Start by checking two things before resetting Windows or reinstalling Forza Horizon 6: has the expansion actually been released, and is the Microsoft account you are using entitled to it? The current Xbox listing describes the two expansions as upcoming, while the launch announcement says they are included with Premium Edition and Premium Upgrade but will arrive later. No release date is stated on those pages, so check the live listing and current Forza announcements before treating an unavailable expansion as an installation failure.
If the add-on is released and owned, match your fix to the platform, storefront and symptom. Confirm the account and entitlement, install the base game first, retry from Microsoft Store or the Xbox app on Windows, then update Gaming Services. Only after those checks should you reset Store components or escalate an account-entitlement problem.

First determine whether there is anything to install
An expansion that has not launched cannot be made installable by clearing the Microsoft Store cache, reinstalling the game or changing a Windows setting. The Xbox Expansion Bundle listing says both expansions will be available separately and are included with Forza Horizon 6 Premium Edition and Premium Upgrade, but currently describes them as upcoming. The Forza Horizon 6 launch announcement also says the expansions are available at a later date.
Because storefront text and launch timing can change, open those official pages immediately before troubleshooting. If the product page still says “upcoming,” wait for the release rather than attempting repair steps. If it shows a released product and your account owns it, continue below.

What the expansion bundle includes
The bundle is digital content. Buying Premium Edition or Premium Upgrade may establish entitlement, but purchasing another edition is not a remedy for a failed download. Verify what your account already owns before paying again. The bundle and the individual expansions should be treated as separate catalog items when checking a library or order history, even if your purchase was made as part of an edition upgrade.
Identify your platform, storefront and exact symptom
Forza Horizon 6 is available on Xbox Series X|S and PC. On PC, the official storefronts are the Xbox app/Microsoft Store and Steam. Record these details before changing anything:
- Platform: Xbox Series X|S or PC.
- PC storefront: Xbox app/Microsoft Store or Steam.
- Account: the Microsoft account that purchased the game, Premium Edition, Premium Upgrade or add-on.
- Symptom: the expansion is absent from the library, the Install button does nothing, the download fails with an error code, or the add-on downloads but is not recognized in-game.
- Exact wording or code, such as 0x80070490 or “Invalid Gaming Services Detected.”
These distinctions matter. A missing entitlement is an account or release-status issue; a download that starts and stops is usually a Store, Windows or Gaming Services issue; content that installs but is not recognized may require game-specific support. Also note whether the base game itself can be downloaded. If the base game fails too, troubleshoot the Store or account before focusing on the expansion.

Check the live product page
- Open the official Expansion Bundle listing.
- Read whether each expansion is released, upcoming or unavailable in your region.
- Compare the edition or add-on name with the item you purchased.
The listing’s wording is: “Both Expansions will be available to purchase separately and are included in the Forza Horizon 6 Premium Edition and Premium Upgrade.” That describes entitlement, not an immediate download date. A Premium owner therefore should not assume that every included item is downloadable on the day the base game appears in the library.
Use the purchasing account everywhere
On Windows, sign in to Microsoft Store and the Xbox app with the same Microsoft account that owns the content. A common failure pattern is playing through one account while the Store is signed into another. The product page should show Owned or Install, not Buy.
Microsoft’s Store installation guidance notes that region, family settings, device compatibility, account authorization and a pending restart after Windows updates can prevent an item from appearing or installing. Check each condition before attempting a reset:
- Confirm the Store region matches the purchase region.
- Check that family or parental controls are not blocking the content.
- Install pending Windows updates and restart when prompted.
- Make sure the PC meets the product’s device requirements and has enough storage.
- Verify that the purchase appears in the account’s library or order history.
Do not use a second Microsoft account merely because it is the account used to launch another game. Entitlements attach to the purchasing account. If a family member bought the Premium upgrade, that account must be the one used for the Store transaction and entitlement check.
Find the purchase in Microsoft Store
Open Microsoft Store > Library and search for Forza Horizon 6 and the expansion. Microsoft identifies the download icon as the way to install an owned item that is not currently downloaded. If it is not listed there, open your Microsoft account order history and locate the transaction. An item that is missing from both places is not a normal local download problem; it points to the wrong account, a delayed transaction, a regional restriction or an entitlement that needs support.

