If a video is skipped during an FFmpeg playlist rotation, first determine whether FFmpeg itself omits it or whether the jump appears only in YouTube playback. Then check the playlist format and order, confirm that every file has compatible streams, and inspect the duration and timestamps at the transition. There is no safe universal timestamp flag: the right fix depends on where the skip begins.
Find where the video disappears
Start by capturing the full FFmpeg command, the playlist or manifest, your FFmpeg version, and log lines around the transition. Use ffprobe on the file before the jump and the supposedly skipped file. Compare stream count, codecs, time bases, frame rates, start times, and durations.

- Which video gets skipped, and does FFmpeg’s output contain it?
- Does the skip happen at the same playlist transition every time?
- Is the missing segment absent from FFmpeg’s output, or does it appear there but not in YouTube playback?
These checks distinguish an input or timestamp problem from a downstream ingest or playback problem. Without the command, media metadata, and transition logs, a particular cause cannot be identified responsibly.

“Playlist” can mean a text file used by FFmpeg’s concat demuxer or an HLS .m3u8 manifest. They are different inputs; do not apply concat-demuxer assumptions to HLS. Check the command and the actual input file before changing options.

If it is a concat-demuxer script
- Verify that every entry is present, in the intended order, and points to a path that resolves.
- If FFmpeg is expected to detect the concat script automatically, its optional
ffconcat version 1.0header must be the exact first line. Do not put a byte-order mark, whitespace, or another line before it.
The FFmpeg concat demuxer documentation explains its script format and behavior.
Check that the files have compatible streams
The concat demuxer virtually joins packets and shifts timestamps so each file follows the previous one. It expects corresponding streams to match, including codecs and time bases. Compare the video and audio streams in the files around the skip; differences in stream layout or encoding properties can prevent a clean join.

- 【1080P HD High Quality】Capture resolution up to 1080p for video source and it is ideal for all HDMI devices such as PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, Wii U, DVDs, DSLR, Camera, Security Camera and set top box. Note: Video input supports 4K30/60Hz and 1080p120/144Hz. Does not support 4K120Hz/144Hz. Output supports up to 2K30Hz.
- 【Plug and Play】No driver or external power supply required, true PnP. Once plugged in, the device is identified automatically as a webcam. Detect input and adjust output automatically. Won't occupy CPU, optional audio capture. No freeze with correct setting.
- 【Compatible with Multiple Systems】suitable for Windows and Mac OS. High speed USB 3.0 technology and superior low latency technology makes it easier for you to transmit live streaming to Twitch, Youtube, Facebook, Twitter, OBS, Potplayer and VLC.
- 【HDMI LOOP-OUT】Based on the high-speed USB 3.0 technology, it can capture one single channel HD HDMI video signal. There is no delay when you are playing game live.
- 【Support Mic-in for Commentary】Rybozen capture card has microphone input and you can use it to add external commentary when playing a game. Please note: it only accepts 3.5mm TRS standard microphone headset.
If the files differ, make a consistent set of inputs before using the concat demuxer: normalize or transcode them to a common stream layout and compatible properties. This is a practical option, not the only possible workflow in every case. In a 2024 mailing-list discussion about a static playlist containing varied formats, sizes, and aspect ratios, Oliver Fromme recommended transcoding the files to the same properties before concatenating them. That advice is specific to the discussed case; it does not prove that mismatched media explains every skip. See the 2024 FFmpeg-user discussion and the formal concat demuxer documentation.

For concat inputs, FFmpeg uses each file’s duration to calculate the next file’s timestamps. The documentation warns that an incorrect duration—for example, one calculated from bitrate or affected by a truncated file—can cause artifacts. Check the reported duration against the media and inspect the final packet or frame timestamps of the file before the jump, then the first timestamps of the next file.

A concat script can include a duration directive to override a file’s stored duration. Use it only after establishing the correct duration; guessing can move the boundary rather than fix it. See FFmpeg’s explanation of concat durations.
Separate FFmpeg output from YouTube ingest
Record or inspect FFmpeg’s output around the transition where possible. If the intended clip is missing there, or the timestamps jump there, continue with the playlist, input compatibility, and duration checks. If FFmpeg output is continuous but YouTube playback jumps, review stream-health messages in YouTube Live Control Room and check the encoder output settings.

YouTube’s current live encoder guidance recommends CBR and a two-second keyframe interval, which should not exceed four seconds. For RTMP/RTMPS it lists H.264, H.265, or AV1 video and AAC or MP3 audio. These are downstream ingest checks, not remedies for a malformed concat list or an incorrect source duration. YouTube also recommends testing with representative audio and video movement and monitoring stream health during the event.

|---|---|
| The same entry is missing from FFmpeg output | Check playlist order and paths, then compare stream layouts and metadata for files at that point. |
| The jump occurs at a file boundary and timestamps have a gap or overlap | Compare the preceding file’s actual end time with its reported duration and the next file’s starting timestamps. |
| FFmpeg output contains the clip continuously, but YouTube playback skips or jumps | Check Live Control Room stream health and the YouTube encoder settings for codec, CBR, and keyframe interval. |
| The input is an HLS manifest rather than a concat script | Diagnose the HLS input and command specifically; concat-script rules such as the ffconcat header do not apply. |
