Fix a stuck or failed Google Antigravity task by identifying where it is running first: the IDE, the agy CLI, a permission prompt, the sandbox, or Remote Control. Record the exact error, operating system, project folder, execution mode, and whether the problem is local or remote. Then use the matching check below instead of repeatedly resubmitting the same prompt.
There is no documented single cause for every stalled task. A wrong project association, missing CLI path, blocked keyring, pending approval, sandbox restriction, active loop, and disconnected Remote Control session produce different symptoms and require different remedies.

Start with a five-minute triage
Before changing security settings or retrying, write down the exact error text and these details:
- Operating system and version.
- Whether the task is running in the Antigravity IDE or through the
agycommand-line interface. - The project folder, repository, or worktree associated with the conversation.
- Whether the task is executing locally or being viewed through Remote Control.
- The last visible agent message, command, approval request, or connection status.
Use the symptom to choose a diagnostic branch. This prevents an IDE workspace problem from being treated as a CLI installation problem, or a lost browser view from being mistaken for a stopped host process.

1. Confirm the project and execution context in the IDE
An agent can appear to fail when it is operating correctly in a different folder or worktree. Antigravity’s getting-started flow has you create a project, add local folders or Git repositories, and start an agent in either Local or New worktree mode. Verify those choices before changing permissions.
Check the project association
- Open the conversation that launched the task.
- Verify that the intended local folder or repository is attached to that project.
- Confirm that the agent is in the expected execution mode: Local if it should modify the current checkout, or New worktree if it should work in an isolated worktree.
- Inspect the files and branch the agent is actually using before deciding that no work occurred.
If the task targeted a similarly named folder, a newly created worktree, or an unassociated repository, stop the run and start a new conversation with the correct project context. Keep the original error and last agent message; they help distinguish a context error from a command failure.
Look for a scope mismatch
Requests that name a file outside the associated workspace can trigger a permission or sandbox error rather than a model failure. Rephrase the task with the exact in-project path and state whether the agent may create files, modify existing files, or only inspect them. Do not broaden access until you know that the requested path is supposed to be reachable.

First determine whether the failure occurs before the agent starts or after it has begun executing. In a terminal, launch the documented agy command. A shell message such as agy: command not found indicates that the executable is not available through the current PATH; it is not evidence that a task is looping.
When the command is missing
- Confirm that the Antigravity CLI installation completed and identify the directory containing its executable.
- Add that directory to the shell’s
PATHusing your operating system’s normal environment-variable mechanism. - Open a new terminal session so it reads the updated environment, then launch
agyagain. - If multiple installations exist, check which executable the shell resolves and remove or correct stale entries before retrying.
The official CLI troubleshooting page documents the missing-binary-directory cause. It does not provide one universal path for every operating system, so do not copy a path from another machine.

When launch hangs around credentials or a keyring
A CLI that starts but pauses while retrieving a token can be blocked by operating-system keyring access. Treat a keyring or credential error differently from a missing command: authenticate again using the supported Antigravity flow, approve the operating system’s keyring prompt if it is waiting, and check the CLI troubleshooting guidance for the platform-specific recovery. Avoid repeatedly deleting credentials before reading the error, because that can turn a temporary access prompt into a fresh sign-in problem.
When the CLI starts but the task fails later
Once agy has launched, classify the next message as an approval, filesystem, network, authentication, or command-execution failure. Save the complete text, including the command and path, before stopping the session. An updater or SSH-related message belongs to the CLI’s separate troubleshooting paths; it should not be diagnosed as an agent reasoning loop without evidence.
3. Check approvals and permission presets
A task waiting for approval can look idle. Open Antigravity’s Agent settings and inspect both the general permission preset and any project-level override. Project settings can be more restrictive than the general setting, so check the project that owns the conversation.
macOS and Linux presets
| Preset | Documented behavior | Use it when |
|---|---|---|
| Default | Commands inside the Terminal sandbox can run; commands outside it require approval. | You want routine in-sandbox work with review for broader access. |
| Request Review | Every terminal command requires approval. | You need to inspect each command before execution. |
| Turbo | Isolation and restrictions are removed. | Only when you deliberately accept the security trade-off for a controlled task. |
These behaviors are documented for macOS and Linux in the Agent settings documentation. If a command is paused, look for its approval request in the IDE or terminal and approve or reject it explicitly. Resubmitting the prompt does not satisfy a pending approval.
Windows policy is different
Windows uses separate terminal command auto-execution and sandbox settings rather than the newer macOS/Linux preset model described above. Inspect the Windows-specific terminal auto-execution policy in Settings and determine whether the command is waiting for confirmation. Do not assume that changing a macOS/Linux preset will affect a Windows installation.

Use the least access needed
Relaxing a permission policy may make a blocked command run, but it also expands what an agent can execute or modify. Prefer approving the single required command or adjusting only the project setting that is blocking legitimate work. Return to the previous restriction after the task completes. If you cannot explain why a broader setting is necessary, leave the restriction in place and revise the task or workspace path instead.

