If your Galaxy A57 5G started losing charge quickly after installing One UI 9.0, begin by checking what is actually consuming power rather than assuming the update is defective. Confirm the phone’s software and model, install every available system and app update, inspect Settings > Battery, apply reversible Device care limits, and use Safe mode to separate downloaded-app activity from a system-wide problem. Samsung’s release notice confirms One UI 9 for model SM-A576B on October 12, 2026, but it does not establish that One UI 9 causes battery drain. Availability and settings can differ by country, carrier and model.
What the evidence says about One UI 9.0 and A57 battery drain
The timing may be real without proving causation. Samsung’s model-specific notice records the One UI 9 release for the Galaxy A57 5G SM-A576B on October 12, 2026. The notice does not report a confirmed battery-drain defect, an affected-device rate or a guaranteed recovery time. Samsung’s battery-drain guidance is general Galaxy troubleshooting, not an admission of an A57-specific One UI 9 problem.

Rollout dates, firmware builds, carrier services and enabled features vary by region. A phone that received a different build can behave differently from another A57. Treat the update as a possible change in circumstances, then use the phone’s own battery data to narrow the cause.
There is also no published statistic establishing how many A57 owners experience excessive drain after One UI 9, how much battery life is lost, or how quickly it should recover. Older Samsung guidance about Android 11 described usage-pattern learning after an operating-system upgrade, but that material concerns another model and an older Android release. It is not evidence of a guaranteed “settling period” for One UI 9 on the A57, so do not wait a fixed number of days while ignoring a clear battery abnormality.

1. Confirm the exact phone, build and available fixes
Check the model and software version
- Open Settings > About phone and note the model name and model number.
- Open Settings > About phone > Software information. Record the One UI version, Android version and build number.
- Compare the result with the SM-A576B model covered by Samsung’s October 12 release notice. Other regional A57 variants can have different schedules, menus or firmware.
Keeping the build number makes later support conversations more useful. If the phone is not SM-A576B, do not assume that the release date or exact changes in that notice apply to it.
Check for a later system patch
- Go to Settings > Software update.
- Tap Download and install.
- Install a newer corrective release if one is offered, then restart when prompted.
A later patch may address a newly discovered issue, but the absence of an update does not prove that One UI 9 is responsible for your drain. Keep the phone on reliable power and Wi-Fi while updating.
Update every app
Open the app store used on the phone, review pending updates and install them all. An app compiled for an earlier system version can consume more power after a major platform change; updating it is a reversible first step. Recheck the battery graph after normal use rather than judging the result immediately after a restart.
2. Identify the battery consumer in Settings
Start with evidence from the A57 itself. Open Settings > Battery and inspect the graph and usage details. Samsung’s support guidance describes using the battery graph to review app activity. Look for an app or activity whose percentage is unexpectedly high compared with what you actually did.

Read the graph in context
- Screen-on use: A bright display, long video session, camera use or gaming can legitimately dominate the list.
- Background use: A messaging, social, media or utility app that remains active when you did little on the phone deserves investigation.
- Weak-signal periods: Cellular radios can work harder where coverage is poor. Note whether the largest loss occurred during travel, inside a building or in another low-signal location.
- Recent activity: A one-time installation, backup, media scan or large download can create a temporary spike that does not repeat.
Compare ordinary periods: for example, a normal workday before the update with a similar workday afterward. Keep the comparison simple by noting screen-on time, network conditions and the apps used. This is a practical way to narrow causes, not a controlled laboratory test of One UI 9.

3. Apply reversible settings changes
Run Device care optimization
- Open Settings > Device care.
- Tap Optimize now (Samsung’s A57 guide also calls this Quick optimization).
- Let the scan finish, then review the battery screen again after normal use.
Optimization can close unnecessary background activity and flag settings that need attention. It does not identify every faulty app and is not a guarantee that post-update drain will disappear.
Limit background activity for infrequently used apps
From Settings > Device care > Battery, open Background usage limits. Add apps that you rarely open to sleeping or deep-sleeping categories as appropriate. Samsung’s A57 guide places battery controls, Power saving, battery information and related charging settings in Device care > Battery.