Check the transaction status as well as the title. A pending, canceled or refunded order will not produce a usable add-on license. Keep the order number private; provide it only through an authenticated Microsoft or Forza support form.
Install the base game before the add-on
The expansion is not a standalone game. Install Forza Horizon 6 completely, launch it once, and allow any first-run updates to finish before installing separate DLC. This sequence is especially important when the Store displays the base game but refuses Premium content.
A Microsoft External Staff moderator gave the same direction in a June 2026 discussion about owned VIP DLC: ensure the base game is fully installed and launched, then install the DLC separately from Microsoft Store Library or Order history. Launching once matters because it confirms that the installation is associated with the expected Xbox profile and lets the game complete any account synchronization. It is not a substitute for ownership: a first launch cannot unlock an expansion that the account does not own.
Retry installation from the correct Windows app
Microsoft Store route
- Open Microsoft Store and select Library.
- Find Forza Horizon 6 or the named expansion.
- Select the download or install icon.
- Wait for the queue to begin; keep the Store open long enough to display a progress state.
If the item appears in order history, use the available install action there. Microsoft’s installation help page links to Store, Xbox app and console procedures. If several downloads are queued, pause unrelated items temporarily so you can tell whether the expansion itself starts.
Xbox app route on PC
If the Store button does nothing, open the Xbox app, sign in with the purchasing account, search for Forza Horizon 6, and check the game’s add-ons or library entry. Several users in a May 2026 Microsoft Q&A thread reported that starting the download through the Xbox app worked when the Store route failed. Other users installed the base game as a separate item and then installed Premium content separately. If the Xbox app asks you to choose an installation drive or location, use a drive with adequate free space and keep the base game and add-on on a supported location. Do not interpret a missing add-on tile as proof that the purchase failed until you have checked Library and order history in the Store.
Steam installation
Steam is an official PC storefront for FH6, but the game still requires Microsoft Gaming Services on PC. If the Steam installation reaches an error involving Gaming Services, follow the version and update instructions in the next section rather than assuming Steam is exempt. Ownership checks may involve both the Steam purchase and the linked Microsoft account, so record which account is signed in when the game first launches.

Update Gaming Services on PC
Forza Support lists Gaming Services version 37.114.10001.0 or later as the requirement for Forza Horizon 6 on PC, including the Steam version. An outdated service can prevent the game or its add-ons from being recognized even when the purchase is valid.
Update through Microsoft Store
- Open Microsoft Store.
- Select Downloads (or Library, depending on the current Store layout).
- Select Check for updates.
- Install the Gaming Services update, then restart Windows.
The official Forza Gaming Services guide explains how to check the installed version in Windows Settings. If the game reports “Invalid Gaming Services Detected”, compare the installed version with 37.114.10001.0 before attempting a reinstall.
Check the installed version in Windows Settings
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Search for Gaming Services.
- Open its advanced details and note the version number.
- Update it through Microsoft Store if it is below 37.114.10001.0.
Do not confuse this version requirement with an error-rate statistic: it is simply the minimum version specified by Forza Support. The requirement applies to both the Xbox app/Microsoft Store build and the Steam build, so changing storefronts does not remove it.
Refresh a stuck Microsoft Store installation
Use these PC-only steps when the expansion is owned and released, appears in your library, but the download is stuck or the Install button does nothing. Try them in order and stop when the installation begins.
Install pending Windows updates and restart
Open Settings > Windows Update, install pending updates, and restart even if Windows does not appear to require it. Microsoft’s Store guidance specifically identifies an incomplete restart after an update as a reason downloads may not work.
Reset the Store cache
Microsoft documents wsreset.exe for resetting the Microsoft Store app:
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type
wsreset.exeand press Enter. - Wait for the blank command window to close and Microsoft Store to reopen.
- Sign in again if necessary, return to Library, and retry the add-on.
This does not create an entitlement or release an unreleased expansion; it only refreshes Store state. If the command returns immediately or the Store still shows the wrong account, sign in again before trying another repair.

Gaming Services reinstall procedures can affect system packages. Follow the current official Forza instructions exactly instead of copying an unfamiliar script from a forum. Restart Windows afterward, update Gaming Services again, and then retry the Store or Xbox app installation. If the problem is only that an add-on is absent from the account, reinstalling Gaming Services will not correct the entitlement.

Xbox Series X|S versus PC
Console and PC symptoms can look similar, but the repair paths are different. On Xbox Series X|S, first confirm the expansion has released and that the signed-in profile owns it, then use the console’s Library or owned-games page to start the download. The Windows Store cache command, Windows app repair controls and Gaming Services version check do not apply to the console.
On PC, identify the storefront before following instructions. Microsoft Store and Xbox app installations use Microsoft account library and order-history checks. Reinstallation is a poor first response when the expansion is unreleased, the Store account does not own it, or the item is absent from order history. Reinstalling can consume bandwidth and time while leaving the actual entitlement unchanged. Establish release status and ownership first, then repair the Windows component that corresponds to the symptom.
Do not purchase a second copy as a diagnostic step. The Expansion Bundle and Premium Upgrade are relevant for establishing which content should be included, not as replacement hardware, software utilities or consumables. If the account already shows the entitlement, a new purchase can create a duplicate transaction without fixing the original license association.
Prepare an effective support request
Escalate instead of repeating resets when an owned, released expansion remains unavailable after the official library checks. Send the support team:
- Forza Horizon 6 edition and exact expansion name.
