What it changes | First troubleshooting route |
|---|---|---|
| Google TV, including the identified Capsule 3 Laser configuration | Use the Google TV app environment and its own sign-in and app-availability screens. | Search the projector’s app area for the service, install it if listed, and open it directly. |
| Android system with Nebula Manager | Nebula Manager is the supported route for apps that Anker makes available on that projector family. | Search Nebula Manager, install or launch the app there, and update projector firmware if casting is failing. |
| Model or platform unknown | You cannot safely infer the app catalog, casting method, or DRM behavior from the Anker name alone. | Identify the model and region before changing settings or buying another device. |
This identification step prevents a common mistake: applying Google TV instructions to an Android-system projector, or assuming that an app available on one Nebula model must be available on another.

2. Install and open the app directly on the projector
Search Nebula Manager on Android-system models
- Connect the projector to the internet using the network method supported by your model.
- Open Nebula Manager from the projector’s home screen or app list.
- Search for the streaming service by its exact name.
- If it appears, choose the install or open option shown by Nebula Manager.
- Launch the app from the projector and sign in with the service account. For Netflix on the relevant Anker/Nebula Android TV device family, the setup instruction is to locate Netflix from the home screen or menu and then sign in.
Direct playback is preferable to phone mirroring because the app runs on the supported projector platform instead of asking the phone to copy a protected video signal.
Use the Google TV app environment on Google TV models
On a Google TV projector, search from the projector’s own app interface rather than starting with a phone cast. If the service is listed for your region, install it, open it, and complete the service’s sign-in process on the projector. If it is absent, treat that as an availability or compatibility issue rather than repeatedly reinstalling the phone app.
What it means when the app is not listed
A missing result can mean that the service is not supported on that model, is unavailable in the selected region, or is not offered through that projector’s software store. Anker does not publish one universal catalog for all Anker projectors, so do not sideload an unverified package or assume that a phone version will work on the projector.
3. Update projector firmware before diagnosing casting
Anker’s support guidance for the described Android-system casting problem recommends installing the latest available projector firmware. Firmware can affect app compatibility and casting behavior, but the exact update menu path is model-specific.

- Compact without compromises: Our sleek design won’t block neighboring HDMI ports, so you can switch from streaming to gaming with ease. Plus, it’s designed to stay hidden behind your TV, keeping wires neatly out of sight
- Open the projector’s system settings.
- Look for a System update, Firmware update, Software update, or similarly named option.
- Check for an available update while the projector is connected to a reliable network and power source.
- Install the update and allow the projector to restart completely.
- Retry the app or casting session after the restart.
Because menu labels differ, use the exact model manual when you cannot find the update control. Do not treat a firmware update as a guarantee that an unsupported app will become available; it is a compatibility and bug-fix step, not a way to change the projector’s certified app catalog.
4. Fix a black screen with sound when casting from a phone
Why this symptom occurs
If the projector plays audio while the video area is black, the connection itself may be working. Protected-content rules can prevent a streaming service from allowing a phone’s screen to be mirrored or screencast to the projector. Anker specifically describes this possibility for copyrighted content from services such as Netflix and Hulu on the listed Android-system Nebula projectors.
This symptom does not by itself prove that the projector lamp, display engine, or HDMI hardware has failed. It can be a content-protection response.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsUse this recovery sequence
- Stop the phone’s mirroring or screencasting session.
- Open the service directly in Nebula Manager or the Google TV app environment, if the app is available on the projector.
- Install the latest available projector firmware and retry direct playback.
- If the app is not available on the projector, move to a separate HDMI streaming device rather than assuming that phone mirroring will bypass the restriction.
For the Android-system context described by Anker, Chromecast is not supported in that casting scenario. A direct app or a separate HDMI source is therefore the practical alternative.

Do not confuse phone HDMI with a separate streaming device
Connecting a phone to the projector through an HDMI adapter is not the same as plugging a dedicated streaming stick or TV box into the projector. Anker warns that Netflix cannot be cast through HDMI in the described phone-to-projector setup. A separate HDMI device has its own operating system, app support, account sign-in, and protected-content handling, so it must be checked independently.
5. Use an external HDMI streamer when the app is missing
Anker names a TV stick or TV box as an option when a desired app is not available in Nebula Manager. This is an optional source device, not a universal fix for every region or service.
| Playback route | Best use | Checks before relying on it |
|---|---|---|
| Projector’s built-in app | The service is listed on the projector’s own platform and should be the simplest setup. | Confirm the exact model, region, sign-in support, and current firmware. |
| Separate HDMI streaming stick or TV box | The service is missing from the projector’s app environment or the built-in app is unsuitable. | Verify the device supports the service in your region, the projector has a compatible HDMI input, and the device has the required power and network access. |
| Computer, tablet, or phone connected by HDMI | You need an external source for an app or file that the projector itself does not provide. | Check the service’s protected-content policy; phone HDMI is not a guaranteed Netflix solution in the scenario Anker describes. |
Compatibility checklist for an HDMI device
- Service support: Confirm that the streaming device lists the exact app you need, not merely a general claim that it supports streaming.
- Region: Check that the app and content catalog are available in the country where the device will be used.
- Projector input: Confirm that the projector has the required HDMI input and that the selected input can display the device’s output.
- Power: A stick may need a separate USB power source or wall adapter; the projector’s USB port may not provide the required power.
- Protected playback: The device must support the service’s DRM and output requirements. An external source cannot be promised to bypass regional or content restrictions.
- Network: The streaming device still needs a suitable internet connection even when the projector itself is not running the app.
Anker’s guidance identifies the product category, not a particular third-party model. Select the device only after checking the exact service, projector input, region, and power arrangement.