Apply restrictions selectively. If you put a work, security or messaging app into deep sleep, you may miss an alert or delay synchronization. After changing one group of apps, observe the phone before making more changes so you know which setting mattered.

Use Power saving when you need a temporary reduction
In Settings > Device care > Battery, open Power saving and review the options shown on your build. Samsung describes this mode as reducing background network activity, synchronization and location checking. That can extend runtime during travel or while you investigate, but it can also delay notifications, reduce convenience and change how some apps behave.
Some supported devices also show a Light performance profile. If the option appears on your A57, read its on-screen description and enable it only if its performance trade-off suits you. Do not follow instructions for a menu that your software does not display; Samsung notes that settings vary by device and region.
Review battery information and charging settings
The Device care battery page includes battery information, battery protection and charging controls on supported A57 software. These settings govern charging behavior and battery care; they do not repair an app that is continuously consuming power. Use them to confirm that the phone is charging as expected and that a protection limit has not been mistaken for rapid discharge.

Safe mode disables downloaded apps while leaving the core phone software available. It is a diagnostic comparison, not proof of a hardware failure or proof that One UI 9 is at fault.

Enter Safe mode from the Power menu
- Open the phone’s on-device Power menu.
- Touch and hold Power off until the Safe mode option appears.
- Tap Safe mode and confirm. The phone restarts with downloaded apps disabled.
- Use the phone normally for a meaningful comparison: make similar calls, use the same network locations and check the battery graph. A few minutes is not enough to establish a trend.
Samsung’s exact labels can vary by software version. If the Power menu does not present Safe mode, use the support instructions shown for your build rather than forcing an unfamiliar button combination.
Interpret the result

Removing several apps at once hides the cause. Work through likely recent changes individually, especially apps that appeared near the top of the Battery usage list.

Run Samsung’s battery checks
Use the Samsung Members battery diagnostics available on the phone. Depending on region and software, related checks may also appear under Warranty and care or the device-diagnostics area. Menu access is not identical on every A57, so follow the labels shown on your device.

Contact Samsung support when the pattern persists
Escalate if the phone continues to lose charge unusually quickly after system and app updates, selective background limits and a Safe-mode comparison. Samsung’s A57 support resources include battery-drain, battery-status, Members diagnostics and post-update support topics. Describe the test results rather than simply reporting that the update “caused” the problem; the timing is an observation, not an established cause.
Treat factory reset as a last resort
A factory reset erases personal data and settings. Back up photos, messages, authenticator data and other important content first, and make sure you know the Samsung or Google credentials the setup process may request afterward. A reset can remove corrupted settings or an app-related configuration, but Samsung cautions that it may not permanently solve a problem caused by an app that is still awaiting a fix.
Do not reset solely because the drain began after an update. First preserve the battery evidence, run diagnostics and ask support whether a newer build or known service issue applies to your model and region.

Common mistakes to avoid
- Assuming correlation proves a defect: The October 12 release notice confirms availability for SM-A576B, not a One UI 9 battery failure.
- Waiting for a promised number of days: Older Android 11 guidance about learning usage patterns is not a One UI 9 guarantee.
- Restricting every app: Broad deep-sleep rules can break timely notifications and background work, making the phone appear fixed only because it stopped doing useful tasks.
- Judging from one graph: Compare similar usage, screen time and signal conditions.
- Buying extra capacity as a cure: A charger or power bank supplies energy but does not remove excessive consumption. A replacement battery requires evidence of battery degradation or hardware failure, which post-update timing alone does not provide.
- Resetting without a backup: A factory reset is destructive and is not a guaranteed cure.
What a successful diagnosis looks like
You should be able to answer four questions before deciding that the phone needs repair: which model and build you have, which app or activity appears in Battery usage, whether Safe mode changes the drain, and whether Samsung diagnostics flags a battery or charging issue. Those checks narrow the cause without pretending to be a controlled test of One UI 9 itself.
If a later Samsung release addresses the behavior, install it and repeat the same comparison. Because regional rollout and settings change, keep the model number and build attached to any future support report.
