For Ghost of Yōtei problems, start by updating the game and PS5, then use the least disruptive fix that matches the symptom. For a stuck mission, try the checkpoint or a recent save before changing console settings. Avoid deleting saved data or resetting the PS5 as an early step: those actions can erase data.

Update Ghost of Yōtei and PS5 first

Install available updates for both the game and PS5 system software before troubleshooting further. Sucker Punch’s latest patch listed at the time of its April 24, 2026 note is version 1.602, whose “Performance and Stability” section reports “Various rare crash fixes.” That confirms the game has received crash fixes, but it does not establish that a particular crash or slowdown is resolved for every player. Work out what kind of performance problem you have

Notice whether only the game closes, the whole console restarts, the image hitches, or a failure happens at the same mission or after the same action. A repeatable trigger can help you check whether a past patch addressed a similar issue; it does not prove that your problem has the same cause.

Game crashes or instability

Sucker Punch’s earlier patch notes describe several specific rare crash fixes. Patch 1.008 addressed crashes during a Wolf Den mission, while moving the camera with lock-on during combat, and after the game had been idle for more than an hour. Patch 1.010 addressed a rare crash with ray tracing enabled and another in a particular Poison and Lies sequence. Patch 1.100 also listed rare crash fixes and adjustments to autosave. These are historical fixes, not evidence that the same issue is currently widespread or that a remaining crash has a known cause. Patch 1.008, Patch 1.010, and Patch 1.100.

Game will not start or appears to have an install problem

If the issue is launching the game rather than a repeatable in-game hitch, Sony’s general PS5 guidance is to restart the console, check for updates, and reinstall the game if needed. If it is installed on USB extended storage, move it to PS5 console storage. These are general platform troubleshooting steps, not confirmed fixes for every Ghost of Yōtei performance issue. Recover a mission that will not progress

Try game-level recovery before system-level troubleshooting. Santa Monica Studio’s PlayStation support guidance recommends restarting the checkpoint, loading the closest manual or autosave, quitting and reloading that save, or closing and reopening the application. This is general PlayStation game advice, not a Yōtei-specific guarantee. Santa Monica Studio’s progression troubleshooting steps.

  1. Restart the current checkpoint.
  2. If the objective remains blocked, load the closest manual save or autosave.
  3. Quit the game and reload the save.
  4. If needed, close and reopen the application, then try again.

Protect saves if progress appears missing or out of date

Ghost of Yōtei supports manual save points, so use one when available to preserve current progress before attempting broader troubleshooting. The official sources cited here do not provide a Yōtei-specific procedure for restoring a damaged save or resolving every cloud-versus-console save mismatch. Do not delete saved data as a routine fix; if a save remains missing or stale, contact PlayStation or Sucker Punch support rather than experimenting with deletion. PlayStation’s Ghost of Yōtei listing identifies manual save points as a game feature.

Use PS5 Safe Mode cautiously

If the problem appears to involve launching or system behavior, PlayStation also recommends Safe Mode troubleshooting, including clearing the system software cache or rebuilding the database. Cache clearing may help with system feature issues or performance drops; rebuilding scans the drive and creates a new content database. Neither is established as a universal fix for in-game stuttering. Follow Sony’s current Safe Mode instructions and read each option’s warning before selecting it. PlayStation Safe Mode options.

  • Back up important data before making system-level changes.
  • Do not select Reset PS5 or Reset PS5 (Reinstall System Software) as routine troubleshooting: Sony warns these options delete user data.
  • If Safe Mode steps do not resolve an ongoing console-level failure, contact PlayStation support about repair rather than repeatedly resetting the system.
