Apple’s documented full-page workflow is reached from that editing view—not from the initial button press. If the option still does not appear, use Safari’s PDF export or an automated screenshot service for webpages.
What Full Page does—and where it appears
A standard screenshot records only the pixels currently visible. Full Page creates a longer capture of content extending below the iPad screen. Apple specifically documents the feature for an entire webpage in Safari. The control appears only after the screenshot has been taken and its temporary thumbnail has been opened.
Because Apple does not publish a universal list of supported apps, a missing control should first be treated as a test failure: retry on an ordinary, vertically scrollable Safari webpage. If Full Page appears there, the original app or content type may not expose the feature. That is a practical diagnosis, not proof that every other app is unsupported.
Take a full-page screenshot in Safari
- Open a long webpage. In Safari, load a page that clearly continues below the visible screen. Wait for the page to finish loading, including images you need in the capture.
- Use the correct button combination. On an iPad without a Home button, press and quickly release the top button and either volume button together. On an iPad with a Home button, press and quickly release the top button and Home button together.
- Open the thumbnail immediately. A screenshot thumbnail appears in the lower-left corner. Tap it before it disappears or is swiped away. Full Page is available in this screenshot-editing view.
- Select Full Page. At the top of the editor, tap Full Page. A long preview replaces the visible-screen preview.
- Review and crop. Scroll through the preview, check that the page ends where expected, and use the crop controls if browser chrome or unwanted content is included.
- Save in the format you need. Tap Done. Choose Save to Photos for an image, or Save PDF to Files for a document.
If you dismissed the thumbnail, simply repeat the capture and tap the new thumbnail as soon as it appears. Full Page is not selected from the hardware-button gesture itself.

Fixes to try when Full Page is missing
1. Confirm the button layout and timing
Using the wrong pair, holding the buttons instead of releasing quickly, or pressing them sequentially can produce no screenshot or a different system action. Match the pair to your iPad’s hardware and press both buttons at the same time. If the buttons are hard to reach, use one of Apple’s alternate capture methods instead.
2. Use an alternate way to start the screenshot
Apple also lists Apple Pencil, AssistiveTouch, and Siri as ways to initiate a screenshot. These alternatives change how the screenshot starts; you still need to tap its thumbnail and then choose Full Page when the content supports it.
3. Test a normal, scrollable Safari page
Open a conventional article or documentation page with content below the fold. Take the screenshot, open the thumbnail, and look for Full Page. This isolates the iPad workflow from app-specific behavior. A page that fits entirely on one screen does not provide anything extra to capture, so use a genuinely long page for the test.

4. Keep the thumbnail from being lost
The thumbnail is temporary. If you swipe it away, wait too long, or tap elsewhere, the editor closes and the Full Page control is no longer available for that capture. Retake the screenshot and open the thumbnail immediately.

5. Check the preview setting
If screenshots open directly in a full-screen editor rather than showing a temporary thumbnail, go to Settings > General > Screen Capture and turn off Full-Screen Previews. This restores the thumbnail-style preview. It changes how the preview opens; it does not add Full Page support to an app that does not expose it.
Save the result as an image or PDF
Image in Photos
Choose Done > Save to Photos after reviewing the long preview. Screenshots saved this way are in Photos under Collections > Media Types > Screenshots. A full-page image can be much taller than a normal screenshot, so check the file before sharing it to an app that imposes image-dimension limits.

PDF in Files
Choose Done > Save PDF to Files when the result is intended for printing, annotation, search, or document sharing. Select a folder and filename in Files. A PDF is generally the more practical choice for a long article because it preserves a document-oriented format instead of one extremely tall bitmap.
Safari’s PDF fallback
If a webpage does not offer Full Page even after a successful screenshot, use Safari’s built-in export path: tap the Share button, choose Markup, tap Done, then choose Save File To. This saves the webpage as a PDF and is separate from the screenshot editor.
Why some pages or apps still will not capture full length
- The content is not a document-length webpage. Full Page is designed for content longer than the visible screen; a short view has no additional area to append.
- The app does not expose the control. Apple’s explicit example is Safari webpages, and Apple does not document support for every app. A missing option inside a particular app is therefore not necessarily an iPad fault.
- The page uses an internal scroll region. Some apps place a scrollable panel inside a fixed screen. The system screenshot may see the outer screen rather than the panel’s entire contents.
- Content loads as you scroll. Lazy images, infinite feeds, login gates, and changing advertisements can prevent a stable, complete result. Let the page load and prefer a finite article when testing.
- The capture was taken in the wrong context. A screenshot of the Home Screen, a video frame, or a page that does not extend vertically will not produce a useful Full Page preview.
Troubleshooting by symptom

Reliability and privacy checks
- For a one-off personal webpage, the built-in Safari workflow is simplest and keeps the capture on your iPad.
- For automated jobs, record the HTTP status and the
X-Page-Verdict/X-Billedheaders so a failed or blocked page is distinguishable from a valid image. - Review pages containing private account data before sending them to any remote capture service. Use custom headers, cookies, or Authorization only when your security policy permits it.
- Dynamic pages can change between captures. Use a wait condition, a fixed delay, or a cache TTL when repeatability matters.
FAQ
Can I make Full Page appear in every iPad app?
No universal app-support list is published. Verify the feature with a long Safari webpage first; if it works there, the limitation is specific to the other context.
Does Full Page always save as one tall image?
No. The editor lets you save the result to Photos as an image or to Files as a PDF.
What if I need only one element on a webpage?