4. Inspect sandbox filesystem and network limits
Permissions and sandboxing are separate checks. An approved command can still fail if the sandbox cannot reach the requested path or network service. Antigravity’s Settings documentation describes controls for filesystem access and network access.
Filesystem failures
Read the denied path in the error. If it is outside the designated workspace, either move or copy the needed input into the project, attach the correct folder, or grant the narrow access required by your policy. A request to edit a system directory, another repository, or a parent folder should be treated as an intentional scope change, not silently bypassed.
Network failures
A package download, API call, Git operation, or other remote request can be denied even while local file commands work. Check the network-access setting and the exact host or operation reported in the error. If network access is intentionally disabled, provide local dependencies or rewrite the task so it does not require a remote call. If it is enabled but the request still fails, preserve the destination, protocol, and error text for further diagnosis rather than switching to a less restrictive policy immediately.
Interpret the order of failures
If the agent never reaches a command because approval is pending, fix approval first. If approval succeeds and the command reports a path denial, investigate the filesystem sandbox. If local commands work but a download fails, investigate network access. This order avoids attributing every failure to the model or changing multiple controls at once.

5. Stop an active loop safely
When the agent repeatedly issues commands or starts an undesired task, stop the active turn before it consumes more time or changes more files. Google Antigravity’s CLI Prompting & Interaction documentation states: “If the agent initiates an undesired task or loops during command execution, press Esc to immediately halt the session.”
- Press
Esconce to halt the active CLI turn. - Wait for the session to show that execution stopped.
- Read the last agent message and the last command result.
- Check whether an approval prompt, path denial, or network error explains the repetition.
- Inspect files, processes, or generated output before starting another turn.
- Retry only with a narrower instruction that states the exact file, command, stopping condition, and expected result.
Esc is an interruption mechanism, not a diagnosis. If the same loop returns, preserve the repeated command sequence and the prompt that triggered it. A smaller task can isolate whether the problem is the command itself, the workspace, or the agent’s interpretation of the request.
6. Distinguish a Remote Control display problem from host execution
A disconnected browser view does not by itself prove that the host-side task stopped. The Remote Control documentation says that background tasks and shell commands continue on the host when the web interface disconnects, provided the host retains internet connectivity.
Run the Remote Control checks
- Confirm that Remote Control is enabled on the desktop host.
- Verify that the host has a working internet connection.
- Make sure the host is awake and not suspended or asleep.
- Sign in to the desktop and browser with the same Google Account.
- Reconnect the browser view and inspect the host session’s current output before launching a duplicate task.
If the host is online and awake, allow the original command time to finish rather than submitting a second copy. If the host lost power, entered sleep, or lost internet connectivity, treat the interruption as a host availability problem and restart from the last confirmed output.
7. Verify that the installation meets the documented platform requirements
Compatibility information can change between releases. The current Antigravity getting-started page should be checked at publication and again when troubleshooting an upgrade. The retrieved requirements list these minimums:
Best Value
| Platform | Documented minimum or examples |
|---|---|
| macOS | macOS 12 (Monterey) or later; x86 is not supported. |
| Windows | Windows 10, 64-bit. |
| Linux | glibc at least 2.28 and glibcxx at least 3.4.25; Ubuntu 20, Debian 10, Fedora 36, and RHEL 8 are listed examples. |
These are platform requirements listed by the getting-started documentation, not a guarantee that every project dependency or shell environment will work unchanged. If your operating system is older, uses an unsupported architecture, or falls below the listed library versions, resolve that compatibility issue before interpreting task behavior as an agent failure.
8. A recovery sequence for common failure patterns
No visible launch
- In the IDE, confirm the project and attached folder.
- In the CLI, determine whether
agyis missing fromPATHor blocked during credential retrieval. - Record the exact startup message and resolve that layer before changing agent instructions.
Idle after a command request
- Look for a pending approval prompt.
- Check the project-level permission override.
- On Windows, inspect terminal auto-execution; on macOS or Linux, inspect the selected preset.
File or command access denied
- Compare the denied path with the associated workspace.
- Inspect filesystem sandbox controls.
- Approve or expand access only for the required scope.
Network operation fails while local work succeeds
- Read whether the error names network access, authentication, or the remote service.
- Inspect the network sandbox setting.
- Retry only after confirming that the task is permitted to make that request.
Commands repeat indefinitely
- Press
Escin the CLI. - Inspect the final command result and any approval state.
- Retry with a bounded instruction and an explicit stop condition.
Remote browser is blank or reconnecting
- Check Remote Control enablement, host internet, host power state, and account matching.
- Do not start a duplicate task until you have checked whether the host process is still running.
9. What to include when seeking further help
Escalation is much faster when the report identifies the failing layer. Include:
- The Antigravity version and installation method, if shown by the application.
- Operating system, architecture, and whether the issue is in the IDE, CLI, or Remote Control.
- The exact project folder or worktree mode, without exposing secrets.
- The full error text, the command involved, and the path or network destination involved.
- Whether the task was waiting for approval, denied by the sandbox, looping, or disconnected remotely.
- What changed immediately before the failure, such as moving the project, changing a permission preset, updating the CLI, or putting the host to sleep.
Remove access tokens, private keys, API keys, and confidential source code from any report. If the issue is version-sensitive, compare your installation with the latest official setup and settings pages rather than relying on an older screenshot or copied command.
Bottom line
The reliable fix is to identify the execution surface and failure layer before changing settings: verify the project context, separate IDE from CLI startup, resolve approvals and sandbox boundaries, stop loops with Esc, and treat Remote Control connectivity separately from host execution. Keep permissions as narrow as the task allows, and use the exact error text to choose the next check.
