Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →First find out whether FFmpeg is skipping an episode before it opens the file, reading it but placing it incorrectly in the sequence, or sending a complete sequence that YouTube later fails to play correctly. Those are different problems with different fixes. Keep FFmpeg’s full log visible, inspect the concat list and each file’s streams and duration, then check the live output only after the sequence plays correctly on your computer.
Start by locating where the episode disappears
The title alone does not identify a cause. The useful first question is whether FFmpeg opened every expected file. Run your existing command without suppressing its log output, and compare the input-opening messages with the episode order in your playlist. Note the first missing file, warning, or timestamp discontinuity.
- FFmpeg never reports opening an episode: investigate the playlist being passed to FFmpeg, its path entries, quoting, file spelling, and read permissions.
- FFmpeg opens every episode, but playback jumps, has gaps, or loses sync: check whether the files have compatible streams and whether their reported durations and timestamps are trustworthy.
- The local output contains the whole sequence, but the YouTube stream does not: investigate output stream selection, encoder configuration, network stability, and YouTube’s stream-health messages.
This is a diagnostic split, not a claim about which failure occurred on your system. To identify the specific cause, you need the command, playlist text, complete FFmpeg log, and probe output for affected files.
Check the concat playlist and file paths
If you use FFmpeg’s concat demuxer, the playlist is an input script: it tells FFmpeg which files to open and in what order; it does not convert incompatible media into compatible media. It should contain one file directive for each episode. Compare the literal entries with the intended sequence, including the spelling, directory, and capitalization of each path.

ffconcat version 1.0
file 'episode-01.mp3'
file 'episode-02.mp3'
file 'episode-03.mp3'
For the auto-detected ffconcat form, ffconcat version 1.0 must be the very first line, with no leading space or byte-order mark. Spaces and special characters in paths must be escaped or quoted according to FFmpeg’s concat syntax.
Do not add -safe 0 as a catch-all fix. It relaxes the concat demuxer’s path-acceptance rules; it will not repair a misspelling, an unreadable file, corrupt media, or incorrect duration metadata. Use the safest setting that accepts your actual paths, and review the full command before changing it.

Compare the episodes’ streams and durations
Use ffprobe on each file and compare the stream count, codec, time base, sample rate, channel layout, and reported duration. The concat demuxer expects the files to have matching streams, codecs, and time bases. A playlist that combines files with different stream layouts or encodings may not be suitable for stream-copy concatenation.
ffprobe -v error -show_streams -show_format episode-01.mp3
The demuxer also uses a file’s duration to determine where the next file begins. If duration metadata is wrong—for example, because a file is truncated—the next episode’s timestamps can be misplaced, producing a gap or other playback artifact. If one duration looks suspect, test that episode by itself and compare the reported length with a full decode or another reliable measurement.

The concat demuxer supports a per-file duration directive when you know the correct value. Do not guess: an inaccurate override can shift the timing problem rather than solve it. If only the final episode seems short, inspect the log and output duration; there is no single final-file workaround established for every playlist.
Choose the concat method that fits the files
| Workflow | Use it when | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Concat demuxer with stream copy | The input files have compatible streams, codecs, and time bases, and you want to retain their encoded audio. | Avoids re-encoding, but does not normalize differences between episodes. |
| Filter-based concat with re-encoding | The episodes differ in encoding or stream layout, or you need to normalize them into a consistent output. | Re-encodes the audio; choose output settings suitable for the intended stream. |
When the files may not be compatible, first create a local diagnostic output. This example re-encodes audio as AAC at 128 kbps and 44.1 kHz; it is a compatibility test, not a required setting for every YouTube stream.

ffmpeg -f concat -safe 0 -i episodes.ffconcat -c:a aac -b:a 128k -ar 44100 diagnostic.m4a
Here, -safe 0 is appropriate only if your actual paths require relaxed path acceptance; otherwise use the safer setting that works for your list. Replace the example filenames with your own correctly escaped entries. Play the generated file through the episode boundaries before changing the live command. If this output still omits an episode, return to the log and playlist checks rather than assuming YouTube caused the omission.
Make audio stream selection explicit when needed
If your command has multiple inputs or produces multiple streams, check which audio stream reaches the output. FFmpeg’s -map option lets you select output streams explicitly; without it, FFmpeg uses automatic stream selection rules. Do not copy a mapping value from another command: the correct input and stream index depends on your inputs and any filtergraph.

Check YouTube ingest after local playback is correct
Once the local output plays the complete sequence, inspect the actual live output and YouTube’s stream-health messages. For RTMP or RTMPS, YouTube lists AAC and MP3 as supported audio codecs. Its live encoder guidance recommends CBR and a 2-second keyframe frequency, and says not to exceed 4 seconds. For advanced stereo audio, it recommends a 44.1 kHz sample rate and 128 kbps.
These are outgoing-stream recommendations; they do not explain an episode missing from FFmpeg’s local concat output. Test with audio similar to the live programme and monitor stream health and audio quality during the event. YouTube recommends keeping upload bandwidth headroom, with 20% recommended. If the local file is complete but the live stream is not, review the selected audio stream, encoder output, connection stability, and YouTube’s reported status together.
Troubleshoot by what you observe
| Observation | First check | Next action |
|---|---|---|
| An episode is absent from FFmpeg’s input log | Playlist contents, path, quoting, spelling, and permissions | Correct the list or access problem, then rerun with visible logs. |
| Every file opens, but playback jumps or drifts | Stream compatibility and each file’s duration | Compare probe results; override a duration only when you have an accurate value. |
| Files have different codecs, stream layouts, or time bases | Whether stream copy is appropriate | Normalize or re-encode the files, or use a filter-based concat workflow. |
| The local output is complete, but YouTube playback is not | Audio mapping, live health, network, and encoder settings | Review -map, YouTube stream-health messages, upload headroom, and the published encoder recommendations. |
| Only the last episode appears shortened | Its duration and the output’s termination behavior | Inspect the complete log and output duration; do not assume a universal final-file fix. |
