Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteTo fix gaps in an FFmpeg playlist, first check the media timeline at each file boundary. The concat demuxer advances the next file’s timestamps using the previous file’s duration, so incorrect duration metadata or audio and video streams that end at different times can create silence, a stall, or another artifact. Confirm that every file has compatible streams, codecs, and time bases; normalize or re-encode incompatible assets, then check YouTube’s ingest and network only if the encoded output is already continuous.
Find out whether the gap is in FFmpeg or YouTube delivery
- Listen to or watch the FFmpeg output locally, or inspect a recording of it, at the point where the gap occurs.
- If the same silence or visual stall is present locally, investigate file durations, stream endings, timestamps, and concat compatibility.
- If local output is continuous but the YouTube playback has a problem, check the Live Control Room preview, stream health, encoder settings, and network path.
These are separate failure layers: a healthy YouTube ingest does not prove the playlist timeline is gapless, and extra network bandwidth cannot repair a bad file boundary.

Check duration metadata and audio/video endpoints
The concat demuxer uses each file’s duration to calculate timestamps for the next file. FFmpeg warns: “The duration of each file is used to adjust the timestamps of the next file: if the duration is incorrect (because it was computed using the bit-rate or because the file is truncated, for example), it can cause artifacts.” See the FFmpeg concat demuxer documentation.

- Inspect each item’s container duration and the end time of its audio and video streams.
- Look for truncated files, duration metadata that differs from the actual media length, or audio and video streams that end at different times.
- If you know a file’s duration more accurately than the stored value, a concat script’s
durationdirective can override it. Use a reliable measurement; a guessed value can shift every later file and worsen the timeline. - If audio and video genuinely have different lengths, resolve that mismatch during media preparation instead of blindly forcing a duration.
Choose the right concatenation method
| Method | Use it when | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Concat demuxer | Files have the same streams, codecs, and time bases, and stream-copy style concatenation is suitable. | It relies on reported file durations to advance timestamps; incorrect durations or streams ending at different times can cause artifacts. FFmpeg documentation. |
| Concat filter | You need a re-encoding workflow, including to make inputs consistent as part of concatenation. | It requires filtering and encoding rather than relying on the demuxer’s timestamp stitching. FFmpeg FAQ. |
| Normalize before concatenating | Playlist files differ in stream layout, codec, or time base. | Adds a preparation or transcoding step; check the resulting audio and video boundaries. |
The concat demuxer expects the same streams, codecs, and time bases across its inputs. When those do not match, normalize the files or use a workflow that re-encodes. FFmpeg’s concatenation FAQ describes the concat filter as the option for cases where re-encoding is needed. There is no single command that fixes every gap: choose based on compatibility, duration accuracy, and whether re-encoding is acceptable.

- [XLR Mic Input] One XLR microphone input interface is set on the gaming audio mixer, which is great to up your audio quality with your XLR setup. The XLR mixer is a stepping stone to upgrade your live streaming. Audio mixer offered built-in 48V phantom power which opens up more choices for mics. Directly use it with your condenser microphone but do not solve added peripherals. (NOT available for USB mic)
- [Individual Channel Control] Gaming audio mixer for one mic recording with smooth volume slider fader take your streaming recording to a whole new level with full pleasure. Four independent channels set on the DJ mixer give audio volume of the MICROPHONE, LINE IN, HEADPHONE, and LINE OUT channels individual control. Configurable on the PC audio mixer instead of just operating on your game or streaming software.
- [Mute and Monitor] The front mute and monitor buttons but not at the back, make it easier to get the audio interface use. Ability to mute audio, the audio mixer for streaming prevents background noise from damaging your live broadcast. Real-time feedback between speaking and hearing will not distract your attention, which encourage you to speak more confidently. The sturdy-built control button allow you to operate freely and easily during live streaming.
- [Sound Effects] The computer sound mixer supports four pre-recorded customized button that can be recorded and activated at the press of button to post production. 6 kinds of voice changing modes change your output style. 12 auto tune changes the tone of your voice. The podcast mixer being able to add different and fun effects is a huge bonus for your streaming or game voice.
- [Controllable Vibrant RGB] RGB button on the audio mixer DJ meets different live streaming themes. Lights on the video mixer is vibrant but not harsh on your eyes. Flowing or frozen RGB color rotation in a decent pace presents a greatly strong impression as a "light show" to your audience. Even a streaming equipment accessory will not be dull looking when video production.
Check YouTube settings after the media timeline
If the local encoded output is continuous, compare your live encoder with YouTube’s current encoder recommendations for the codec, resolution, and frame rate you actually send.
- YouTube lists RTMP/RTMPS, constant bitrate (CBR), supported live video codecs, and AAC or MP3 audio.
- The recommended keyframe interval is two seconds and should not exceed four seconds.
- YouTube recommends 128 Kbps audio bitrate for stereo; use its current video bitrate table for your selected codec, resolution, and frame rate.
- Leave 20% upload bandwidth headroom, as advised in YouTube’s streaming tips.
- Test with representative audio and motion, inspect the Live Control Room preview before starting, and monitor stream health and audio/video quality during the broadcast.
Common fixes that do not address playlist boundaries
-stream_loop -1can repeat input, but it does not correct inaccurate per-file durations or incompatible streams.-redoes not fix timestamps or make files compatible for the concat demuxer.- Arbitrary timestamp flags are not a substitute for checking duration metadata and stream endpoints.
- Re-encoding can resolve format mismatches, but you still need to verify continuity at the resulting boundaries.
When an exact diagnosis needs more information
A case-specific fix depends on the FFmpeg version and build, full command, concat playlist, probe output for every file, and relevant FFmpeg log excerpt. Without those, it is not possible to confidently distinguish bad duration metadata from incompatible streams or time bases, different audio/video lengths, or a YouTube ingest problem.

- Ultra-low noise analog mixer for streaming, podcasting and recording
- Stereo USB audio interface to connect your computer or mobile device
Or let it run in the cloud
If your playlist is ready and you do not want a computer or home connection to stay on, StreamNeo keeps an uploaded-video YouTube stream running from the cloud. Upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It loops uploaded videos; it does not broadcast a camera feed. A sound media timeline still matters: cloud hosting does not repair incorrect timestamps or incompatible files.