6. Netflix-specific checks, including 4K and HDR
Netflix availability
Netflix states that it is available on Nebula or Anker Android TV devices and advises users who are unsure to locate the app during setup. That statement does not make Netflix availability universal across every Anker projector or every region. Search the projector’s own app environment first.

What the 4K Streaming Dongle claim actually covers
Netflix identifies a 4K Streaming Dongle as supporting Netflix Ultra HD and HDR when the stated plan, display, connection, and network requirements are met. Those claims belong to that dongle setup; they should not be transferred to every Anker projector, every built-in app, or every HDMI adapter.
| Question | Evidence-based answer |
|---|---|
| Does an Anker projector automatically provide Netflix Ultra HD? | No. Ultra HD capability must be checked for the exact projector or external device and the complete playback chain. |
| What internet speed does Netflix state for its described Ultra HD setup? | A steady connection of at least 15 megabits per second. |
| Is a qualifying subscription required? | Yes. Netflix’s guidance ties Ultra HD and HDR support to an eligible plan and the other stated device, display, connection, and network requirements. |
| Does the 4K Streaming Dongle statement prove that a projector’s built-in Netflix app supports HDR? | No. It is specific to the named dongle setup and should not be generalized to all projector models. |
If your goal is 4K or HDR, verify the projector’s actual display capability, the source device, the HDMI path, the service plan, and the network together. A single compatible component does not establish the capability of the entire chain.
7. Troubleshoot by the symptom you see
The app is not listed
- Confirm the projector model and region.
- Search the projector’s own app environment, using Nebula Manager on applicable Android-system models.
- Check for projector firmware updates.
- If the app remains absent, use a compatible HDMI streaming stick or TV box after checking service and regional support.
The app is listed but will not open or play
- Confirm that the projector is online and that the app is being launched from the projector’s supported platform.
- Install the latest available projector firmware.
- Sign in again using the service’s own on-screen process.
- If the service still fails, compare the model’s supported app environment with the service’s current device requirements. Do not assume that a phone installation proves projector compatibility.
Phone casting produces a black picture and audio
- Treat protected-content restrictions as a likely cause.
- Try the app directly on the projector.
- Update firmware as recommended for the described Android-system casting issue.
- Use a separate HDMI streaming device if the built-in app is unavailable.
Netflix works but the picture is not 4K or HDR
- Identify whether playback is from the projector’s built-in app or the specifically identified 4K Streaming Dongle.
- Check the subscription plan and the display and connection requirements.
- For the Netflix Ultra HD setup described by Netflix, confirm a steady 15 Mbps or higher connection.
- Do not use the dongle’s feature claim as proof that another Anker projector or adapter supports the same output.
8. Avoid unsupported “universal” fixes
Anker does not provide one cache-clearing, factory-reset, or recovery procedure that applies to every Anker projector. Reset controls and menu names vary by model. A factory reset can also remove account and network settings without solving an app that is simply unavailable in your region or unsupported by the projector.
Recommended Free Tools
Use the exact model manual for reset instructions only after the model-specific app search, firmware update, and playback-route checks above. If a service is missing from the supported app environment, resetting the projector will not create a supported listing.
Quick Recap
9. A short decision path
- Identify: Record the exact model, region, and platform: Google TV or Android with Nebula Manager.
- Search: Look for the service in the projector’s own app environment.
- Install and sign in: If listed, use direct playback on the projector.
- Update: Install the latest available firmware, especially when Android-system casting is failing.
- Diagnose casting: If there is sound but no picture, assume protected-content handling may be blocking mirroring.
- Change source: If the app is missing, use a compatible HDMI stick or TV box and verify region, app, HDMI, power, network, and DRM requirements.
- Check quality claims: For Netflix Ultra HD or HDR, validate the exact device and all stated plan, display, connection, and network requirements rather than generalizing from another model.
